“Get little locals hangout, by boat, Jetski or car”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 24, 2014

Motts Creek Inn is a great little locals hangout whether getting there by boat, Jetski or car (been there on all 3 of these). Good cold beer, tasty bar foods and a friendly staff. Only draw back is the music is a little. Go for the Boat Bottoms, best potato skins I've had.

“Great view, decent food and drink”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2013

If this place wasn't located in a place with such a great view, I'd give it an average rating. But if the weather's nice (and you can bear the mosquitos or greenhead flies), sit outside and enjoy one of the best coastal views NJ has to offer. Friendly service, good beer selection, and pretty good food (good wings!!). A bit off the beaten path off of Rte. 9, but not really that far off the road. Make the effort, and enjoy the view and the drinks and food.

“Creek-side gem off the beaten path”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2013 via mobile

You know you're in for something a little different when you make turn off South New York road onto Mott's Creek Road. The right side of the road is a wildlife refuge and the left side might as well be for the first mile or so: except there are peculiar signs...and other things...in the trees...until you get to the fishing village at the end of the road. If you go at twilight you just might start expecting the Jersey Devil himself to spring out into the road in front of you.

This isn't a local restaurant; it is a local bar with a kitchen that literally overhangs Mott's Creek. It sits up high on pilings with a deck wrapping around the bar with a few tables outside - with great views of the marsh and the creek - and some very good sea food at the bar.

This isn't a fancy place; the bar is clean, the service is friendly, silverware is plastic picnic standard with styrofoam plates - but the shellfish served on them is delicious!

I had the mussels in white wine while Wifey had drunken clams: both were accompanied by fresh bread to dip in the flavorful and savory pot liquor broth - and we enjoyed it so much we asked for seconds on the bread to soak it all up.

Sonny Boy was hungry and ordered both the steamed clams and coconut shrimp, which he shared with us. The shrimp were OK (but nothing special) and served with fries, but the steamed cherry stone clams were fresh, local, and perfect.

Those brave enough to ignore the signs and take the path less travelled to this bar will be rewarded with a friendly atmosphere where Country Music plays on the radio and there are 10 beers on tap - including Angry Orchard Cider and ShockTop (Belgian Wheat) to accompany their sea food treats.

You could mistake this place for a dive if you judge by the fishing shacks nearby; but it's just a nice laid-back place with good bar food, a nice selection of brews on tap, a view that's easy on the eyes overlooking the creek, and a friendly barkeep.
It has the character and atmosphere of a good local bar where the boatmen - the guys who work them - go to grab a brew.

One word of caution: the kitchen closed by 8pm on the Wednesday night we were there - so don't be late if you want to eat.

“Great Place for Lunch”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013

Stopped by with a couple friends and had lunch and a good time. Sat outside on the deck and soaked up the sun. MCI is a great place.

“Waterside dining”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2013

Nice people. very friendly. One of few local places with outdoor dining, especially waterfront. Go more for the atmosphere, although the food is generally quite good. Great for groups but CROWDED, so prepare for a wait.
