If you are visiting Lismore and feel like a midday meal then ask anyone for directions to Foley’s Bar and Restaurant. This is situated on the corner of South Mall and Main Street. When you locate it, walk a few metres down the street where you will come upon another restaurant with a number of Good Food awards on display in the window. These awards are not given lightly so you will be assured of a good meal there. A word of warning though --- do not go there on a Monday, it’s their rest day.
When my wife, daughter and I visited Lismore it was unfortunately on a Monday, so we decided to eat in Foley’s. I love Irish Stew and, seeing it on the menu board, I naturally chose it. The dish which was put on the table in front of me was nothing like any Irish Stew that I had ever eaten before. It was different, but looked nice, so I tucked in. I soon realized that a somewhat excessive amount of salt was used in the cooking, but as I never like to send food back and against the advice of my companions, I persevered. It soon became apparent to me that I could go no further and for only the third time in my 76 years I had to send my meal back. I informed the waitress of the reason for not finishing the course and, as an apology did not appear to be forthcoming, we suggested, when paying, that there should be a discount on my dish. The waitress checked with her superior but was told that, as I had eaten half of it (this I dispute), there could be no reduction. We reluctantly paid up but informed the waitress that we would not be returning.
In addition to the above, when I requested butter for the “bread” which came with the meal I was given a small dish and it was obvious from the knife tracks on the butter that it had been previously used on another table.

We are a small team and our policy is to provide a warm welcome to our customers with friendly and good local quality food.I am sorry that your complaint regarding your meal was not to your satisfaction. At the time of your visit we were in the process of employing two new chefs to join or team in order to add to our high standards.However please understand there is a learning curve and that we do our utmost to maintain the high sandards you have been accustomed to in the past
