Hanora's Cottage was the first stop on a two week trip thru Ireland. My husband and I were very tired from the flight and just wanted to relax. The cottage is set on a country lane surrounded by gorgeous flowers and vegetation. You can hear the river as soon as you step out of the car. It calms me now just to think about it! We stayed in room 10 for two nights. The room was large and had a nice sitting area and view of the garden. The bathroom is also large, very clean and has a huge jacuzzi tub and a towel warming rack. Mary is an amazing hostess. Her son and daughter-in-law are professional chefs. Breakfast is outstanding and by all means stay for dinner!! This was my favorite stop by far!

Hanora's Cottage, while in the fading light it seemed a good way out of Ballymacarbry, turned out to be a real gem. Beautifully situated up the unspoilt Nire Valley and only 2kms from the start of great walks on the Comeragh and Monavullagh mountains, the hotel/restaurant is a delightful mixture of old fashioned comfort with modern facilities. Mary Wall and family run a very informal but highly professional establishment and offer the warmest of Irish welcomes.
The breakfast was outstanding in its range of choice and quality of cooking and presentation. We were only sorrow that we could only stay one night and, arriving on a Sunday, missed out on the well recommended dinner in the delightful dining room. We will definitely try to return and have recommended Hanora's Cottage to a number of friends especially as it is open for most of the year.

Room Tip: Room 10 at end of house over the dining room had great views of the bridge over the Nire and gardens...

Hi RMNThame, thank you for coming to stay with us recently, and thank you for your nice words. Unfortunatly you were'nt able to have dinner with us as we try to take 1 night a week off and Sunday is the night we take. Hopefully if you should ever get to come our way again, we will be able to have you dine with us, thanks again for your stay and all the very best,

I booked two nights at Hanora's Cottage because it seemed close enough, at 25-odd km from Dungarvan, for the start and finish of the Sean Kelly Tour of Waterford bike ride - and it seemed a pleasant enough place judging from the website to leave my wife for the day. It turned out to be a fortunate and magical choice.

The first impression of Hanora's Cottage is of the approach: turn off a regional road at Ballymacarbry, go 5km up a winding local road in the Nire Valley, turn off that again up a smaller road. You come around a bend and there, across a centuries-old stone bridge, alongside a 170-year-old stone church, right on the road, is the broad, welcoming front of the lodging.

Later, I discovered that when Mary Wall and her late public servant husband Seamus moved into the house originally built by his grandparents, nearly 50 years ago, it was little more than a one-bedroom cottage. Over the years, they added and renovated: going sideways, going up and eventually they had a guesthouse with more than a dozen rooms.

Inside, the layout is charmingly unstructured - and immensely cosy. Our upstairs bedroom overlooked the road and the hiss of the rushing brook was a pleasant background sound through the window we left ajar. The room was decorated in mustard tones, with white pointing and ceiling, and brocade curtains which matched the bed covers. The bed was luxuriously comfortable. The ensuite bathroom with spa bath and shower was spacious and well appointed; we hardly expected better.

We did not get the opportunity to eat at Hanora's - on the Saturday night we took the opportunity to eat at The Tannery in Dungarvan, reputedly one of Ireland's finest retaurants, and a decent meal it was, but Mary's son Eion Wall has a great reputation for the food he prepares here - Andrew Lloyd Webber wrote favourably of his visit to the restaurant in The Telegraph.

My experience of Irish BnB's is not wide, but this place was a real charmer. We went there because it was convenient to my sporting event. I would be happy to go back again just for the pleasure alone of staying there - and doing some of the magnificent walks up into the nature conservation area nearby.

We recently visited Hanoras cottage for the second time. The first time we visited was 3 years ago and unfortunately we had only booked in for 1 night so this time I made sure we booked for 2 nights. Everything about Hanoras cottage is excellent. The rooms are spacious and very clean. The living areas comfortable and welcoming. The food to die for. Dinner was fabulous, lovely menu, beautifully presented and tasted perfect. The breakfast ... I have honestly never seen a selection like it before anywhere, and I have stayed in a lot of places. The porridge is a must, the selection of fresh and poached fruits fabulous, all home baked breads, scones, muffins etc. You really have to see it to believe it BUT more importantly to taste it. The Wall family have to be congratulated for their dedication to their business, they are warm, friendly, helpful and are wonderful chefs. If you want a relaxing breaking, amid beautiful scenery with fantastic food this is a gem that you really should try out. I'm already looking forward to trip No. 3.

Stayed here as a couple for two nights and cannot speak highly enough of Mary Wall, Judith Hovenden and Ina McGrath's superb warmth and outstanding hospitality. Our two days were a joy from start to finish. Bedroom was large and beautifully appointed. Spacious sitting rooms and riverside deck provided nice spaces for relaxation. Dinner menu was well thought out and was gourmet home cooking and packed a punch flavour wise. Fish, meat, herbs and vegetables, and cheeses are sourced locally. We devoured each morsel and looked forward to each meal. The wine list was small and well chosen and well priced. It was not surprising to see that Hanora's Cottage had won best breakfast in Munster and in Ireland awards. The smell of homebaking set the scene for the best breakfast we have had in any hotel. Fresh and poached fruits, granola, cereals and porridge, cheeses, charcuterie, full Irish, homemade breads and muffins, fresh juices, yogurts, fresh fish, homemade jams and good tea and coffee. Tin foil was provided on the buffet table and guests were invited to help themselves to food for a snack or picnic during the day. This represented the generous hospitality of the Walls. We will definitely return and highly recommend a stay here. You will be wowed!

We just spent 1 night in Hanora's Cottage. We have stayed here many times before and it just gets better and better. Dinner and Breakfast were so beautifully cooked and served. What a treat to be so well looked after by Eoin, Judith and Mary, serving local produce in a fantastic setting.
I look forward to our next visit
