“An excellent place to stay and relax”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 7, 2010

We, 2 adults + 1 child 7 years, stayed at the Shamrock Arms for two nights while travelling from Joburg to Kruger. A place to stay for more than two nights. We thank the owners - Terry & Cheryl - for the big hospitality and the great home-made food. We also recommend this area for walking in the nature, bicycle tours and rock climbing.

We stayed at the Shamrock Arms one night while traveling form Joburg to Kruger. It was a delight! Perfect location, lovely grounds and rooms. The owners--Terry & Cheryl--were the perfect hosts. Even though we got there quite late, they heated us up some food and shared a drink with us. Breakfast was AWESOME!!! The trout was delicious. I can't imagine a nicer get away. So much to do in the area too, next time we would like to stay longer.

In this day and age of accomodation-by-numbers and scant attention to guest needs it is indeed a pleasure to come across a guesthouse that combines old world charm, fine home cooking, courtesy and genuine warmth and friendliness. The Shamrock Arms in Watervalboven is such a place. Owners Terry and Cheryl along with assistant Jaco made our weekend one of the most pleasureable stays that i can remember. The rooms are comfortable, secure and cosy, the pub well stocked, the breakfasts sumptious. Terry knows the area well and was a great companion on a hike in the surrounding hills. We look forward to our next visit to this gem of a guesthouse.

We stayed at Shamrock Arms to break up a long drive to Dullstrom from Nelspruit airport via Jane Goodhalls Chimp Eden. The hosts and their B&B manager were very friendly, welcoming us as soon as we arrived and suggested somewhere to eat (actually The Stone Circle Bistro is the only place to eat in town but the burgers were good). The room was a good size for 2 people, clean and tidy with a few historical photos of the town hanging on the wall. The main breakfast/dinning area was fairly nicely decorated in a very old fashioned victorian style with a number of old dolls sitting around. The bar had a few irish nic-nacks to go with the irish name but nothing too offensive. The breakfast was excellent with some local trout as a nice alternatively to a full english breakfast.

I'd happily stay again if I was breaking a long journey up.

Having chosen this as a halfway stop on our fly-drive from Jo’burg to Kruger we didn’t really know what to expect. On our arrival we were met by the owner Terry and made to feel very welcome. We sat and watched the Rugby World Cup ¼ final England v Australia with Terry and some of the very friendly regulars in the bar. Our room was large, comfortable and very clean fitted out with Sat TV and a safe. We experienced some very tasty home cooked food and had a very good night. A more than adequate breakfast was included making this night an excellent value for money stop. If you need a halfway stop to Kruger from Jo’burg or just want to spend a couple of nights away relaxing we would recommend the Shamrock Arms.
