“Excellent food, amazing service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2013 via mobile

One of the best food experiences in Sicily. The antipasti was spectacular and the seafood pasta as well.

The staff were very kind and The service very efficient. Great place that is worth to visit!

“A World-Class Restaurant in Caltagirone!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 16, 2012

We read the reviews about Il Locandiere on TripAdvisor and eagerly looked forward to eating there. We were not disappointed. We had reservations and were immediately seated at a table of our choice that was impeccably set and attended to by a nice young man named Fabrizio. We ordered an excellent local Caltagirone white wine and later a bottle of Sicilian Grillo – also excellent. Fabrizio, who kept a close-eye on us and made sure every detail was tended to immediately.

Fabrizio suggested an antipasto tasting menu consisting of a whole plate of mussels, rolled prosciuto with pine nuts and Italian parsley, sliced tangerines with pine nuts and Italian parsley, and various shellfish (lobster, crab, and shrimp). My wife ordered ricotta cheese ravioli, and I had grilled fish. For dessert, we had a wonderful cannoli topped with a hot-fig sauce that looked like whipped cream.

We loved every bite of every course. The food was equal to the best that we had ever had, anywhere, including at the Michelin-starred restaurants to which we’d been in Sicily. Our dinner totaled 90,00€.

“Small, wonderful food of the highest quality, careful service, great seafood and wines.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 24, 2012

This was a small restaurant with the most wonderful and memorable seafood and service. The seafood sausage looked so amazing that four of us had to have some, then there was a bruschetta so carefully made with fresh herbs and finely cut peppers, olive oil-brushed bread and that was just the beginning. The pasta dishes were excellent, each created with great skill and care and the taste...memorable - and that was just two courses. The wines were excellent, so reasonably priced and the red decanted with love, 'don't even try it for 2 minutes'; then it was poured with the care found in Michelin star restaurants and we were the only four there. This is a great find; a gourmet experience and a wonderful memory. Maybe we should have kept it a secret, but they deserve to be known.

“World class - an exclusive food experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2012

The 2 young brothers who run this restaurant, Mario & Fabrizio, have such an incredible passion and respect of food and Sicilian wine that we knew we were in for a great experience. It was the only restaurant recommended by the owner of our B&B who said it would be an unforgettable experience. And it was. We've been fortunate enough to have eaten in some incredible restaurants around the world and this experience was right up there- probably in my top 5! We went with their recommendations, and from the menu which is full of artworks, the vintage local bottle of red(€20 and he offered us another excellent choice for only €14), through to the selection of both hot and cold appetisers, it was all just mouth watering. There were at least 6 tasters with the most amazing olive oil. The mains were both fish, one typical Sicilian and one with a lemon overtone, and both were simply delicious. We were totally full but couldn't resist the deconstructed ricotta cannoli for dessert, which they followed with complimentary dessert wine. Including wine this incredible world class experience only set us back €80, which elsewhere in the world could be up to $200! It is worth a detour to this town alone just for this meal/food experience. These boys really know what they are doing. I can't recommend it highly enough. Wendy (Australia)

“Great food and service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2012

Our group of 8 ate here and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
The food was fresh and delicious, 5 ate fish and 3 ate vegetarian dishes, and all were recommended.
The staff were very knowledgeable about the menu and were able to explain the menu and specials in English. We were advised to have a more expensive menu that the one we chose, but politely declined and we weren't pressured.
The restaurant is well place near the centre and is clean and well maintained.
