We read the reviews about Il Locandiere on TripAdvisor and eagerly looked forward to eating there. We were not disappointed. We had reservations and were immediately seated at a table of our choice that was impeccably set and attended to by a nice young man named Fabrizio. We ordered an excellent local Caltagirone white wine and later a bottle of Sicilian Grillo – also excellent. Fabrizio, who kept a close-eye on us and made sure every detail was tended to immediately.
Fabrizio suggested an antipasto tasting menu consisting of a whole plate of mussels, rolled prosciuto with pine nuts and Italian parsley, sliced tangerines with pine nuts and Italian parsley, and various shellfish (lobster, crab, and shrimp). My wife ordered ricotta cheese ravioli, and I had grilled fish. For dessert, we had a wonderful cannoli topped with a hot-fig sauce that looked like whipped cream.
We loved every bite of every course. The food was equal to the best that we had ever had, anywhere, including at the Michelin-starred restaurants to which we’d been in Sicily. Our dinner totaled 90,00€.
