some 40 people (age group 12 to67 years) visited last 4.1.14. (it took 3 h 30 min from resort to paithalmala and back for us- started at 2pm and returned to base at 5.30pm). it was indeed very exciting. few points need to be highlighted. (1) tourist buses with more than 30 - 40 seating capacity can not go, especially if it is old vehicle. (2) people above 55 years who are having health problems, knee problems, should take rest intermittently while climbing. and such visitors do carry with them a strong 5 feet stick both while climbing up and down for body weight support. (resort people usually assist in organising such sticks) (3) to take care of such people, at least 3 or 4 young men should follow them to extend any support, there may be huge tress fallen across the narrow trekking path. (4) unlike in sabari mala, etc. there are no medical aid, stretcher facility to carry incapacitated trekkers. (5) wearing knee caps, patties around calf muscles, would be ideal for aged persons. (6) as usual, a first aid kit and some common tablets or balms should be carried with the group. (7) we were served very tasty lunch at the resort - it has to be booked in advance. (8) government transport mini bus is also available. ROUTE we took is from Taliparamba - Manna - oduvally - naduvil - pulikkurumba - kudiyanmala - pottanplavu - paithalmala (42 km)
