“Paradise!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2013

It is kind of confusing that there is one name but three accommodation facilities.
We stayed at "Anis Cottage" with Kurien and Anis and we highly recommend it to everyone! When we arrived (it is quite hard to find, make sure you get the phone number of Kurien when you call the tourist desk in Kochi) the other guests greeted us with the words "welcome to paradise"! For 2500 Rs. we had the best Indian food ever (and so much!!), a beautiful beach nearby (at night we could hear the ocean, it is very close) and lovely people around us who cared for us and made sure we did not miss the Theyyam ritual. Don't miss this, it is such a wonderful place! :)

I have been staying in Costa Malabari Guest house in Kannur for many years. First time one week, year after 2 weeks, then a month, and I will carry on and on.
I just want to say thanks to Anni and Kurin the owner of the house. So wonderful, so kind and helpful. Anni is so popular for her cooking, but she is shine and when you tell her she is the best cook in the world she smiles at you. Her marvellous and great smile!
Kurin her husband gives you all the information you need, at any time he is there to help you. His suggestion about the Theyam, the ritual dance,is perfect. He knows where you have to go, he knows all details about your journey, he changes money, he calls you a tazi or tuk tuk he is just perfect.
Kurin and Anni two great friends, they will be always so special, and arriving in Costa Malabari is just HOME!!!
In Costa Malabari you meet all kind of interesting people, every lunch dinner breakfast was a joy, all together to share experiences, and Annie is there near you, giving food, delicious food and love.
I can carry on for ever but once more just
THANK YOU

Perched on a cliff-top above a small cove, this guest house is the stuff of dream getaway holidays. It is certainly not a luxurious experience. Rooms are large if basic, cooled by a sea-breeze and fans. Showers are best taken by the bucket method, and the power supply is occasionally spotty.
Access to the beach is via a ladder-like stairway. The cove itself is quite small and the beach is sometimes inaccessible because of the high tide.
Kurien's hospitality is legendary, and rightly so. He is a charming and helpful host who will help guests experience the fascinating Theyyam rituals held at small family temples at any hour of the night or early morning.
The food here is plentiful and the cooking extraordinarily good. Veg and non-veg options are available.
This stay will be a distinct highlight of our India trip.

We spent 3 nights with Kurien and his family and staff. Kurien certainly is a cheerful man with excellent English who will make sure you can experience the amazing theyyam rituale. The beach there is close, empty and calm, and the small adjunct village friendly. Rooms are clean and basic and you can use the internet free of charge (there is a computer). We had a great time there. We wished the food would have been spicier but I guess its our fault for not saying anything. Even though we had a relaxing and happy time there, we did find our stay fairly costly.

I had read about Costa Malabari in a guidebook but warmly recommend it for anybody looking for a homely stay away from the hassle of moving around South India. I loved the simple house of Costa Malabari 1, 5 minutes away from the beach is a nice walk, the area has nice pathways amid prim houses and lush vegetation, and just reading on the terrace or enjoying the communal food every lunch and dinner absolutely fulfilled my expectations.

Room Tip: Rooms are not the selling point - they do the job, the whole house is very simple but has all you ne...

We stayed at Costa Malabari 2, you have a secluded bay right on your door step and at night you fall asleep to the sound of the waves lapping at the shore. Most of the time the beach is deserted and the perfect place to peacefully enjoy some sun and sea. The Keralan food here is delicious! We especially enjoyed the lassis with lunch and the fresh fish served with dinner, there was a real variety of dishes and fresh fruit juice served with omelets on great brown bread for breakfast! The rooms are spotless with unique indian furnishings. You have a shady terrace to sit out on. The owner is great at organizing trips to Theyyam and we used the same Auto driver to go and see the weaving co-operative, beedie factory and fort. We really enjoyed our stay here, thanks so much

We stayed two nights in Costa Malabari 2 (there are three). Our first floor room had a window facing the ocean which is very close so we could hear it when lying in bed. Huge simple room with great food. The building is on a small cove with a few other buildings. You get to the cove down some steps and we had it to ourselves most of the time for swimming and hanging out. You can walk round to longer beaches if you want. Kurian the manager organised a trip to a Theyyam ritual for us. It was to bless someone's house and was a fantastically powerful experience. This place is very hard to find, no signage - so you need to Kurian to guide you from the temple on his motorbike or get them to arrange a pick up. They ask for payment in advance by cash transfer which incurred a charge for us increasing the price by 50%.

Room Tip: There are two rooms on the ground floor with a shared verandah, both face out onto the garden/ocean...
