“nice family hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013

We made a last minute trip and found the Fletcher hotel family friendly. From offering rental bikes with child seats to coloring placemats in the restaurant. The only thing is we were two adults and two children, aged 5 & 6 and we had to take 2 rooms but were given rooms with a connecting door. Breakfast was included and was enough for us. You could also order a packed lunch to go if you were cycling and wanted to picnic.

Spacious and clean room, large beds, nice bath room (although bath towels are to small or to limited by 2 pieces), easy wifi, large choice in television chains, large and free parking.
A detail: no egg cups available for breakfast. Keep a perfect soft boiled egg in one hand and put salt and pepper both from a mill with the other hand: just try it ...

It has been a few weeks since we had a 200 euro lunch (for four) at the hotel's empty restaurant and it still rankles. We had soup, salad, apple tart and a vastly overpriced bottle of wine Pouilly-Fume that arrived at our table uncorked. Nothing remarkable about the servings except that they were miniscule... 13 euros for a few leaves. Somehow for the price one expects the table to have a cloth on it lunch service or not, and a cloth napkin not a paper napkin. (At least remarked our guest, the cutlery [only a knife and fork] isn't plastic!) But it was the wine that irritated me most, 50 euros for a bottle without the courtesy of slicing off the protective wrapper and uncorking it at the table. Had I been the host and not the guest I would said something. The other two guests also considered serving the bottle already opened to be incorrect. Okay, so I didn't say anything at the time but I have now. We visit this area often but will never patronise this same restaurant. It has lost four customers at least.

What was good? The parking was free and I could walk the dog on the deserted December grounds, a luxury in over-populated Netherlands. Outside the tennis court, my pooch found two newish tennis balls in the undergrowth making for one happy dog who otherwise had waited patiently in the car.

The Familiehotel is quitly located, just outside Groningen. The rooms are nice, a bit standard but all equipment is there. Friendly welcome, adequate check out. Really worth the money, taking into account the wellness facilities as well.

We have been several times in this very nice hotel. Everything is right / o.k./ good: the room, the bed, the bathroom, breakfast, diner, the swimming pool, fitness facilities, the possibility to hire a bike or a scooter. Very friendly staff, dedicated, strong customer focus, well motivated, good customer treatment. With a lot of pleasure w will come back to this very good hotel.

Close to the capitals of both the province of Drenthe and the province of Groningen, the hotel is a good location for business trips to either of the cities. It is also the perfect location for bike trips and walks in the nature reserves in the area. Bike and scooters for rent at the hotel. Bird watching at the nearby Friese veen in a large reserve with hiking trails and few visitors is a wonderful experience. Service at the hotel excellent. Food good. I didn't have a chance to use the pool or the fitness. Hope to be back to try them out! Plan to visit other Fletcher hotels in the country.

This hotel is located on the outskirts of Groningen and proved to be an excellent base for day trips around the Groningen/Drenthe areas in the north of the Netherlands. It's comfortable without being pretentious and quiet. The staff was very friendly and helpful. No problems with the rooms or with breakfast. Overall, a very good experience.
