“Great for families”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2013

Within an hour of Santander this is a great place to stop over before or after your crossing, especially if you have children. Pechon is a small, unspoilt resort with only a handful of places to stay but some great beaches. Probably the best one is just a 10 minute walk down the lane at the side of the hotel (but if you have pushchair, parasol etc there is a car park down there). It's stunning to look at and has beautiful sand, shallow waters and lots of rock pools. Pechon has a few restaurants and a really good one is just on the corner opposite the hotel as is a children's playground. The hotel itself is quite traditional but attractive and well maintained and has a nice relaxed feel to it. There are seating areas outside as well as a comfortable lounge. We arrived on a Saturday afternoon without prior reservation and got the last room and may explain why it was so disappointing. It was on the top floor, in the eaves and so both bedroom and bathroom had a sloping ceiling which is a challenge when you're over 6 feet! But that was fine really for one night. However, the beds were metal framed and moved around every time we got in or out, almost tipping over at one point. We think the adjoining room had similar as we heard theirs scraping the floor too. The mattress protector was plastic coated so that too made a noise when you turned over. In the evening we had showers and the water pressure was fine. In the morning there was literally no water from either washbasin or shower. The receptionist acted surprised but I don't believe this was an isolated case. She told me to wait a few minutes but when there was still no water 10 minutes later, she let us use the shower in a single room on a lower floor. I realise this paints an unattractive picture but if you can ensure a better room, this hotel is definitely worth considering for the reasons described above. Very reasonable for B&B though breakfast was the usual bread, cheese, ham and pastries.

Room Tip: Avoid top floor. Rooms with balconies on front facing road, rooms on back have view of sea but no ba...

3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2012

We spent three nights here whilst we explored the Cantabrian mountains and coast.
This hotel didn't impress its personality on you; the rooms were OK, the breakfasts acceptable, and there were contrasts in the staff - the men surly but the female staff helpful and obliging.
In detail the bedroom was badly laid out with narrow gaps between the bed end and wall, and the bathroom was oddly laid out with a bath no longer than a big basin requiring a contortionist to use it and an over bath shower that soaked the floor because there was no full curtain. You could also hear much of what was going on in adjacent rooms. Although the rooms were serviced each day we had to ask for further supplies of soap/shampoo as they were not replenished.
The breakfasts were advertised as using the best of local produce but were essentially typical euro- pap.
This hotel, set in a pleasant location would serve well as a base for exploring locally, but is nothing special and the 'family' owners were conspicuous by their absence.

Room Tip: Rooms with balconies and which face the sea are best

Clean, comfortable room with lovely views. Breakfast ok - lukewarm coffee. One English speaking lady on reception so practice your Spanish when she isn't there.

Room Tip: Very large sheep dog at rear barks a lot at night!
