“Most welcoming, friendly English speaking, great location with authentic accommodation and stunning views!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 10, 2013

We arrived after dark, not too sure where we were and stumbled upon Dorze Lodge. We were welcomed by Tsehai the owner who spoke impeccable English. There were 5 of us and they only had one twin room available but in no time they had kindly gone out of their way to prepare another room so we were able to have a very comfortable nights sleep. Despite being busy we had a delicious meal prepared at the lodge. The sunrise over the lake the following morning was stunning, we were then taken on a tour by a lovely guide to the local village. The tour was very informative. We visited a charming Dorze dwelling and were shown how the local ensete dish was made from scratch. The women showed us their hand spinning which is then taken and woven by the men in the traditional way, we were able to by some lovely hand woven, pure cotton shawls. If we had more time we would have happily stayed for days!

Tsehai is a recommend guide, he has great knowledge ( from shopping to sight seeing ) He joined us in Arba Minch the following day and was very helpful, he went out of his way and came along to the national park with us.

All in all it was a fantastic couple of days and our favourite place to stay in all of Ethiopia!

Dorze lodge is unique in that it really tries to associate tourism with local culture and help towards the comunnity where it is located. The huts are pretty and rather comfortable but with outside toilets. The views are worth the trip up there even if you are not coming/going to chencha or Dorze. Sunrise there is breathtaking. The food is nice and the owner friendly and helpfull. Service and cleaness is like in many other places in Etiopia, but they try. I have been there a few times and it is always nice, but apparently the restaurant has just burned in Jan 2013 (although this time I was not ehre myself). I am sure they have already a solution for the food, but better write to make sure beforehand.

While studying abroad in Ethiopia we spent two nights staying at the Dorze Lodge in early June 2012. It is gorgeous with stunning views of both lakes. The community is very involved in the lodge and the owner, whom we nicknamed Sunshine, is active in preserving and assisting the Dorze community. A highlight of the trip was riding horses into the community, we spent time with the local children and spoke with tons of people in the community.

Room Tip: Any hut is a wonderful, must have experience

Returned to Ethiopia for a holiday and made sure that I visited Dorze Lodge. It is still a beautiful place with great views of the two lakes. I was pleased to see that it is still a community based project and the local communities are benefitting from their involvement with the lodge. I enjoyed visiting the local villages and joining in with the local dancing in the evening around the camp fire.Tsehai is very welcoming and speaks excellent english. Next time I go to Ethiopia, I am planning to go trekking with the local guides. Visit the website to see more www.dorzelodge.com.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 26, 2012

We spent three nights at the Dorze Lodge in April 2012, with our 2 year old daughter.

The owner, Tsehai, met us from our flight at Arba Minch airport and as it was a Sunday afternoon (no buses), found a minibus to take us and another guest up to the lodge (about an hour's drive).

We originally planned to stay for one night but ended up staying for three. The location was amazing - perched high on top of a mountain overlooking two lakes, with other mountains in the distance. We were fortunate to have clear weather during our stay and even more fortunate to be able to watch far-off thunderstorms from the safety of our huts.

The acoomodation was basic but as we expected - the huts each have 2 very comfortable and warm beds. There is a toilet, shower and running water (all of which has to be carried up the mountain). There is a larger hut perched even higher up, which serves as the restaurant. The food was fantastic and each meal consisted of a number of options - injera, plenty of sauces, pasta, rice, bread and lots of very tasty vegetable dishes. Eggs, bread, jams and fruit for breakfast. Bottled water is available to buy.

Everyone working at the lodge was extremely helpful. We took a walk to the local village (we decided to go without a guide) and had a lovely time with the local children, who were enthralled by our 2 year old - she made a lot of friends that day.

When it was time to leave one of the guides who was headed down to Arba Minch too carried out bags to the main road and accompanied us on the bus down the mountain - then installed us in the shade of a local hotel garden to have lunch before our flight back to Addis.

All in all we had a lovely trip to Dorze lodge and would thoroughly recommend it to anyone. Teshai is extremely helpful and is rightly proud of his wonderful lodge.

I travelled in september 2011 to the Dorze Lodge. It;s just amazing. It is still in a developing phase but open for business. Don't miss it.
The view just takes your breath away, the owner Tsehai is a great guy who speaks perfectly english.
By staying there you are also helping out the local community of the dorze people.
I was there during Meskel celebration and there was some kind of festival there. It was awesome!
Watch out: there are 2 dorze lodges, but this one is about the one from Tsehai Bogale. If you don't see the most beautifull view you ever saw, then you are in the wrong one!
This one is about 1km before the Dorze Lodge on the right side of the road. I attached a picture of the sign.
