“Not enough time”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2013

Decent water taxi, but the timing between drop off and pick up did not really leave enough time to hike the coastal track, eat lunch, and enjoy the sights. Trip 6, walking from Bark Bay to Anchorage barely allowed enough time at a fast pace, with no time to see Cleopatra's pool which we had wanted to visit. Rescheduling the pick up time 30 to 60 minutes later would have really improved our day.

“easy and fun way to see Abel Tasman”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2013 via mobile

went on kayaking and anchorage bay cruise. Shannon our guide was lovely and gave excellent direction for our group towards split rock and underwater caves. after we had lunch which was ok but nothing spectacular for the price, would rather try the overpriced cafe across the steet, the cruise to anchorage bay dropped us off on a beach we went hiking, gorgeous views, we only took an hour to hike and caught an earlier boat back, you could stay and camp overnight or hike all day depending on your disposition but def a great option for day trippers

“An easy way to see this spectacular park”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 3, 2013

I only had a few days in Nelson, and only one day free, so I decided to book a single day trip into Abel Tasman to see some of the coast, and do a short hike. My booking included bus transfers to and from my hotel, a great packed lunch (from a local bakery I'm guessing, and enough to feed me twice) and boat transfers to and from the park, all at a reasonable price.
I was told in advance I'd be on 'the small boat', which really wasn't a problem. The crew were friendly (and entertaining), and very relaxed. The park is a stunning place, beautiful beaches and lush forests surround you. 4 of us were dropped at Tonga Beach to take a leisurely walk to Medlands where we would be picked up. The walk took about 1.5 of the 4 hours allocated, so I used the remaining time to eat lunch, explore some of the nearby beaches and do a little more walking. The boat re-appeared on time, and back to Nelson I went, wishing I had more time to spend in Abel Tasman.
It's a great day tour if you don't have more time to spend in the park.

“Stunning. Seal pups a highlight.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 8, 2013

We sea kayaked on 28th July and we were fortunate enough to be the only two people in the "group" and had the benefit of calm seas and clear skies. Our Dutch guide was a fantastic character. He was also very patient and taught us first timers very effectively. He was also very conscious about nature and the environment we were in and made sure we stayed an appropriate distance from the seals on the rock - a good sign of a good operator.

The scenery was stunning and the small private beach we stopped at for lunch (we brought our own) was beautiful. This marked the start of the best highlight - kayaking into a small shallow crystal clear estuary where a number of seal pups were frolicking about and then proceeded to race us along while splashing us as they jumped about playfully.

Couldn't have had better luck really. Although one word of warning - cover up or use copious amounts of insect repellent as my legs were decimated by sandflies! Was worth it though!

Thank you for your thoughtful review and for noting how our Guides respect the privilege of our Marine Mammal Watching Permit. As you discovered, seals can choose to interact with us and it’s great fun when they do.

“We expected better for the price paid”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2013

We booked via an agent in Nelson. We paid close to $100 to be transported to Abel Tasman, dropped at Medlands Bay and picked up from Anchorage before being transported back to Nelson. We arrived and expected to be loaded onto vista a boat with 360 degree views from the top, but were instead loaded onto little boat. We found this very disappointing as we were unable to move around and get a good view of the surroundings. We were dropped off and completed out 10km walk in allocated time. The boat arrived at the beach and as all walkers were already there we left 30 minutes early, meaning we did not have time to fully explore the beach. This then had a knock on effect meaning we had over an hour to wait for the coach to take us back to Nelson and nowhere to wait. For the price we paid we expected much better service.

We agree it is disappointing that our agent in Nelson did not inform you that our larger Vista Cruise boat is undergoing maintenance. We are operating alternate smaller faster vessels so guests can still get out to enjoy the National Park at one of the best times of year.

Running a smaller faster vessel reduces travelling times. With the shorter daylight hours and cooler evenings if guests are ready to leave the beach after the allocated time ashore, we have let our Skipper excise their judgment and return earlier than scheduled, obviously he did not get the feeling of your group right, we apologise.

Kaiteriteri Beach is a very nice place to spend some time It is the South Island's premier beach holiday destination complete with shop, cafe, short walks and of course a great beach.
