“Lovely stay and dinner”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 29, 2014

Stayed here for 1 night DB&B for our Wedding Anniversary. The room was lovely totally in keeping with the period of the house, sumptuous comfy bed and amenities. Dinner and service was divine as was breakfast. Would highly recommend for a food experience.

An excellent hotel and a very elegant building. Our room was spacious, quiet and well equipped.
Service was faultless and unobtrusive . We were on the second floor with lots of stairs to climb - not a problem for us but this could be an issue for some and was not mentioned when making the reservation.

We recently purchased a living social deal for afternoon tea.
The hotel has great views and stands proud in the market town of Malton. We seated in the conservatory which was very nice, however on our exit out of the hotel I saw that others were seated in a room near to the front of the hotel.Which in my opinion was a better room, I had a feeling this was reserved for people who had purchased afternoon tea without a voucher deal. The afternoon tea itself was nice but not outstanding, the lack of cakes was disappointing. That said., the scones with clotted cream was delicious. As usual with afternoon tea there wasn't enough sandwiches. The talbot is worth a visit but I feel afternoon tea needs to be a little more special .

We stayed at the Talbot in one of the suites for 2 nights on one of their special deals. It included a bottle of champagne dinner bed and breakfast. Every thing about the stay was exceptional.
The staff are really friendly and very helpful. We ordered tea in the room. It arrived in less than 5 minutes. The room was fantastic with a very comfy bed, a big bath, plenty of storage and a nice settee for relaxing. The public areas are very comfortable. There is a great conservatory area for afternoon tea.
Dinner was quite outstanding. All of the food was prepared to an exceptional standard. The portions are not big so a side of veg might be appropriate for the bigger appetite. We had clean plates every time.
Breakfast was really good - try the scrambled eggs with smoked salmon.
We will be going back.
It may sound a little expensive but it was worth every penny.

Room Tip: Go for a suite - it is well worth the little extra.

Booked to stay 1 night (27/7/14) in Norton Room for anniversary surprise for my husband who's a fan of James . Disappointing welcome, room appeared ok , clean and tidy although one of bathroom cupboard doors fell off a hinge when opening to get hair dryer. On returning after dinner found half bathroom lights didn't work , curtain hanging off when shut and traffic noise meant no sleep from 4.30am. Dinner , which we expected to be a highlight wasn't ! I'll never eat crab again , I should have have had the mackerel they brought in error. Thankfully husbands starter was good as was his steak. My main course was ok but we didn't get the side orders until after 5+minutes of waiting we asked where they were and after a further wait we're told they were just sorting them !!. Spoke to reception on leaving who said she'd tell the general manager and gave me his card requesting I also emailed him. Emailed general manager on 2/8/14 but as yet (24/814)haven't even had the courtesy of a reply.

We chose the hotel purely for the restaurant and were not disappointed.

A fantastic room with beautifully furnished bathroom with wonderful large and incredibly powerful shower.

For dinner we had the tasting menu which was excellent, wines were reasonably priced and staff were knowledgable and helpful.

Breakfast was very good - I recommend the bacon bap!
The only negative was the slow service in the dining room at breakfast - need some extra staff!
