“Great recommendations from tripadvisor I AGREE !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 12, 2013

Had read reviews before our visit and am glad to say we had a lovely lunch here. The scampi was lovely, what a nice change to have it freshly battered and not pre breadcrumbed. The batter was good, but I felt there was a bit too much on each piece. The dish was nicely presented. Hubby had chicken and mushroom risotto which was delicious. We shared Eton mess for pudding. Tea and coffee a very good quality all served by a friendly efficient staff. Washrooms very clean with good quality products.

“Very pleasant, traditional afternoon tea.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 12, 2013

Being friends with an afternoon tea afficianado we couldn't resist the offer of accompanying him and his wife to The Market Place on a voucher deal. We have experienced some of the "great" afternoon teas available in England (Ritz, Dorchester, Brown's etc) which now tend towards a modern art form of extravagant dainties rather than the traditional version as we remember. What a refreshing change, therefore, to be served what we call a "proper" afternoon tea in a relaxed ambience. A glass of champagne was delivered immediately we were seated and was quickly followed by a choice of several teas to suite everyone's tastes. The sandwiches(egg, cucumber, smoked salmon, ham and mustard) were delicious and the cakes and meringues reminded us of the good old fashioned baking which mother used to do but with a more professional finish. Delightful! With the sun shining and pleasant conversation with good friends I can think of few more pleasurable ways of whiling away a Saturday afternoon. The staff were friendly and attentive and of course the market town of Malton was charming in the sunshine. Highly recommended!

“Tea-riffic!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 11, 2013

We went on a Groupon deal for afternoon tea and found the whole experience delightful, from the welcoming glass of champagne to the last scone which had trouble finding a taker as we were all so full! The selection of sandwiches was varied and delicious, as were the home made cakes and scones, all washed down with a selection from a huge range of speciality teas, and served by a charming group of waitresses - a most enjoyable experience all round.

“The best Coronation Chicken sandwich ever....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 1, 2013

Fell on here quite by accident, the Coronation Chicken in ciabatta bun was to die for and it came with a side salad and a mini frying basket of hand cut chips. I struggled to finish my scones with jam & clotted cream but it was too good to leave.
Excellent value with a warm friendly waitress.
Northern hospitality at its best.
I can see why they're rated No 1 on Tripadvisor of eateries in Malton.

“Afternoon Tea - to go for!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 30, 2013

This was our first visit and will go again. The champagne afternoon tea was excellent with a large selection of sandwiches, scones and cakes. Make sure you do not have any lunch before you go. We had soup for lunch, went at 3pm and had to bring some home for later!! Excellent service and surroundings. Worth a note - the facilities were very clean.
