“Worth heading West for”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 11, 2013

This was the second time that my wife and I had stayed at LMH; we had returned knowing that we had probably originally caught them on a 'bad day' a few years ago when we were there for the first time in the depths of winter and had no hot water at all for some reason whilst staying in the original old building.

Thankfully this proved to be the case; we had booked a last minute two night stay having not been sure of our dates and procured an excellent rate which also proved to be in one of the upgraded superior rooms. From the outset, the staff were very pleasant and helpful despite a busy, full hotel. Our room was well appointed with the well known excellent view from the terrace. There is a bit of noise from the adjacent rooms (this being in the Cedar Wing), but nothing to get worked up about.

We ate in the Chartroom II Bistro, which was excellent throughout with highly attentive and obviously well-trained staff. We were provided without question with a continental breakfast delivered to our room the night before an early departure on a day trip as detailed in the hotel in-room information; thoughtfully arranged to be delivered in the late evening due to the hot weather!

At breakfast in the hotel on the second day, there were plenty of tables available, but staff offered without prompting to clear a table by the window with an unobstructed view for us if we wished and offered tea/coffee whilst we waited. The manageress became aware of us waiting and ensured that we were ushered to our table as soon as it became available; excellent service.

The normal room rates can be quite high in the season, but the attentive service, location and excellent food makes a visit worthwhile. An easy improvement suggestion which would have a big effect would be to weed around the room terraces and especially on the Bar patio.

We look forward to returning on one of our many west coast trips during which in the past we have sampled several other hotels in the area which so far can't compete with competent, friendly service like this.

Room Tip: All Cedar Wing rooms have an unobstructed sea view.

Thank you so much for your very detailed review. It is lovely to hear that you have experienced the magic of Loch Melfort and thanks for all your helpful comments. Weeding is in hand today!! We do provide comment cards in the rooms, so always helpful if you want to make comments about maintenace etc so they can be actioned straight away. Sometimes in our busy lives, little things do get over looked, but concentrating on guest experience and tip top service is one of our main priorites and I am glad that you experienced great service here. Sam and the team will be delighted to have such praise, in high season it is non- stop and they work extremely hard all hours of the day to get things right!

We look forward to welcoming you back sometime soon

Kind regards

Great service + Great food + Great views
All staff were very helpful, very friendly and competent.
We stayed for 3 nights and would have loved to stay longer. The view from our room was tremendous. The lounge areas were well set out, had very comfortable, even luxurious, furniture and furnishings and excellent service. The view from many areas of the hotel was beautiful and varied as sea views do. Our chalet type room was excellent, well appointed and well serviced. It had uninterrupted views of the sea and the surrounding land. There was a little noise (creaking floorboards) from the room above but this did not in any way diminish our relaxation and enjoyment. The food was superb. The dinner menu was outstanding with excellent range and wonderfully high quality food, skilfully prepared, cooked to order and beautifully presented from the homemade appetisers through to the complementary sweets with our coffees. Breakfast had an excellent range of food with hot food beautifully cooked to order.

Arduaine Gardens immediately beside the hotel were beautiful. The rhododendrons were stunning, huge and colourful. The walkways were well set out and provided stunning views. The very helpful guide notes added to our enjoyment.
Our whole experience was wonderful, hugely relaxing and just absolutely lovely. We plan to return as soon as we can.

Lovely setting, rooms don't have much sound proofing so need to talk quietly. Staff very helpful and both restaurants offer excellent food although don't choose a caesar salad in the bistro!!
Lovely walks through the gardens.

Many thanks for your review and it sounds as though you enjoyed the majority of your stay. Soundproofing is an area we are investing in and all our Cedar Wing Superior rooms are now reinsulated and sound proofed. We hope to continue to roll-out this refurbishment as we need to redecorate rooms. I am not sure what your comment about the salad in the Bistro refers to, but hopefully we resolved any problems that you may have had with it when you were here!

Kind regards

Rachel and Calum.

The Loch Melfort Hotel has a uniquely beautiful situation, and is exceptionally well run by capable and friendly staff. There are many examples of the thought put into this operation by the proprietors, and the only grouse we had was the poor soundproofing of a Cedar Wing room, which is an issue well know on to the proprietors but which must be very difficult improve.
The awards earned by the Loch Melfort Hotel are well deserved.

Many thanks for your review and we are so glad you enjoyed your stay. We are always working to continuously improve the hotel and sondproofing is one area that we have been investing in over the last year or so. All of our superior Cedar Wing rooms are now upgraded to include new sound proofing, so please ask for one of these, or a Main House room, when you book.

We look forward to welcoming you back sometime soon

I have stayed here three times in all over thej last ten years. My husband and I went back there last week for a couple of nights on our own. The staff are so lovely, very well trained. The food is gorgeous. The views are to die for and when you are there take a tour around the gardens - fantastic. I believe the Hotel has just won another ward so well done you deserve it!

We thought the hotel, restaurant, staff and location were excellent! We stayed for three nights in May 2013 and used the hotel as a base for touring locally - there are a number of super places to visit quite close by e.g Kilmartin and Seal Island. The adjacent NTS garden, which the hotel supports, was a particular bonus. The hotel adverts say it has the best views on the west coast of Scotland and they are probably right. We used the dining room and the bistro for evening meals; both were excellent.

Thanks so much for writing a review and we're glad you enjoyed your stay. We are enjoying Argyll Riviera weather here at the moment and the gardens next door are experiencing a 10 year bloom spectacle - all the plants that came out late because of the cold Spring are still out and the Summer flowers are coming through at the same time. Stunning! We hope you come back and see us again soon.

Stayed here for a short break with two dogs! Every member of staff were pleasant, polite, friendly and helpful without exception!
The hotel is in the most wonderful location with views to die for!
Our room in the cedar wing was clean, comfortable and spacious. Being on the ground floor was excellent for the dogs and with our private terrace we could sit and soak up the view (you don't need to be on the first floor to appreciate it!) while the dogs stretched out on the grass in front of us!
The food in both the Bistro and the Restaurant was excellent and very well presented and once again the view!
An easy stroll down the path to the beach where dogs can rid themselves of excess energy added to making this a most enjoyable trip and well worth the 12 hour round trip for two most enjoyable nights at this wonderful hotel!

Room Tip: Ground floor rooms are ideal if you have a dog and still have fabulous views. We were aware there we...
