“Amazing Sunset”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 3, 2012

We recently stayed 2 nights in the Cedar Wing for the gourmet dining experience. The views were amazing from our room but we definitely needed the spare blankets and heater that were provided. All the staff were very attentive and friendly. The gourmet evening was everything we expected it to be from the review we had read in the P&J. The only thing I would suggest is starting at 6pm rather than 7 as we were too exhausted to enjoy our dessert.

Overall we had a very enjoyable stay but be aware that they charge 5 star prices on drinks in the lounge bar. This gave us quite a shock when settling our bill.

What an amazing location! We booked this hotel through a Groupon deal; one night B&B. On arrival we were greeted by a very helpful member of staff and shown around the hotel (dining room, two lounges, etc). We were then taken to our room in the Cedar Wing (upper floor). Well, the first thing that hits you is the generous size of the room. Your focus is then taken by the spectacular view over the Asknish Bay looking towards Jura, Shuna and Scarba. The room was very comfortable with a lovely big bed and you can access the balcony through patio doors. We decided not to sit out on the balcony due to the slightly chilly temperature but I can certainly imagine spending a few hours relaxing and watching the world go by outside (not to mention the highland cows!).

We'd booked dinner for 8pm when checking in and headed down around 7.30 for a drink in one of the lounges which gave us time to peruse the three menus on offer. The bistro was closed but the bistro menu was available to choose from. We ordered off the a la carte menu - both of us ordered scallops for starter - absolutely delicious. My partner had lobster for main and I had brill - both dishes were fantastic and beautifully presented. All washed down with a lovely bottle of white wine. Whilst the meal was fantastic, it was the service which really made it special; the staff were extremely helpful and attentive. After dinner we had coffee, sweets and a wee dram in one of the lounges.

Breakfast was served in the dining room with an abslutely stunning view over the water. A cooked breakfast was available but we both went for the continental option which more than sufficed. Once again the customer service was excellent.

Overall we had a wonderful stay at Loch Melfort Hotel and would definitely recommend it. We will definitely be back but in the summer to enjoy the views long into the night.

Thanks so much for your review and we are really glad you enjoyed your stay here and were so well looked after. I hope you can get to come back in the summer and enjoy a bit more time relaxing out on the terrace outside your room and who knows, even some sunbathing!

Kind regards

This hotel is in a lovely location. We booked a deal for a dog friendly room which are located out in the Cedar Wing. Don't be put off my the slightly damp corridor they use to show you to your room, the rooms are nicely decorated and clean with patio doors leading out on to the garden and views beyond. There a number of rules for dogs (which not everyone seems to comply with!) which means dogs aren't allowed anywhere bar your room. So if like us your not keen on leaving your dog locked in the car not being able to use the bar means no dining option. However Oban can be reached in about 30 minutes with a number of dog friendly options and breakfast can be delivered to your room.

Many thanks for your review. We do have many dog lovers staying here in our 6 pet friendly ground floor rooms. Regrettably, as so many people have allergies to dogs, or just simply don't like them, we do not allow dogs in the public areas. Our dogs, Hector and Toby are the worst culprits for breaking the rules as they try very hard to sneak in when noone is looking! They do get short shrift when found, however! We do hope you will come and stay again with us in 2013.

We had a fab weekend away in this lovely hotel. The views are amazing and the food was fantastic. Although they did manage to cater for my partners very fussy plain palette.... he was disappointed that the sticky toffee pudding was only avaiable on our first night as the full bistro menu stopped while we were there. It was so good we will make sure on our future visits we come a few days earlier.
I did love the more exciting menu avaiable and enjoyed it the max.

Room Tip: Liked being in the main hotel as it was such a great friendly enviroment.

My husband and I spent a wonderful night in this fabulous hotel. On arrival we were greeted and taken to our room by the extremely helpful and friendly receptionist. We were delighted with our room which was extremely roomy with every comfort available including a lovely big bed from which you could look out onto spectacular views over the sea.
We decided to eat in the bar instead of fine dining in the restaurant. As lovers of seafood we were not disappointed, tucking into starters of cracked crab claws and langoustine, followed by main courses of scallops and steak. The waiter was friendly and food beautifully presented. After dinner coffee was taken in the small lounge in front of an open fire. Breakfast the next morning was also wonderful with me having kippers and my husband having THE WORKS! ie a full Scottish breakfast.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will most definitely be back again.

Room Tip: Our room was lovely but as we have only stayed here on one occasion I cannot comment on other rooms.

I won a weekend in the hotel from an online competition, and what an amazing prize it turned out to be!! I had never really thought to visit this area of Scotland before, but this hotel and it's stunning views made the drive from Glasgow Airport worth every minute.

We felt really welcome from the second we arrived and I found the staff to be incredibly polite, professional and friendly. No problem was too big for them and even a key snapping off in the door to our room took just a couple of minutes to resolve.

I would recommend this hotel to all of my friends and family and would love to come back and stay another time. (Hopefully for longer next time!)

We were also lucky enough to win dinner in the hotel restaurant, which was delicious and again, very good service. I would certainly recommend eating here, if you stay at the hotel, and also sampling some of the delicious cakes in the lounge in front of the roaring fire! The breakfast was fantastic and we loved the home made raspberry jam so much that we had to take some home with us!

My only comment would be that being late October, it was very cold, and I would have appreciated some blankets in the room. Having said that, I didn't ask for any in reception, so I can't complain too much, and it meant that I just had to cuddle up to my husband a little closer!!

We have just returned from a lovely weekend at the Loch Melfort hotel. As previous reviews state the views are simply wonderful and worth the trip in themselves. Yes, the annexe rooms do look like a motel from the exterior but are nicely furnished inside. The room was immaculate and comfortable. The bathroom again was spotlessly clean with my only criticism being the variable water pressure in the shower- I appreciate, however, that this is due to the private water supply and was not a huge problem.

We ate in both the fine dining restaurant and the bistro and found them both to be excellent. The food was well prepared and varied and value for money given the quality. The hotel also has an excellent wine selection. The staff are also worth a mention- everyone we encountered was especially pleasant and helpful and provided an outstanding level of service.

Room Tip: Upstairs room in cedar wing- terrific views and quiet.

Many thanks for your fantastic review of our hotel and we are so glad you enjoyed your stay. Peter Carr, our Head Chef, is making such an impact in our Restaurant, he really concentrates on local produce and flavour. Buying locally is never cheap, but the quality is worth it and in Peter's hands is a dining delight! I do hope you will indulge in a short break with us again soon.

Kind regards
