Owner description: Fabulous visitor centre with free exhibition and tour of an interesting engineering achievement. Great for teaching kids about power in a fun way. Discover one of the hidden wonders of the Scottish Highlands. An underground world on a spectacular scale. The gift shop, Lochside cafe and picnic area are not to missed either!

“Short tour for the price”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2013

Rather short for the price.
Basically you get on a bus and listen to a presentation given by a chap who sounds like a failed actor... too much effort in his patter.
Then a short drive into the mountain, a walk past some plants growing under lights into a room which you are able to look through a window. Then its back out and done.

“Something different”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 3, 2013

We popped in here on our way home from Taychreggan hotel today. The guided tour only takes 30 minutes and is very interesting and informative. This power station inside a mountain is something totally different and the staff were very friendly and informative. There is an exhibition space, a gift shop and a cafe with lovely views of the loch. It's well worth a visit.

“Good food, great views and an underground world”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 26, 2013

Coming back from Oban, the engineer in me couldn't resist popping in to see the Hollow Mountain. It didn't disappoint!

Friendly staff, not sure about the tartan though. The exhibit space is well thought out and manages to explain everything in a simple yet accurate manner.

The tour was excellent, our guide was knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the subject, and it was very easy to see why. The power station inside the mountain has a great history, and they have newspaper scrapbooks covering it, from planning and the deaths during construction to the switch on and power generation.

Getting to see the upper power generation hall and hear the 4 turbines in operation gives you an understanding of just how large they are and how large our demand for energy can be.

The cafe has a selection of food, burgers (plain, cheese or cheese and bacon) bacon rolls, a variety of sandwiches (in the words of the member of staff serving "if you want it, we can probably make it"), toasted sandwiches and paninis and some truly excellent soup.

Well worth the drive.

Really interesting with a great tour guide who is passionate and entertaining. Good value for money but didn't take as long as expected.
