“How to meet the most Unhelpful Golf Professional ever!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 22, 2011

Just returned from our club trip. This is now my third visit which speaks volumes for the food, the accomodation, the golf and the bar and catering staff. All are first class.
In no way shape or form however, can any praise ever be applied to the Resident Professional. He is without doubt the most unhelpful, rude and obnoxious person i have ever come across.

In each visit, this "professional" has tainted our trip. Everything from insisting the course was playable 12 months ago (when the greens stood under 2cm of water) to not supplying score cards because "you are too early to get them" to refusing to supply longest drive and nearest pin markers, to not even allowing members of our party to browse in the shop or enquire abour buggy availability without being met with a terse and arrogant comment or response.

It got so bad, that some of the guests went to purchase refreshements from a local shop rather than endure the misery of dealing with him. (some profit lost there eh pal????...........good)!

To cap it all off, we were sent on our way with a comment of "i have a course marshall out there to watch what you are doing ( bear in mind we were a party of 40+grown men)!!..not a word about "play well guys/enjoy yourselves" etc...absolutely incredible!

The venue is first class. The food is of a fantastic standard. The bar staff are helpful, friendly and a pleasure to deal with.

Despite all the good things that the venue offers, sadly, i will not be returing to Hunley whilst ever the club continues to retain the services of this professional.
I hope and expect that Hunley realise that a fundamental aspect of the success of their business is quality customer service. This encourages repeat business and word of mouth recommendations.

The only recommendation i could make is that by all means visit Hunley. Its value for money is first class. Just do yourself a favour a and stay away from the professional.
He is clearly making enough profit from the members to not give a care in the world in how he deals with and welcomes visiting parties.

Sad really.

Room Tip: Rooms on the second floor (20-29) are larger and more refined.

I've just returned from a wonderful weekend with my wife and another golfing couple. We stayed for one night, dinner bed and breakfast with two rounds of golf. It must be the best value for money on the planet!
The hotel is absolutely fine for a weekend break, unpretentious, but comfortable, serving excellent food in both the restaurant at night and the bar during the day with plenty of choice. The service was not only excellent but always delivered with a smile and a friendly word.
The golf course, or should I say courses, (they can make 4 combinations) are well maintained and provide a good challenge and are just perfect for a holiday weekend and for golfers of varying ability. You also get some lovely views out to sea.
The members and other guests were all very friendly and the whole atmosphere is warm and so friendly.
Well done and thank you to everyone associated with the Hotel and Golf Club.
We will definately be returning.
If I had any critism, the mattress was very soft and I prefer firm....but thats just my personal preference!

As a group of golfers, we have just enjoyed a really excellent 4 days golf and hotel living in a splendid location, where the hotel staff could not have done more, the rooms were very comfortable and all the food was delicious. However.....pity about the pro-shop. Here there was a distinct lack of any kind of a welcome to a visiting party who paid a not inconsiderable amount of money over their counter in both buggy fees and shop purchases. Sadly there was a distinct impression of "could not care less....just give us your money!"

Hotel is in nice location and golf course looked great. Nice coastal walk nearby. Room was OK. Very clean. Did not sleep well due to blinds being so thin and let the light in plus room location was poor as everyone went past and was noisy. Staff very friendly and helpful. Restaurant staff could do with a bit more training however they were friendly. Food was lovely.

I've been taking my mum for a weekend break every month to visit relatives in the area. Hunley Hotel has been brilliant for us. The rooms are large and comfortable, staff are very welcoming, room service evening meals are great and the breakfasts are excellent. Only one tiny quibble, the new hall carpet is a bit LSD.

The staff were faultless, food very good, room with a view of the sea beyond the golf course. We have nothing but praise. Although we are non golfers we did not feel out of it in any way and thought that the golf probably subsitised the hotel. The prices were reasonable and the standard high.
We were unsure how to mark the location. For us the sun was shining most of the time, we enjoyed a walk along a section of the cleveland way which runs between the cliff edge and the golf course. We walked towards Saltburn and came across some interesting iron work. We found the hotel to be handy for driving short distances to resorts so we could have give it 5. However some might find it a little isolated especially if the weather is not so good.
No problem finding the hotel if you follow the hotels own simple directions.
The room (room 21) was classed as superior and was acceptable, the bathroom ideal.
Darren et all were so good we might have stayed a third night if the hotel was not fully booked.
