“Brilliant Stay!!!! Don't believe all the negative comments here!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2013

We attended my mams wedding here on 16th March 2 adults and 1 child and we were a little worried with all the reviews we had read on here but i am happy to say this was a very nice hotel, The staff were very friendly and helpful went out of there way to help with everything, The room was very nice and clean, both beds very comfy, The view from the room was amazing of the cliffs and the beach. The wedding it self was brilliant the dinning room was stunning and the room for the evening party was just as good and we are thinking about having our own wedding here it was that good, would highly recommend this hotel for a nice break or a wedding

The Room.
The good: The room was nice, it was very clean and the view was good. The bathroom was clean and had plenty of towels and soaps.

The bad: The room was in need of some minor repairs, some bed knobs were missing and the fan in the bathroom didn't work. The windows were also a little draughty.

The service.
The good: The staff were generally very friendly and helpful.

The bad: The staff were quite informal and it seemed that sometimes we were a bit of an annoyance to them, like a child asking a busy parent for a cookie. We had to wait to check in since there was no one on the desk and the lady who checked us in seemed to be making passive aggressive comments about other, absent, staff while we were being shown are room.
When we had lunch we had to wait quite a while for service despite being the only people there and the room where we were was very cold.

The food.
The good: It was a fair price I guess.

The bad: It had a preprepared out of the packet feel to it and the breakfast was quite lacklustre and seemed to have been left out under a heat lamp for awhile.

Room Tip: Ok, if you need a place to crash and have some spare money. We'll be trying a B&B next time...

Thanks for taking your time to review us. We're pleased that you liked your room and found our staff to be helpful and friendly; we're sorry that you found them to be less formal than you had hoped for in a hotel.

Our hotel is a family run business and our staff are the sorts that would ask a friend to lend a customer a pair of wellies, ask a friend to nip up to a local garage when a customer runs out of petrol and generally do their very best to make a customer's stay as comfortable as possible. We always feel proud that our staff will go the extra mile but, on this occasion, it has fallen short for you. For that, we apologise.

Our kitchen preparse food fresh at every point in the day. At no point has it been prepared out of the packet-this has never happened. I'm sorry that your breakfast was not what you expected. As a very fairly priced hotel, our breakfasts are cooked to order and we're sorry you didn't enjoy it.

Best wishes, Cathy Kelly

This is our first visit and we thoroughly enjoyed the food, excellent steak and ale pie and gammon. Young staff but extremely friendly and helpful nothing was too much trouble. Be prepared for large portions so be aware for lighter eaters, we had 2 elderly ladies, but we were gladly given wrap ups for the steak baguettes.

My friend and I stayed for the weekend and found the hotel to be very comfortable and welcoming. We had a special deal which included dinner, bed and breakfast.. £60 per night..which was amazingly good value. The food was delicious and plentiful. The staff were mostly quite young but extremely polite and attentive and very helpful, despite the fact that there was an engagement party on at the same time.
the room was very comfortable (no 23)...at the end of the corridor so we didn't hear any noise at all.
I stupidly left my makeup bag and they posted it out to me at no cost..they wouldn't accept the £3.15 which i offered to repay them.
Was most impressed by the good service...something that costs nothing to give but is sadly lacking in many establishments. Would come back here no problem.

I read the reviews on here, and the hotel website, before booking my room and decided that the owners were making such a concerted effort to change things that it was worth a try. The location is amazing, and the staff are very friendly and helpful, but I couldn't sleep in the noisy room and that's one of the main purposes of a hotel room, to get some sleep! There was a steady thrumming sound in the room, like when you sleep on a ferry, which I thought may have been a generator or air conditioning. When I still wasn't asleep by 2am I went to find a member of staff. The lad was very concerned and thought he'd noticed the dryer on earlier and went off to turn it off for me. This made a considerable difference but I could still hear what sounded like a washing machine, the person next door snoring, footsteps next door and toilet flushes/water running. I didn't get to sleep until 4.30am when the washing machine finally went off, and was woken at 7.30am by loud voices directly outside my window and under my room dealing with what I later discovered was the sewage problem described by other guests.
This hotel is in an amazing location and has huge potential but until the noise issues are dealt with can't, when the hotel is full, offer a decent night's sleep. I checked out early in tears, not being able to face breakfast, and was given a £5 reduction on my bill. Maybe the key is to stay when the hotel is less busy and in a room on one of the upper floors but I certainly wouldn't risk it again after such an atrocious night.

Thanks for your review.

I think you are possibly the friend mentioned below in another guest's review from that night and we are sorry that you both had such a bad time at the hotel. You've raised a valuable point and one that can be addressed instantly and has been. Our kitchens have often used the machines at the end of an evening and this has obviously had a dreadful impact upon your sleep, for which we apologise. It was easily dealt with but unfortunately not before your stay. It would appear that our reception staff were unaware of how bad a night's sleep you had experienced.

Again, with reference to the plumbing issues-they were resolved on the day and are no longer a problem.

Best wishes, Cathy Kelly
