We arrived to an awful smell which I was told was not damp but sewage. The pipes were blocked but they had a temporary solution until Monday. We sprayed perfume around us so we could eat with awful stink in th efrezzing cold conservatory. The next day I awoke and found sewage flowing out down the driveway. Initially I was told it was food so happily stepped through it to get out but on close examination it was obvious it was the toilets contents! The reception said it was the first problem they had had with the sewrs and that I was misinformed regarding the plumbe rbeing unable to fix it. Anyway it was sorted at some point during the day.
The food was nice although hardly anything was available on the saturday asthey had a function on. The staff were very nice I have to say. the room was nice and clean although the unworking phone and the wires hanging down in the hall were worrying. The bar and restaurant were cold, the rest of the hotel cosy( too hot in room at night). The walls are very thin and the toilets so loud that you get woken by any talking or bathroom visist by the roome above or next door. Our friend had such a bad night she left before even eating breakfast ,because of the noise!
The hotel badly needs renovating. Such a shame as a good price for dinner bed and breakfast , nice location and lovely staff. Food was generally good. I would not return unless I was sure things had massively improved. Oh and watch your bill. I had an extra £20 added and it was hard to work out from the complicated bill.
Well done to the bar and restaurant staff who kept smiling throughout. You made it !

Thank for your review. We've had a chat with all the staff and they remember your stay at the hotel, so we have managed to get to the bottom of all the problems you had and are happy that they are all in hand.

In terms of the plumbing problem. It was a one off we are pleased to say and was dealt with that same day as you said. Apologies that it impacted so badly upon your particular stay.

In terms of the renovations, this has been an ongoing project since September and is definitely something that has been at the very core of all short and long term planning. It's a real shame as we have had so many people noticing the difference whom were previous guests and everything they have said has been positive; our local guests have had nothing but positive comments to make, so to hear otherwise via Trip advisor is really disappointing . The £60 dinner, bed and breakfast deal is very reasonably priced as are all our room rates as we are not (and never plan to be) an expensive, boutique style hotel. However, we take on board all your comments and appreciate you taking the time to detail all so well.

I understand that the £20 added to your bill was due to a reception area where a deposit had not been marked against the bill. Apologies for this and staff will be reminded to make sure that a deposit has been correctly allocated. It is obviously essential that bills are checked on both parts and this is something that should not have happened, however quickly it was rectified.

Best wishes,

Cathy Kelly

A lovely friendly hotel with pleasant views. Nice bar and restaurant. The rooms tastefully furnished and warm. Modern tv and bathroom. The chair too big to get in front of the desk but everything else was brilliant.

We didn't stay overnight here on our visit to Saltburn however we have eaten here a couple of times. The Sunday lunch is great value and the food is delicious- plus the views from the conservatory really top off the meal. Staff have always been very welcoming and helpful. A great place to eat after a walk along the beach!

Thanks and we're pleased you enjoyed your Sunday dinner.

Our own kids always ask us to come to work on a Sunday just for the dinner...and it's always great to be cooked for (and spared the washing up!) I've never had a bad one here and I'm fussy when it comes to a good Sunday dinner so thanks for taking the time to review us...

Best wishes,

Cathy Kelly

Can't fault the food, was very tasty carvery.
Service was very friendly but not overbearing.
Sat in conservatory with a spectacular view of coast. Will definitely be back, lunch for 2 adults and a child with drinks for less than 25 notes its a bargain!!

Thanks for reviewing our Sunday Carvery-it's good of you to take the time. Sunday is always a busy day at The Spa and a great way to pass the afternoon before or after a walk on the beach.

We've got some very cute kids colouring pads now and lots of plans for the kitchen over the summer. The Spa's Thursday Grill night has just started too...Pop in if you're passing by (the King Prawns look lovely!)

Best wishes,

we had our wedding at the above venue on 25.01.13. The venue was perfect, the staff were so accomodating and could not do more for us. We have had so many compliment since about the food at the hotel and alot of family members are looking forward to going back there for a sunday carvery. (Neither us nor our guests had eaten here before and can guarentee it will not be the last time.) Having visited The spa hotel once back in 2005, can definately say that the new owners and their recent renovations have made use of the great deal of potentional that this hotel holds. It has amazing views from the conservatory, the function room is a brilliant size and the accomodation was just heaven. Cannot thank the staff enough for all of their time and effort that was put into making our day just perfect. would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a night away, some decent food or just a quick drink after a walk on the pier.
