Description: “Peyia Tavern” is a family restaurant and is highly recommended, here you will have the opportunity to sample the “Traditional Special Meat Meze”, great dish for the meat lovers. The meat is cooked in the traditional Cypriot way (on the charcoal). The Special Meze is served one dish at a time by the Taverna staff which are family members. Be careful not to over face yourself with the bread, salad, dips and pourgouri (traditional couscous) which is served as an appetiser prior to the meat dishes. Also the taverna serves traditional dishes like "Halloumi", "Sieftalia" and "Stifado".

“Cheap and cheerful”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2013

Went here because others had reviewed it favourably.

Like almost everyone in the restaurant, it seemed, we went for the meat mezze. It was ok, but it had a sort of production line feel to it, and none of the dishes was particularly outstanding. For example, one of the courses was a piece of chicken squashed flat and grilled, with no herbs or spices to give it any interest.

The host of course was charming and he worked very hard, on his own, front of house, to take orders and bring the food to the table. As others have said, he IS the menu. He recites everything they have from memory. But as the range of dishes on offer is so small, this is not a great feat!

Probably wouldn't go back, but that's not because the meal was bad.

“Food without the frills”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 27, 2013

I was a bit disappointed with the food after reading some of the reviews. It was ok but nothing special. We had the Meze and, although there was a lot of it, I think that the quality was sacrificed for the quantity, I would rather have had it the other way round. The service was fine and staff were pleasant. It was also nice to be able to see village life from our table. Did not merit a second visit.

“Simple meze freshly prepared”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 27, 2013

I have being eating here for so many years and it is always good. Owner Mixalis and sons are there to serve you in a friendly way. There is a tiny terrace outside and when it's really hot is it worth pre booking or just getting there early for one of these. Our meze was lovely, it included delicious lamb chops, crispy yet tender, and fresh off the hot charcoals, halloumi cheese and lounza. This is how halloumi should be eaten, when you cut it is soft, mmm. Wine list simple so we drank cold white Vasilikon, always reliable. Prices are good here too. It looks nothing from the outside and if you blinked you would miss it. Coming up the hill from Coral Bay, it is at top of hill in central Peyia, on the right up 6 or so steps. Free parking opposite

“Excellent traditional taverna in centre of Peyia village”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2013

A long-time favourite of ours as residents, family-run Peyia Tavern is one of the last remaining truly traditional tavernas offering good local food at reasonable prices, friendly service & a typical Cyprus village ambiance. Always good & although there is not a lot of choice for vegetarians, the freshly made salads, dips, pourgouri & grilled village halloumi cheese can satisfy most veggies. Those looking for meat will not be disappointed. Great view of sunset from outside tables just above main street in the village centre. Easy parking in the Municipal parking space across from the taverna.
