“Nice family atmosphere, basic accommodation”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 29, 2009

The main hotel is nice, the pool area is clean, the staff are very friendly and the food very good and reasonably priced. There is a small pebble beach just across the road.
There's a really nice family atmosphere, Greek night and BBQ is a great ice breaker.
Our apartment in the older 'annexe' was disappointing though; we expected basic, but this room was badly in need of refurbishment, there is no A/C and as we were on the ground floor, were unable to leave a window open at night because of unwanted 'guests'. Cleaning/laundry was somewhat haphazard. Didn't spoil the holiday, but we had quite a few uncomfortable nights.
The 15 minute walk to Benitses became a bind after the 1st week and is quite dangerous at night, you're better off getting a car. Some parts of the resort are somewhat run-down, but the main square is nice.
Michael's Taverna is only 5 minutes walk away, the food is fantatsic traditional Greek fare, and you can sit out overlooking the sea - very romantic.
Recommended eatery in Benitses - Pizza 'Flogas' - bruchetta with gouda and Corfian beer. Also follow the sign for the 'Old Village' for gyros pita from the kebab shop and a great chinese. 'Big Bite on the beach' for a substantial English breakfast
For a little more variety and cheaper prices, try the green bus to Moraitica/Messongi - the Rose Garden is a great restaurant in a lovely setting. For something a little less formal, try 'Edesma' - XXL gyros pita for €3.90 and large beer €1.70.

I found the holiday last minute as a budget and was i really pleased if you can get over the steps to you re room and the walk in to town then this hotel should not be over looked
i have stayed in some expensive with all the frils but the karina for me was superb the hospitality the service the home cooked food was awsome. Spiros jo george everyone that worked there at this hotel were amazing and the best bit staffis the dog. I will be going back for sure next year infact i have already booked. Ok there is not much of a beach i i recommend taking water shoes failing that hope on a bus which stops just outside the karina and go to messonghi 10 miniute bus ride and a lovely sandy safe beach . thanks very much for a superb holiday karina.

This is a no frills honest 2 star hotel run by a very warm and hospitable family & staff that genuinely make you very welcome and do what they can to make your holiday as an enjoyable experience as possible. We will be returning.
Fabulous views, excellent home cooking, terrific atmosphere

This is not a self catering hotel

We booked this hotel as a last minute deal 5 days before we went, and from reviews on other websites people either seemed to absolutely love it or absolutely hate it.

To summarise its a fairly basic, but clean hotel with good facilities and very friendly staff who cannot do enough for you, but a location that could be better.

Room overview: Decent sized rooms , most with a balcony. The rooms are spread out over the complex, with most being in the main complex and a few in the annexe, where we stayed. The bathroom is a little cramped, but not unberabaly so. The shower will leak over the bathroom floor, which isnt a major probloem, and you will not get hot water early in the morning before the sun has had a chance to heat it up. After that no problems. Being in Greece, the toilets will not take waste paper - this is the same all over greece and NOT a fault of the hotel. If you can`t deal with this, go to Spain!

The self catering facilities consisted of a combo microwave/ oven and hob unit. How effective it is we cannot say as like everyone else on holiday, we ate out or at the hotel bar.

Beds - mattress looks thin but is comfy, and you will get a good nights sleep . the Balcony has tables and chairs and a stunning view of the sea and mainland greece. All in all its not 5 star comfort, but its not a 5 star hotel, and is comfortable without pampering - you do get good value for money though.

HOTEL: Decent sized swimming pool with a bar area, and plenty of public li-lo`s available for those that want to laze in it. 2 tiered seating area above it with very easy access. The pool ranges from .5m at the shallow end to 2m at the deep end, with a few sunbeds around the edge, and some more on the upper tier. Pool is clean and warm after teh sun has worked its magic - you will need it as well as it gets very hot.

Bar - Bar area has an array of very comfortable seating, and costs about 3.50 euro for a beer, 1.50 euro for wine and 4 euros for cocktails, and about 3 for a spirit with mixer (very generous measures!). Music is played throughout the day and night, a combination of vh` and radio 1. The bar menu is quite extensive and reasonably priced, and the food is good quality.

Staff - This is a family run hotel and the staff cannot do enough for you. Spiros the owner is normally on hand, back up by the ver cheerful Petros, who will greet you with a big "YASOOO" every time he sees you.. They also learn your name very very quickly and make you feel very welcome. It does make such a difference to find hotel staff who really do want to be as welcoming as possible, although baby the dog (who does resemble a mop head on legs!) does seem to enjoy guests company a lot!

Overall the hotel is basic, but has all the facilities you would expect and need from a holiday resort, and a friendly welcoming atmopshere you will not find in the UK, so cannot be faulted.

LOCATION: The hotel is located some 10-15 minutes walk from the town centre. be warned that the hotel is up a hill, and there are no pavements. Most Greek drivers are used to watching out for pedestrians, but they also do not take any prisoners the way they drive. no streetlights either, so take a torch or some glosticks for the walk. With the hill and distance I wouldnt reccommend it for those with very small children or for those with walking difficulties. The town centre mainly consists of numerous tavernas and a reasonable array of bars, the best of which is probably shamrock, although cheers bar will give you a good greek welcome from their english staff!.

Transfer time is approximately 30 minutes from the airport, and a boat excursion will take you to the caves of the island of antipaxos with a visit to paxos for 25 euros each, and a bus can be caught to corfu town for 2 euros. Bus service stops running back from corfu and kavos about 9 in the evening. You can also book an excursion to albania from teh travel agent next to zorbas tavern, but you will need to go next door ro find anyone to serve you!

A good hotel for a relaxing break.
