“Good Apartment”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2011

We had apartment number 6 which when looking at the photo of the studios is the front facing apartment on the 1st floor facing down the drive.

The apartment had a small kitchen/dining area that was a little dark and seemed a bit dated, but everything worked fine. A large fridge/freezer, cooker, kettle and toaster.

The Bathroom was small but nice. We had a nice large shower in that had good water pressure.

We had two bedrooms - one had 2 sofabeds in them and was set out as a living room (there was only 2 of us) and the other bedroom had twin beds pushed together . Both rooms had large wardrobes and plenty of storage space.

We had a very large balcony facing the front of the property which was very nice.

Air-con - we paid 40 euro to have one air-con unit switched on in the bedroom.
Wi-fi was available for 10 euro a week which we did not pay for as you can get free wi-fi at Spiros resturant over the road.

We only went in the swimming pool once - it was nice, although a little small. We always ended up next door at the Mermaid Bar which claimed to have the largest pool in Paleo. We were often the only ones there using it.

The apartments are quite a way from the beech, and I would not have wanted to walk it, thankfully we had a car which came in very handy.

The whole place was kept very clean.

I would happyily stay there again.

Having travelled to Greece for some 30 years we found these studios (not hotel!!) to be the best ever, clean and spacious for a studio, bathroom, kitchen all spotless and adequate, a large balcony. Certainly value for money. When we used the pool we mostly had it to ourselves, The studio was cleaned daily and nothing was too much trouble for the owners. We adored the food at the restaurant oppoiste and used their Acapulco Bar many times and can't wait to go back.

Room Tip: I wouldn't think any of the rooms were noisy we were in room 2 and had no complaints whatsoeveer

Paleokastrista is a small picturesque resort.

We first went to these studios in 2009 for 2 weeks and enjoyed the first time so much we went again for a "cheeky wee week" on 6the June!!
Marilena is a small complex with about 10 studios on 2 levels and are looked after by a very welcoming family. Granny speaks little English but she works hard on keeping the studios clean. The studios are just as you come in to Paleokastrista and for us they are the perfect location. We would say that they are not suitable for the" young team" or families as there is no pool bar or entertainment for youngsters, but as we are in our 50's they are perfect. The pool is situated behind the apartments and some days we were the only one's there. The area itself is approx 2 miles long and the road winds downhill to a small port where you can pick up a boat trip, if it takes your fancy. There is a supermarket just across the roads which supplies all the basics. Restaurants we would recommend are: The Oasis opposite the aparments, Nereids, Nausika, Belevedere (which has lovely views on the bay). There are a few bars too and we always stopped at Tango before or after a meal, it lies just before the on the bend before you head downhill.

There is a local bus approx every hour to take you in to Corfu Town and we hired a quad bike for 3 days so we could visit the lovely wee villages of Lakones, Pelekes, Liapades plus a couple of others.

All in all, if your idea of a hol is relaxing by the pool during the day (or a nice stroll) a good meal in the evening with a nice glass of wine and a couple of drinks, the Marilena Studios and Paleokastrista is for you !!!!!

My boyfriend and I visited the Marilena studios on the back of the reviews I had read here and we were not disappointed. It was beautifully clean and we were given absolutely everything we could ever need in the kitchen. The bathroom was also very nice. We had a large balcony and both air conditioning and the safe were free to use. The pool was a great size and never busy. Eleni was very very helpful and would reply to any emails almost instantaneously. We wanted to stay longer but it was fully booked so Eleni actually drove us herself to a nearby hotel. The studios are slightly far away from the main beaches of Paleo but the amazingly cheap price and high quality service provided makes it very well worth a visit!

I won't repeat the previous comments about cleanliness and quality of service. Suffice to say that the place is spotless and superbly maintained.

The hotel is a located "out of town" (Paleo is a series of bays but this place is located in one of the outer bays) so it is a walk (around 2.5Km) into the centre of Paleo and some of the walk is on quite narrow and unlit roads. There is a bus stop right outside, which takes you to Corfu Town (costs a couple of Euros and takes 25 minutes). It's also very convenient for supermarkets and eating places.

The hotel has a nice pool and a large area to sunbathe. The pool is not suitable for swimming (too shallow). The hotel also provides (free) wi-fi, which worked well and worked fast. Because the hotel is out of town, it is very quiet so your sunbathing (and sleep) will not be ruined by noise.

Speaking of sleep, the beds are superb. Very firm. I slept well without the usual backaches that come with soft beds. The rooms are small but well equipped. The bathroom is spotless with an excellent shower (with hot water at all times of the day).

There is a bar with Sky TV close by and the hotel is located near a nice path to Lakones, which is a lovely walk.

We visited in October and the weather was pretty poor. So we hired a car (from the local car hire shop, which was cheaper than I could find online) and visited other parts of the island. There are lots of nice drives. At this time of the year there are lots of insects (flies, wasps and mozzies) so take some repellent and spray. We previously visited in June when the insects were not an issue.

Overall, the Marilena Apartments are very good and great value for money.

Have been to Paleokatstirsa a number of time I already knew that this is the most pictureque part of the Island, Views from the close by Lakones village is by far the best way to view the hole area from above, it's quite a hike so a car i find would be advisable.
These apartments are fully euqipped with everything you need for a great, relaxed self catering holiday. The studio's are family fun, quiet and very friendly, The lady who cleaned the apartments on a daily basis wa svery nice and pleasant and had a smile every time we saw her, plus she did a great job in cleaning, the aparmtents where always spotless. The apartments have two nice local Tavernas, with a supermarket and bus stop on the doorstep.
The weather late sepetember can be a littl ehit and miss but we landed lucky, arriving on the 20th Sepetmeber we have a run of 4 days of perfect sunshine, we had one day of rain and it was a ful day and heavy rain and thunder, after though returning to the sun again.
September in Paleo is wasp season, apparently somthing to do with the Grapes from the wine makes vinyards attract them and there are litteraly thousands which made it a little hard to eat outside on nice days without being bothered by wasps. Also it becamne apparent very early that mosquitos are rife at this time of year, I was bit more than once every single day, so take lots of lotions, bite cream and plug ins.
On the whole paleokastritsa in my opinion is a fantastic part of the island, the studis/apartments are ideal, clean and a great place to stay, I would not hesitate in recommending them.

We have spent one week in Marilena Studios and were more than inspired by the friendliness of Eleni and her family, the host of Marilena. She told us everything we need to know about Korfu's places of interest, its traditional restaurants and its best beaches and was always attentive and caring to anything we might need.

The apartments were spatious and very clean. Bedlinen and towels were changed regularly according to our needs. The rooms were tidied up on a daily base. The surroundings were very calm.

In summary the price performance ratio couldn't be better. You pay a good price and get more than you could expect!!!

Beaches and supermarkets are a stone's throw away!!!

Best choice in Paleokastritsa!!!
