“Great location, bad mosquitoes”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2012

+
Lovely part of Corfu & hotel located very close to 3 small but idyllic beaches.
Came here beginning of October when temperature was still warm and sea lovely to swim in.
Stayed in the Annexe with clean simple and tastefully decorated rooms.
Breakfast very simple but sufficient for such a low price.
Plenty of restaurants in the area.
They'd forgotten to clean our room but did so right away once reminded. Bulgarian cleaner in the annexe called Chaika is a lovely person!

-
Ridiculous number of mosquitos even in October - got horrendously bitten during 7 days of our stay there. This is not the hotel's fault but still, it would've been nice even they'd advised us about this problem before we arrived or on our first day at least. Found out too late and wish someone had told us so we could take precautions!

Hotel located on a road where a lot of cars & coaches pass/stop as it's on the way to the monastery. This wasn't a problem in the evenings/early mornings but occasionally got a bit noisy in the afternoons. Choose beach furthest away from the road if you want to avoid the fumes!

Allocated room right next to stairs even though others were free at the time. Meant we lacked privacy somewhat. Though generally building was pretty quiet as mainly families and couples stay there

Room Tip: Stay on second floor of Annexe to avoid mosquitos Ask for room away from stairs for more privacy

I booked this hotel as a third party guest with Olympic Holidays, ie flights and transfers organised but no rep service other than a contact phone number should it have been required. I had chosen half board with accommodation in the main hotel as opposed to the nearby annexe. Rooms are what you would normally expect of any Greek hotel, all the basics are there and include a fridge, telephone and tv - aircon if you need it. Standard Greek 'bathroom'/wetroom with no shortage of hot water at any time of day or night - a bonus compared to some establishments! The view from my room (205) on the top floor was absolutely stunning and would justify any claim that this is the best location of any hotel in Paleocastritsa. Good staff in reception, bar, and restaurant areas made for a pleasant holiday experience. The half board 3 course meals at first sight appear on the small side but on reflection are more than adequate with a good variety of choices and 'veggies' being catered for. The freedom to chose whether to take your half board meal at lunchtime or in the evening was a nice touch. All in all a good holiday. Would I go back to Hotel Apollon? Definitely a 'yes'

Room Tip: Top floor rooms in the main hotel complex for an outstanding view of the bay.

We stayed in the Annexe for 8 nights in September, and were really impressed by the location and facilities. Everyone we dealt with in the hotel was really friendly, the food was good, and the basic rooms were cleaned every day, with fresh towels every second day.
The reason we will come back though, is the amazing location. Right on the best beach in the area, great restaurants in close proximity, bus stop for Corfu Town just outside the hotel, free Wi-fi from the hotel extends to the beach- this was really an ideal location for what we were looking for in a destination. The village is fairly buzzy during the day, when the coach trips arrive and depart regularly, but in the evenings, as the sun is going down over one of the amazing views in this beautiful part of the world. Ahhh, I wish I was there right now!
Back to reality, this was also a great value for money stay, the annexe having pretty much everything the main hotel has- Fridge, TV, hairdryer in room- the main difference being that bathrooms in the Annexe are a little more Greek.
I couldn't recommend this location and this hotel highly enough- I'm sure there are fancier hotels in Paleo, but they don't have the wonderful location of the Apollon.
I would recommend for couples, older people, singles.

Room Tip: Go for the Annex- great value.

We had an amazing holiday, we look forward to go back there one day. The staff are friendly and helpful, the breakfast is good and great location(opposite to the beach). Thanks all the staff from Apollon.

I stayed here for a week in the main hotel on a half board basis.
Upon arrival we were greeted very warmly by hotel staff who explained the various activities put on by the hotel. We also got an information pack in our room - take the time to read it, it was very useful.
Rooms were basic but clean, fresh linen every day and clean towels every 3 days. There was a fridge in the room and although you are not allowed to use it for food (it will attract ants) it was great for keeping water nice and cold. We were on the 2nd floor which seemed to be the best of the 3 floors, we had a large shared balcony with sunloungers, tables and chairs and parasols and an excellent view of the sea. This meant that whenever we wanted to sunbathe we didn't have to go and pay for a sunbed on the crowded beach. Air conditioning is 6 euros per day and definately worth the money. When we visited, the temperature was 30 degrees plus every day and this was stiffling at night (we went one day without.) The air con made all the difference.
Food in the restaurant was superb, I was wary of going half board but it really was excellent value for money. Breakfast was served as a continental buffet, with meats, cheese, yoghurt, cereal, toast, fruit, different types of bread and a selection of different eggs (fried, boiled, scrambled and ommelette) each day. You could pay extra for a cooked breakfast (about 5 euro.) Dinner was 3 courses, with 3 options for each course. Starter is always a soup, salad and greek option, main a meat, fish and vegetarian option and pudding icecream, fruit or greek desert. The quality was very good, food was always served quickly and staff were very nice to us.
The hotel has free wifi for guests and puts on a range of entertainmant in the evening - although we mostly went elsewhere. They also do day trips to various beaches, caves and places around the island. We arranged to go to Aqualand through the hotel since we couldn't hire a car (you must be 21) and no bus routes go there. The staff also arranged for us to go scuba diving - getting picked up and dropped off at the hotel. We found this very helpful as it made planning activities much easier given we do not speak Greek!
A visit into Corfu town is also worth it. The bus is only about 2 euros each way, and even if you do not want to do any of the touristy things, it's nice to go for a change of scenery.
You can walk to 3 beaches in less than 5 minutes and hire pedalos, canoes, or engage in water skiing, banana boating and donuting. We did and it was worth the money - great fun! There are also loads of places doing drop offs for the day on other beaches - for about 15 euro, or you can hire a speedboat (no experience needed) for 50 euro.
There really is loads to do for such a quiet resort.
The only negative thing I would say about the Apollon is that the bus timetable in reception is out of date, this caused minor inconvinience to us one morning while waiting on the bus. Otherwise, it really was a lovely experience which was made all the better by the staff who were friendly and always ready to help. I would reccomend it especially to couples and families.

Room Tip: Try to get a room on the 2nd floor with the shared balcony.

I stayed here for a week on my own, half board in the main hotel, at the beginning of June and couldn't find fault with the hotel at all. I was a bit nervous as it was my first holiday on my own but the staff went out of their way to look after all of their guests, especially Yannis who made a point of learning my name and remembering it each night I came down for dinner. There were many returning regulars there as well and they were all very welcoming, rather than being cliquey as you sometimes get.

The food was good; always very tasty and a good selection of local dishes too. The location of the hotel is excellent - literally across the road from the beach and at night you hear the waves gently lapping the shore. The bus stops right outside the hotel as well so you can easily take a trip into Corfu town/other areas.

Just a point to note that only realised after booking, but there is no swimming pool. But you don't really miss it given the proximity of the beach.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this to anyone looking a for chilled week or two away - I'm just ashamed it's taken me this long to write the review!

Room Tip: The second floor rooms have a larger terrace that you can use for sunbathing (but note, there is no...
