Like a Greek village, Porto Galini is a warm and welcoming resort with friendly staff, beautiful scenery and well looked after buildings and surroundings. We stayed for a week in early June with a large family and had a really enjoyable time.

Part of our family stayed in the new rooms by the pool: they were very high standard. We stayed in one of the older buildings: not as posh, but a little bigger and very nice and clean, with a balcony facing the sea and sunrise. All three rooms were reserved as standard.

The pool areas are well maintained, no difficulty in getting a parasol and a chair. The beach is pebbly, so swim shoes are a good option.

The food.. I'm a bit of a foodie, so I was in love with the breakfast - from bacon and regular/egg-white omelette to greek youghurt with a selection of fresh and dried fruit and nuts and nutella with croissants. You name it, they serve it. Warm milk, hand-squeezed orange juice, fresh pancakes, coffee served to table.. We had half board and were satisfied with the evening buffet, also. Enough variety, good standard. The pool bar served snacks for lunch and the baguettes, toasts and pizzas were good as well.

If you want to visit Nidri, the busses stop at a wave of a hand and the ride costs 1,60e. A taxi can be reserved from the reception and costs 8e. As many say, renting a car might be a good option, especially if you want to see and experience the whole island.

All in all, a very enjoyable stay.

Ps. If you fancy a good work-out with a breathtaking view up and down, then don't miss the morning light and the main stairs that go all the way from the private beach to the reception floor of the main building.;)

Room Tip: The resort is located on a hillside and there really are A Lot of Stairs, so prepare to lift and car...

As I planned our spring family holiday early in May, I looked for a hotel with spa and inside pool. Although this was one of the main reasons why I decided to stay in Porto Galini, I can't review the spa centre as due to the extraordinary hot weather, we didn't use the spa centre at all. Everything else can get the highest grades.

I booked an apartment which was in the renovated part of the hotel (actually, I think that all apartments are in this part of the hotel). We got a two storey apartment with 2 bathrooms and 2 huge terraces with a stunning view of the sea. My only complaint in the apartment were the pillows. On my request for new set of 4 pillows, I received 8, so I had plenty to choose from. But I think that new pillows have to be purchased.

The hotel has 2 large outside pools and a number of small pools, one of them suitable for babies and covered with a sun shade. The pools continue with large wooden platform which ends with a small pebble private beach, which can be problematic for children. But I have to say that the sea is extremely clean and beautiful, although this side is facing the mainland.

The food quality exceeds the 4* given to the hotel. Many choices of quality sea food, which I especially respect in Greece.

I would like to emphasize the children’s club in this hotel, and you have to take my word for this, as it comes from a 20 years of experience. This is the best, the cleanest, the most organized children club and under full control of Hara, who is not only taking care of the children, but tries to teach them something new during their stay in the hotel. Believe it or not, but my 8-years old daughter preferred to spend 2 hours in the club over the swimming in the pool.

To be completely fair to everyone working in the hotel, no complaints at all, they are all giving their best to make our stay comfortable.

The hotel is located in a small bay somewhere between Nikiana and Nydri, so you have to have a car if you want to move around. Find time to go on a boat trip from Nydri to the island of Kefalonia

Room Tip: The two storey apartments are perfect, children have a separate room and a separate bathroom which i...

I can highly recommend staying at Porto Galini. Our room was in the main building on the 2nd floor. Very happy with the size of the room, the cleanliness, the bed was very comfortable. Also there was a large furnished balcony with sea view. Breakfast was very good; cereals, fresh bread, eggs, yogurt - something for everyone. This location may be a problem for some as the main building is higher up on the hill and the building with the breakfast in located many steps down from there, in another building. We considered the many stairs back up to our room a good workout. There are two beautiful pools, tiered wood decks and many areas to sit and relax. We had no problem getting a chair and umbrella, there weren't many tourists when we were there. The beach is pebbly so bring some swim shoes. You can rent a boat just out front (if you have a license). The location requires a car, but this is the only way to see the island anyways. We never ate dinner at the hotel, instead we ate each night in Nidri at a wonderful taverna on the harbour. I highly recommend this hotel, we would definitely come back.

Room Tip: Choose the main building as it appears to be newer. A 2nd floor room provides a beautiful sea view...

The hotel offered exactly what I was looking for, quiet time and plenty of relaxation in beautiful surroundings. The standard rooms are average but comfy and lots of the rooms will get at least some of the magnificent view of the sea and the mainland mountains. I was lucky to stay all the way down in the last building by the sea, which was quiet with only a few other rooms. The pool areas and the beach were well taken care of, offering plenty of room for everyone.

The only downfall would be the distance to Nidri (approx 5 km, 3 miles). There are buses from Lefkada to Nidri that operate somewhat irregularly during the day. But you might want to rent a car for your stay anyway, there's much to see around the island and a car is really the best way to get the full experience.

I was travelling solo but it seemed like the hotel was a great destination for couples and families as well.

TIME: Easter time (3-6 May 2013) 3 nights
ROOMS: 3 families - 12 persons- 3 suites "andromeda" no.118-119-120 with 2 rooms each one, big balcony, excellent view!! the most amazing thing-the hit point- of our accomodation!!! wonderful gardens, well-keeped pools, bars, beach with sun-umbrellas, rocky, but lovely and quiet, absolutely picturesque..
PERSONNEL: nothing wrong, friendly staff, warm waiters, helpful reception desk, girls with a big smile, quick check-in or check-out
SPA: only for a few hours 10.00 to 13.00 free access to the heated pool- after there was an extra charge- the heated pool was cold in our visit , due to technical reasons, as we were told..
BREAKFAST:very good breakfast, great selection, fresh, quality products - even traditional greek deserts fron Chios island! -fresh orange juice! nice way to start your day...
DINNER: good enough, it could be upgraded, tasty food, but not great variety or big selection.
The mid-night dinner after the church on Saturday night was fantastic. By the pool, in a big rotonda table, well decorated, nice, tasty food.
The Easter lunch on Sunday noon was a big disappointment!!! Although we had made a reservation for 12 persons at 15.00, when we arrived nothing had been reserved!! We found a table with a waiter's help and we tried to be served by ourselves. No spoons, no napkins, no food or deserts at the trays in the buffet. Everything seemed to be random and unprepared. The waiters were tired. It was just 15.00 and the buffet would close at 16.30, but it was empty with a few left-overs, inappropriate for a celebrating easter lunch!!!!
PRICE: overpriced-I think- 200 euros/per night on H/B basis for a suite is expensive enough- this is a price for an 'all-inclusive' accomodation

Room Tip: rooms with great view in the "andromeda'' suites

A great hotel with fantastic facilities and whilst large enough to deliver quality - it still maintains a family owned feel.

The relaxed and warm atmosphere gave us a great two weeks, relaxing from the day of arrival.

I would fully recommend this hotel to anyone who enjoys quality at an affordable price!

Room Tip: All good - watch the stairs
