just spent two wonderful weeks on the beautiful island of skiathos. Stayed at the hermes hotel bus stop 13. Great location. Friendly helpful staff especially ratko and george. Fantastic food. First time to Skiathos but it certainly won't be our last. Fantastic

Our third visit to Skiathos and the Hermes, our previous visit was approx 6 yrs ago,not a lot of change tho new owners and a different chef, but the best and biggest change has to be the stairs on the left of the supermarket to the first level, the staff are all very friendly and helpful, they are in the process of converting what used to be reception/library into an extra bar and games room, almost finished while we were there.

Room Tip: we have requested a high room at the hermes on all three visits and we've always had a great vie...

This has been my seventh stay at Hermes in the last four years, often going twice a year if I can do. The location is beautiful, up a bit of a hill but lovely views from the top. The rooms are comfortable and cleaned every day, with fresh towels every couple of days. Chrissa the owner is lovely and very helpful and friendly should you need anything. George, Ratko, Joanna and the chefs at the restaurant/ bar are extremely welcoming and friendly and hardworking! The food is always excellent. I can't wait to return in September!

Like another reviewer I was extremely surprised at some of the very positive reviews for these apartments. We booked with Thomsons and although I realised that we had not booked a 5 star apartment I did expect a higher standard than that which we encountered at the Hermes.

The studio apartment was very basic with minimal utensils in the kitchenette. Towels are very old and only replenished on a weekly basis.

Our main complaint was the lack of hot water. We stayed for 6 days and in all that time I was unable to have a warm/hot shower. If you like washing your hair in cold water and returning from the beach with sandy clinging to you and being unable to have a warm shower-this is the place for you. Apart from the lack of hot water the way the owner would fob off our complaints was truly annoying. She would generally shrug her shoulders and say "I can't understand it". We never received an apology whilst we were there. We fared little better from Thomsons. Many of the other guests were experiencing similar problems.

We had no air/con for the first 4 days of our stay. The owner assured me it was working and just came on automatically. This was not the case. However on Day 4 her son came to the apartment to program the air/con and hey presto it started working. However we had endured 4 days without it despite his mother assuring us that there was nothing wrong with it!

Having complained everyday about the lack of hot water and with no possibility of a resolution we decided to move out after 6 days. We had booked an 11 day holiday and felt we had to salvage some of it. We moved into a hotel in Skiathos town which was inexpensive, centrally located and had hot water! We felt as though our holiday started when we left the Hermes.

The only positive thing I can think of saying about the place is that the restaurant is very good and the staff the owner employs are very pleasant. Don't stay there!

Room Tip: Book elsewhere!

We have just returned from a great week at the Hermes Appartments. The negative points....lack of hot water....this was eventually sorted but was quite annoying not to be able to rely on there being any....The Appartments are at the top of a steep hill just off the main road through the island. Its a fairly small complex with a good supermarket just at the bottom of the drive.Lovely pool,a supurb restaurant which serves right through from breakfast to dinnner. The omlettes are fab and the club sandwiches are really good value at @4 euros. The evening food is amazing. They put specials on a blackboard near the pool and have a great selection of dishes. They are all presented beautifully. There is resisdent chefs who cook everything fresh. The garlic bread here is the best we had ever had.Our room was the biggest I think. It slept up to 7 in 3 bedrooms.(room 3) The balcony had a great view, olive groves, the hills and the beautiful sea on the horizon. The rooms are not luxury. The furniture in them is a bit tired but the beds are comfy and clean. The maids come in most days and do the beds but the towels are a bit scarce in supply. The resident barmen George and Radoc(??) are fantastic and work so hard. They did;nt seem to sleep!! The cocktails are lovely and priced from 6/9 euros. They are a great team here and we really enjoyed our week here. The rep Wendy (Thomsons) was brill,we don;t normally go to welcome meetings but she was fantastic, really knowledgable and really good fun.I would recommend this hotel to anybody,as I said it is in a great position, not for the less abled people really as it is hilly.Well done Hermes,Miss George and his cocktails

Room Tip: Ask for high floor when booking. Most rooms overlook the front but there were some at the back overlo...

Iknow there are some things to quibble about - hot water not being hot,not very modern equipment in the studios but we love the place. Very friendly staff and good food and wine in the restaurant. A new coffee lounge with outside terrace has just opened and is beautifully furnished and staffed. Special mention must go to George the barman at the pool bar. Will be there in 2014

The apartments are basic. We had lack of hot water on a number of occasions, also dirty water both in the toilet & sink/shower, the wardrobe rail collapsed, curtain pole about to & there was no kettle and the safe didn't work.Having said all this we know what to expect when in Greece & apparently it was the first time the room had been occupied this year. One major downfall was lack of fresh towels-we only had 1 change in the week of our stay. We ate in the restaurant once and it was good (tried stifado) but nothing particularly special-Infinity Blue down the road, is much better in my opinion. The air conditioning unit worked automatically when the patio doors were shut which was a really good idea but it did not look clean! We have been to Skiathos before but not this area. Skiathos is a beautiful small island, lovely walks and many beautiful sandy beaches. The bus service is brilliant which runs every 20mins - this runs around the bottom part of the island covering 26 stops-Kolios is stop 13 so halfway to Skiathos Town and costs €1.60. Taxis will also stop whilst waiting at the bus stop and sometimes accept €2 per person. The reason I have given 3 stars is a little to do with the problems but also the fact we got a reasonable deal on our booking and I would not have wanted to pay the full price. Best closest beach is Vromolinos. Kanaspitsa, and Paraskevi, Alchades are also good & within walking distance, but all the beaches are pretty good. There is a steep slope to the apartments or a number of steps. Luggage is delivered by a van to the apartments & picked up for return & left at the Taverna by the airport for pick up. Skiathos airport is only small & is a case of 1 plane in 1 plane out.

Room Tip: The higher rooms are the best and have views but are not guaranteed even on request.
