“not much more to say”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 30, 2012

We stayed here in July. I have read previous reviews and they pretty much sum up. We had a spacious 2 bedroomed apartment, The double bed mattress was like lying on a rock. I had to fold up a quilt I found on the top of the wardrobe to lie on! Perhaps I'm a softy. We were constantly attacked by mozzies, which were abundant due to the hot weather and lots of foliage around. We had a bin and a bread knife and a huge fridge freezer. We didn't cook so I can't remember the facilities, and we enjoyed the many tavernas within walking distance, and bought lovely fresh rolls from the nearby supermarket for breakfast and snacks. We had a nice balcony to sit on. The tele was neither use nor ornament but I didn't want to watch it anyway. The bathroom was horrible - couldn't swing a cat, but was clean. There was nowhere to put toiletries or towels whilst having a shower other than on the toilet! (no shower curtain and hand held shower). Why do Greeks think this is acceptable? There was plenty of floor space to make a bigger bathroom. Apart from the moans we had a lovely holiday and would go again if I could be ensured a comfier bed! The grounds, bar and pool were all excellent, and 'the regulars' were all friendly.

A wonderful week spent at the Theodora Studios. I entirely agree with the excellent reviews submitted previously. Lovely pool, medium sized and the warmest one I have ever swum in. Studio was simple clean and just what you would expect in Greece. Peaceful and relaxing. The studios are a short walk from the main road, but even in temperatures above 35 degrees this was not a problem. We booked online so had a taxi to the apartments. If you book with one of the tour operators then you are dropped at the end of the lane and your luggage taken on a trolley. Maggie looked after the pool bar, with cheerful efficiency. Kolios is situated along the south facing coast and is on the main bus route (stop 15 in either direction).
** On reading the previous review I confess I am rather surprised. We were in 109 and it was what we have come to expect in Greek studios. No problem cutting bread as there was an adequate knife with serrated blade. I can't remember the last time I saw a plug in Greece. I would definitely return and 109 would not bother me at all.

Having also just returned from these appartments we also had a wonderful week on Skiathos.

We would def go back to these appartments. Now for the nitty gritty.

The kitchen equipment in appartment 109 was very scarce. I did ask for a bread knife, a plug or washing up bowl and a bin for kitchen area. None of which were available. So this appartment would be bad for some one who thought they wanted to cook and make meals etc.

We used the large sauce pan for washing up and left food peelings etc on a plate and the cleaners disposed of each day. I did not want to put this in the toilet bin with loo paper!!! Also I did not want to use a plastic bag as a bin each day in these eco friendly times. (Greece has just started recycling cans and plastic bottles so there is a start for all those who have swam next to lots of plastic on previous holidays in Greece)

Asked for a room away from bar and not ground level. We got a room away from bar and on ground floor. But this was fine. Room 109 was quiet and small compared to others I discovered, but had size ok for the 2 of us. Double bed, very strange cooker! But we never used it.

Kitchen equipment
3 mugs, two cereal bowls, 4 plates a sharpe knife and a cork screw. bread board friut wicker bowl. Kettle. A very LARGE cooking pan, (our washing up bowl) a frying pan. 2 glasses I think maybe 3.

No can opener etc. Glass bowl casserloe dish etc for use in fridge etc. Cooker was really a strange looking hot plate!

The pool could have done with better filtration and cleaning on the sides,( I am a serious swimmer so know my pools). This was a nice size dip pool and ok for kids and cooling off. Could do with a shower to shower before entering. The pool appeared green and when the side tiles were rubbed were found to be covered in sun tan oil . Water not dirty but better cleaning or more often was needed.

You want me to be honest don't you!

Location for the bus route excellent (Stop 15) and we also walked into town. Road a bit dodgey as no pavements and would not do with children but perfectly possible and can stop off at various beaches and walks etc. Plenty to do. Walked around peninsula from bus stop 12 to 13. Beach near stop 25 is good and 10 mins away taverna and quiet and sun all day with parasols and beds etc. Boats trips good. Island hopping and sea and sun excursions good.

Snacks at appartments good. Staff lovey, owners would wave dailey and greet, answer questions. Rooms, linen very clean. Perfect for quiet holiday. Bar area nice and all guests chatted dailey to eachother. Quizz night good and very good value for BBQ. Fun.

Supermarket very close down the lane 2mins walk. Stocked everything you would want. Very freindly.

Barmaid very nice. Good selection of holiday reads/swaps. lots of drinks and bar snacks for lunch.

Cosmos rep will give you a discount sheet for various bars/restaurants etc . Very good. recommend Jimmys Taverna at bus stop 16, along the road and less than 10 mins walk-we walked it each time we went. Easy in heels. Good idea to take a torch with you for dark road and so cars can see you. Lots of tavernas at stop 16.

Bus trip cost from stop 1 to 16 Euros 1.60. from 16 to 26 Euro 1.60. Pay each time you get off and no return tickets. So if going to 26, get on at stop 16 . Buses packed coming back from town in afternoon and also from the beach. hence we walked one day!!! Lots of taxis.

Sun beds on beach and brooly Euros 8.00 on all beaches.

Shops in Skiathos good. Lots of restaurants, tavrenas and normal tourist things. Jewellery shops good most with discounts and one with 30% off.

So all in all very good holiday. Sun was shining. We didn't want to eat in our room only, on,y had for fruit and yogurt for breakfast and were at beach all day. So non of the little things above effected us. But nice to be aware of before you go in case you want to bring plug etc or ask not to have room 109. Although it was cosy and patio secluded!!!

Room Tip: Ground floor rooms are good if not better thanl second and third level. Appear below ground leval a...

Having just returned from a wonderful week spent at the Theodora Studios I can only agree with the excellent reviews already submitted. Lovelly pool, medium sized and spotlessly clean. Studio was very nice, simple clean and perfectly adequate with a lovelly view over olive trees to the sea in the distance.
No loud noises, miusic or anything else to spoil the peaceful setting.
Gardens surround the studios, all nicely tended. The whole atmosphere lending itself to a relaxing holiday.
The studios are situated a short walk from the main road, however provided you have no walking disability this should not be a problem.
I never met the owners personally though I must mention Maggie who looked after the pool bar, an extremely helpful quiet lady who seemed to be the font of all knowledge regarding Skiathos. Several of the guests had visited Theodora many times and all spoke highly of her.
Kolios is situated mid way along the south facing coast and is perfect for visiting the many beautiful beaches that adorn the island. We hired a small scooter which proved to be a great way of getting around, however the bus service that follows the main road is simple to use and covers most of the beaches on the southern coast.
I would love to visit the Theodora Studios again, the sooner the better.

We chose Theodora because we wanted clean, simple self-catering accommodation with a pool which was close to a nice beach; Theodora ticked all the boxes for us. We travelled with Cosmos and were dropped off at the bottom of the hill on the main road so it's a 5 minute walk (mostly uphill) to Theodora. We had already read reviews so we were prepared for the walk, not a problem. On arrival, the Cosmos travellers were welcomed by Maria, her family and Maggie, the English lady who works there. We collected our cases (which had been delivered separately so no need for us to drag them up the hill with us, thankfully) and Maggie gave us our room numbers.
The apartments are simple but spotlessly clean. We did not intend to do any cooking, although you are provided with two electric rings, our main priority was to have a full-size fridge with freezer compartment for our drinks! We stocked up on alcohol (beer is cheap but spirits are not) from the nearby supermarket!
The beds are very firm and take a bit of getting used to, but we often find this to be the case in Greece. The beds have blankets on them, which we immediately removed as it was so hot that the lovely clean sheets were more than sufficient. There is air conditioning at a cost of 5 euros per day, plus a safety deposit box in the wardrobe at an additional cost of 10 euros for a week. The air con is well worth it!
Patio doors open onto a small balcony (we were on the middle floor of 3) and ours had a pleasant view of the lovely, well maintained gardens, although I believe the top floors have a sea view. There was a hair dryer in our room, which is unusual for self-catering, but I had already brought my own. Yes, as others have said, the bathroom is small and the shower is a bit of a nuisance because it is mounted on the wall at a very low height so if you're over 2 foot tall, you'll need to hold it! This was hard work whilst washing my hair, but not a huge problem so I wouldn't whinge about it. The water does overflow in the absence of a shower curtain, but again not a major issue for me. Unfortunately, I did have 3 or 4 cold showers during the course of the week as the hot water seems to run out when guests return during late afternoon/evening.
The cleaning staff do a wonderful job and everything is well taken care of, they even dried our dishes from the draining board which we didn't expect at all. You have to supply your own washing up liquid and are only supplied with a couple of toilet rolls, but this is often the case with self catering. There is a full size kettle, and it would have been good to have also had a toaster but this is just our personal preference. There is a wall-mounted TV which we never used because we can watch TV at home when it's raining!
The pool area is very pleasant and we were always able to get sun loungers even in July. There is a nice atmosphere and it's lovely to sip cocktails in the nice little bar area on the comfy seating and chat to visitors and staff alike. Kolios Beach, in our opinion, is nicer than Aghia Paraskevi. It is quieter, with only one row of sun beds, and has good facilities. We ate twice at Infinity Blue which is at the end of the road Theodora is on, so is very handy and one of the nicest places we visited. The view is fantastic (see separate review). We had our best meal at The Final Step in Skiathos Town - just amazing! (see separate review).
We would recommend the Island Hopping Trip to Skopelos and Alonissos, both of which are beautiful places with lots of photo opportunities.
One word of warning about the local buses on Skiathos - if you go in high season many of the peak time buses are packed full and you end up having to get taxis so the transport system isn't quite as good as it could be. The buses are old and many are not air conditioned so it gets unpleasantly hot and crowded on there, with no regard for health and safety with doors left open and people's faces pressed against the windscreen!
Skiathos itself is a gorgeous island and although we make it our policy never to visit the same destination twice (as there is so much of the world waiting our there) Skiathos does tempt us for a return visit. The scenery is stunning, the standard of restaurants is extremely high and there is so much beauty around you with fantastic blue sky...... what more could you want? Theodora is the ideal base from which to explore and, for us, was perfect for our needs.

Room Tip: High floor rooms will have the best views

This was our 10th year at the theodora studios i have never written a review before but felt i had to this year.if you have never visited skiathos before then the theodora is for you it is situated roughly in th centre of the island at bus stop 15 .The theodora is a family run studios with Maria Theodora Sofia and of course Maggie they are all stars in my eyes as nothing and i mean nothing is too much bother .The rooms are always clean and tidy the gardens are kept loveley and the bar area wear Maggie works is great she makes everyone welcome and it has friendly atmosphere. The bar snacks are made by Sofia she is fantastic and may i say the best cook on the island .The bbq night is great fun with a quiz and the chance to make life long friendships .so if you are thinking of holdaying on skiathos give Maria Maggie Sofia and family a try and you wont regret it it is beautiful.

As the other reviews have said, this accommodation is standard for what you expect in Greece. Pool was quite small but looked nice, pretty gardens and the pool bar was spacious. Bit of a problem when we arrived as room wasn't ready yet- not really forgivable since we didn't arrive until gone four o'clock.. Maggie was rather brusque about the situation, shrugging and saying "well the cleaners had a lot of rooms to do today"... if we had been offered somewhere to use the loo or have a wash we would have felt better but were just told to wait by the bar. A free drink might have softened the blow too as we waited forty five minutes. We did notice about six or seven other parties arrive shortly after and their rooms weren't ready either- not good enough, especially as one lady was quite heavily pregnant and I'm sure could have used a lie down! We are a young couple and when we go on holiday we like to see a bit of the place we're visiting so couldn't quite get our head round the many guests who seemed to pretty much sit round the pool the whole time, but each to their own! The atmosphere was quite cliquey and we didn't feel very welcome really but like I say we mostly went round the different beaches so weren't there much. There's a bit of a walk up a hill to it but we quite liked that to walk off all the food! Not an issue if you're of basic fitness. Food was nice at the pool bar but lots of fantastic restaurants and many very close by. If you've already booked Theodora don't be put off, it looks nice, the rooms are nice, and the staff are nice too- Maggie is a bit no nonsense but you get used to her and she will help out if you need anything. But Skiathos is so beautiful and there is so much to see other than the accommodation! Infinity Blue and Kochyli restaurants are lovely and our favourite beach was Eleni though the little bay at Kolios is very nice too.

Room Tip: We were on the ground floor and found we didn't need the air con as it stayed cooler down there...
