“Relaxation with perks”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 19, 2010

Great rooms with space and fully functional kitchen with dishwasher, washing machine, refrigerator, oven, and vitroceramic stovetop (top of the line appliances). They also provide minimal equipment for cooking such as plates, silverware, and some pans. There are two grocery stores within walking distance so cooking in is possible. The indoor pool and gym are great and included in the service. Staff very professional and always responsive when something was needed. The Hugo Beaty Lounge has good service with decent food so I recommend it for those want a quick bite or a drink. If you want true portuguese food at correct prices I recommend "Antonio" at porto de mos (lagos). The food at luz beach is overpriced. The exception was " Pashmina" which is Indian and was one of the best I have ever eaten. Highly recommend this one for relaxing at pool or beach. One note: the sauna is not working and does not look like they will be repairing it.

My partner and I were in Portugal for a friend's wedding and we stayed at the Estrela da Luz. When we first walked in I literally jumped up and down in excitement it was so big and clean. I was expecting the normal bed/bathroom/balcony, what we got was a full dinning area, Living-room, kitchen, double bedroom, bathroom with 2 sinks and 2 balconies.

Amenities: tv, radio, security entrance to hotel, electronic shutter locks on balconies.

It's a short walk to the beach, pubs and restaurant, perhaps a bit hilly for older couples or those with small children but personally I would stay here again in a heart-beat. Totally gorgeous and the staff were very friendly and helpful.

We stayed at the Estrela da Luz over New Year and had a fabulous time. We rented a 3 bedroom apartment which had an upstairs and downstairs. The apartment was beautiful, clean, very well furnished with all the latest mod cons. We used the gym which is very well equipped and the inside pool and spa (very relaxing). I would definitely recommend this hotel!

Absolutely would recommend - went for four nights with three kids - place was so clean and kitchen well done. Bathroom so clean and quality put together. Great pools (although would have been better is outdoor one for kids was heated) and super friendly staff. Super find.

This is a fabulous hotel with great facilities. we stayed in a studio apartment, which was suprisingly large with a very well equipped kitchen. We had a sea view/glimpse from our balcony and it also looked on to the well manicured gardens of the hotel. The studio was cleaned three times whilst we were there, the only issue we had was our patio door wouldn't lock so we had to keep the shutters down when we went out.

We used the adult swimming pool, which unfortunately some families clearly didnt understand, the clues in the name!! There was another pool for families to use but we found that several would just ignore the signs and come to the adult pool and let their kids scream and disrupt couples that wanted a bit of peace and quiet. That said the pool was lovely and warm and very clean. There was never a fight for sunbeds or parasols. Towels were provided.

My partner and I made good use of the gym and used it everyday. All the equipment is TECHNOGYM, which we use in our local club and we pretty much always had the gym to ourselves.

The staff were very friendly and even allowed us to stay on in our room past the 12pm checkout time for no extra cost. They always greeted us and were very helpful.

The location was just right, only a 5 minute walk into town/beach but just far enough away not to be noisy. The local supermarket (BAPTISTA) was a two minute walk away.

Would absolutely recommend this hotel to anyone!!

I am really surprised to read negative comments about this resort. I had a lovely holiday with my two children and could not criticise anything except some of the other bars in the town that are sometimes a bit expensive! The location is fabulous, and especially handy for dragging kids to the beach by foot. We organised some football training for my big boy (13). I am just looking to find updates about the Kid's Club, which I'm hoping to book for this year at this resort or one of the other too Oceanico Resorts in Luz. I think the most important thing is to feel safe and looked after on holiday, and this is why I'm going back.

Be warned this complex has gone downhill a lot over the past few years since we first stayed here.

Staff were surly and distant and the cleaning service was very poor and apartments are starting to look a bit shabby, old style tvs, worn looking sofas, dated decor.

Our biggest criticism was the poor pool facilities, inadequate for a complex of this size especially considering it wasn't even full. Plus Luz itself is a shadow of its former self as families still seem to be staying away, judging by the empty bars and restaurants.

We'll try somewhere else next time in Luz. Estrella has lost its edge.
