“Just the tonic we needed”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 5, 2013 via mobile

Estrela Da Luz is such a fantastic place, the apartments are just amazing they are spacious and there is everything you need in the kitchen to do anything you want even if you wanted to cook a Sunday roast
There is a dishwasher, washing machine, fridge, freezer, oven, hob and every utensil you need even a hand blender
Praia da Luz is a beautiful place with loads of history and an amazing church dating back to the 16th century which is well worth a visit even if you are not religious as it is spectacular inside
We would not hesitate to go back but book direct with the hotel and get your flights cheap with one of the smaller airlines
Estrela da Luz will organise you a direct transfer from the airport if you ask as its not very nice on the public shuttles you pay for as they often drop several other guests off at different locations and can take longer than the flights
5 Star place well worth a visit

Just returned from estrela da luz in Praia da luz, portugal. The rooms were amazing, absolutely huge and very very clean. The kitchen had everything you would need, plenty of everything, plates, glasses, wine glasses, cutlery, bowls, cooking utensils. The pillows weren't fantastic but the beds were ok. Plenty of beds around the pool for everyone, the only problem I thought was that the adult pool was always warm but the kids pool was always cold, bit strange and the sun was always on the top level were the adult pool was but children were it allowed in this pool at all, even when it was quiet and then you would get some awkward people complaining to the pool attendant if kids did go in, there was no need for that at all. The reception staff were ok, there was one who was very very rude and unpleasant to deal with but all the others were pleasant enough. The bar is run separately from the hotel and the staff are fantastic, everyone welcome and the food is amazing, not a great choice but always excellent food. The hotel doesn't offer any entertainment but the bar has a little disco music on most nights and they do a barbecue on Friday evenings with games and disco for the kids, great fun. The walk to the beach is about 10 mins all down hill and there are some lovely little bars and cafes on the way and also dotted around the little town. There is a good size spar about 5 mins away from hotel and a little supermarket just down the road from the hotel. All in all the estrela da luz is lovely in every way, my kids 17,15,9 all enjoyed it met so e great friends and really didn't want to come home, I honestly can not find anything really bad to say about the place because there is nothing, they cater for everything, indoor pool, outdoor pools, jacuzzi, gym, dance studio, spa, restaurant, bar, trips, local information, offers on days out and restaurants. It takes about an hour from the airport, very easy drive, we hired a car.

Room Tip: We stayed in room C3F, 3 bed, amazing sea views, with large balcony with table and 6 chairs, it was...

From the moment we arrived at this hotel, we felt we would be well looked after by a very friendly and helplul staff. Our appartment was brilliant with excellent mod cons and comfortable furniture, hairdryer, proper cooking facilities, proper fridge & freezer along with washing machine (washing tablets provided), dishwasher (again washing tablets provided) & microwave. Milk & water in the fridge, coupled with complementary coffee, tea and sugar was a welcome treat, and also the toilitries. Only negative was that sound proofing in the apartment wasnt great, particularly noise from the overhead appartment. However, management were at hand to address any disturbances. Was a little dissapointed that the restaurant by the adult pool bar was not opened. In saying that, excellent poolside management, ensured that the adult pool area was at all times monitored and confined to adult use. Absolutely loved the comfort and facilities provided (lounge area, bedroom, kitchen & bathroom). Also used the beauty salon and felt thoroughly relaxed after it. Would recommend and would definately stay here again.

We stayed with our 3 children during August and was very pleased with the complex which was clean and safe. We rented an apartment via Owners Direct which was of a very high standard and a great view over the pool and the sea. Used all the facilities with the children, swimming pools, tennis court etc. and only downside we felt was that the children's pool was a little too small for the number of apartments during high season as gets very busy and needed to get down early for a lounger by the pool. A downside of having to go during school holidays!
Great location as only a few minutes walk to some good restaurants and to the beach and if you have a car there are some wonderful beaches within a 20 minute drive.
Would definitely recommend the complex and would consider returning another year.

We arrived late in the day, following an evening flight. We were surprised that no one escorted us to our room, which was a little confusing especially given our late arrival. However, we were pleasantly surprised by our room which was clean, spacious and very comfortable. The sea view the next morning was also a nice surprise.

The pools were clean and adequately heated and there was enough sun beds. No annoying early risers reserving them for later which was a relief.

The only thing that spoilt our holiday is the attitude of some of the staff after a particularly nasty fall I had on the wet stairs. Not wanting it to happen to anyone else I immediately reported to reception, still upset after my accident. Never once did she ask how I was or if I needed first aid. There was a first aid box in the room which was empty apart from cotton wool!! When the cleaners came they were concerned about the swelling and asked if I needed a doctor. I didn't think it was necessary as it wasn't cut or broken but felt it best to see a first aider. I had no option but to walk to reception and ask for an ice pack and showed the male receptionist my arm. He directed me to the bar for some ice as he didn't have one but what most upset me was his lack of empathy as he could clearly see I was upset and sore. Clearly they need some lessons in customer services. Such a shame as this was of the nicest apartments I've stayed in.

My wife and I stayed a week at Estrela Da Luz and were not disappointed. The apartment was modern and great in size, the pool was good, only problem we found is that if you went to the pool after 11am then you may struggle to get a sun lounger however we got to the pool earlier than this so didn't have any issues.
Its a short walk into Luz where there are some fantastic restaurants and bars. We will certainly be going back to this hotel.

The apartments are a good size with all mod cons.
The apartments could have been cleaner though,
cleaning consisted of moping the floor on odd days no routine,in the two weeks we stayed there the
apartment was never dusted, sheets and towels changed infrequently.
stay clear of the cafe, drinks are very expensive.
The balcony was a good size for sun bathing but unfortunately the sun beds were in bad repair.
The staff in the reception area were very help full if you had a problem.
The gardens are well kept and pleasant to look at,the swimming pool area had no character and could have done with some music or something to liven it up.
