Great grilled sardines and house rose. Brilliant view of the beach in January sunshine. A real treat.

“Perfect location for all seasons”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2014

We have had many special celebrations in this restaurant since it became The Galley, some good, some just ok, but we always go back when we visit Luz for a cool beer in the summer months or a warm coffee this time the year as the view is ever changing with the seasons. Can really recommend the breakfasts and the set lunch, which changes every day, and having noted other comments I did point out to the staff that the sign really should stipulate lunch offer only. The present staff have been there a while and are really pleasant but yes do seem slow on occasions but we now pick our time to stop there.

“Lovely setting, overpriced”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 31, 2013

Having visited before, we decided to pop in in December, the wood burning stove was roaring and looked very inviting.
Sadly, the main course wasn't great, it was a decidedly average poorly cooked steak. Staff were lovely but the Galley really is very overpriced, their set lunchtime menus seem good value for money so if you're going to try the galley I would recommend lunchtime. Not the experience we had hoped for.

“Very expensive view!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed December 9, 2013

We have previously reviewed The Galley back in February after celebrating my 50th birthday, we had nothing but praise then. Oh how things have changed!
Service is non existant, waited for 20 mins before they came to take our drinks order, then a further ten or fifteen mins for the drinks to arrive, food orders taken and we waited at least 45 mins for the food to arrive. The food was tasty but not worth the wait. When we came to pay the bill a huge shock was in store for us. The house wine requested by the litre was then charged by the glass! Hence two litres of wine cost almost 50% of the bill for a party of seven! Even when challenged over the cost of the wine the staff were not bothered and offered no apology. We as a group are staying in Portugal for six months and would have been regular visitors due to location.
We will never return to The Galley.

“lovely position”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 22, 2013

Overlooking the promenade in Praia da Luz in a lovely position with views over the beach, this place is quite spacious with both indoor and outside seating.
We ordered a salad and a chicken Piripiri, but unfortunately, although it was not busy in November, we waited ages for our food, with other people seemingly served quickly.
The manager came and apologised for the delay, but didn't explain why. We came to the conclusion it was because they'd run out of chicken and had to go top a local farm to get one (it was really that long a wait !) . We wished we'd ordered the lunchtime offer which was £14.50 for 3 courses, which was enjoyed by the people at the next table.
