“A real gem of a taverna”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 25, 2012

Tolis and his family have been in the restaurant business for decades and this really shows in the quality of the food he serves and the friendly service from him and his wife Afroula, with the occasional help of his mother Soula when needed. The grilled meats are superb, crisply basted and marinated on the outside and melt-in-the-mouth delicious on the inside. There's a good range of starters and salads including Tolis' Special Salad which is virtually a meal in itself, but our favourite was grilled cheese on a bed of green leaves and tomatoes dressed with balsamic - yummy!

The taverna's location isn't the best in Loggos but if you can tear yourself away from the seafront views you'll find excellent food at amazingly good value. Hearing local accents is always a good indicator of a hidden gem and one night we sat next to a party which included the Mayor of Paxos, so there cannot be a much better recommendation than that!

“This vegetarian loved Tolis Grill House”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2012

My husband and I returned often to this taverna off the harbor front for a variety of reasons. The location in a little plaza off the main drag and by a small church courtyard lent a sense of authenticity and a chance to actually hear the Greek language in use by the patrons. Kids living on the island apparently used the plaza to ride their bikes and play catch games and the adjacent pizza and ice cream shop was an evening hang out for the men of the island.
The prices at Tolis also reflected the sincerity of the owners. In most cases, the tab for two people at this taverna was significantly under 30 euros as compared to 40-50 euros in other spots, and the food certainly did not suffer. I don't eat meat but my husband does and he enjoyed the dishes he chose. I enjoyed the ubiquitous Greek salad but also traditional stuffed tomatoes and a very good grilled feta and spinach stuffed red pepper. The appetizers like the zucchini balls were also up to snuff. in addition, Tolis stocked a lovely and fresh beer from a microbrewery in nearby Corfu, Corfu Beer Real Ale. My only complaints were the fried potatoes which, like most in Paxos, were on the soft rather than crispy side (though this may be a matter of taste). All the members of Tolis team-- his wife, Afroula, his mom, Soula, the two chefs and assistant were gracious and genuine in their interactions with us (and we had interactions with them all!) and provided another level of intimacy in what should always be a special and tailor-made experience: the meal.

“Go to this friendly taverna for the food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 12, 2012

Loggos is the most picturesque port on Paxos and most of its restaurants are on the harbour-front, with good views. Some of these restaurant put on airs and graces, their food is a little disappointing, over-internationalised, perhaps, and the prices seem a little high. Some are rather too close to the road through the village and the car emissions detract from the enjoyment of the food. But step off the harbourside near the abandoned soap factory and find Tolis Taverna in its narrow street, a dozen tables set out on decking, next to a tiny church with scented flowers beyond its railings, and a resplendent, tumbling bourgainvillea growing to the roof of the houses on the other side of the restaurant, and you will discover a traditional taverna with good food in abundant portions, reasonably priced. Tolis' mother, Sula, directs the tiny kitchen, serving up daily specials as well as the stock fare of Greek cooking, to her own recipes. Tolis Taverna specialises in grills and roasts. Through the kitchen window you can see the lamb or kid turning on the spit; the sliced roast meat is served tender with chips. Try the lamb chops, perhaps, eight or ten of them (small, on the bone) in a portion, grilled on an open fire. Or a kebab of pork cubes, salted and burnt on the outside, crunchily offsetting the tender sweetness of the perfectly cooking inner meat. Quaff from a simple jug of house wine. Start the meal with an appetiser of grilled vegetables served with an oil, balsamic vinegar and honey dressing; or deep fried zucchini balls. Tolis will probably offer your dessert as a gift at the end of the meal. Finish the evening and continue your good mood by strolling back for the night, past all those diners on the seafront who have unknowingly not had such a good meal as you but spent more. Sigh with contentment at the good life you are living.

“good cooking”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 30, 2012

Tolis doesnt have a view of the sea as it is up a wee back street in loggos. However the small kitchen produces superb food. There are daily specials as well as the menu. (Stuffed mushrooms and the onion pie are fabulous). Everything is cooked to order so settle back with a jug of wine the evening ahead and enjoy the traditional fare. If you are wanting something fast they also do traditional giros. Perhaps not as fancy as some of the Tavernas on the front, but the food I think makes a trip here well worth it. As with all the restaurants around Loggos, excellent friendly service. Afterwards pop to the four seasons cafe next door for the best coffee in Loggos.

“A back street Greek experience in an enchanting fishing village”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 4, 2011

20 m from the little port and the famous street where you have to move your chair and table when the local bus tries to go through, Tolis became one of our local traditional Greek restaurant. The owner will advise us how to build your evening meal with sharing plates and lamb/pork on the spit. Definitely not a posh place you could be attracted to, if you want to stay in your comfort zone.
