“5th time at the Sunshine !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 29, 2013

So this was my 5th holiday at the Sunshine and I always hope that things haven't changed but things HAD changed this year ! The family that run the Sunshine have obviously worked very hard over the winter - the grounds had been 'landscaped', there were lots of new interior design things ( curtains / drapes / the lobby had had a 'makeover' ) and much to our surprise the bathrooms on the upper floors have been completely redone and are now beautifully tiled, have modern suites - and have an amazing shower ! What a surprise !

Please remember that when you book the Sunshine you are paying about £6 per night per person. This buys you a lovely large clean room ( cleaned daily ), a very modern bathroom, electricity, hot water, free Wi-Fi by the pool, fresh towels / sheets twice a week and a fresh and adequate breakfast ( roll, butter, jam, hot drink, orange drink - if you want other things they are available at a SMALL price ), a clean pool and plenty of sun loungers.

The hotel restaurant serves freshly made food which is very reasonably priced. The hotel bar serves a great selection of drinks and the prices are less than those in the surrounding bars. The pool bar serves freshly made lunches and snacks.

The family and staff at the Sunshine work non-stop and could not be nicer or more friendly.

Air-con was a must for us and is about 7 euro per night. Electricity is EXPENSIVE in Greece.

The hotel is a few mins walk from the beach and there are plenty of supermarkets nearby ( the one next door stocks EVERTHING you will need ).

We went into Lardos one evening and had a FANTASTIC meal at Roulas - turns out that Roula is Popi's niece !

Whilst we were there - there was a party of family members over from the USA for a wedding. It was great to 'share' this experience and see Popi heading off to the wedding looking very glamorous.

If you are looking for a clean and friendly hotel and a quiet relaxing holiday this place will suit you fine. We were delighted to catch up with some old holiday friends and make some new ones. Just sorry that we missed some people that we met last year because they went a week earlier !

All in all another AMAZING holiday at the Sunshine and I look forward to returning.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back are quieter and overlook the mountains and goats !

First time we have stayed at these apartments and can thoroughly recommend them. They are very clean and the room we stayed in 210 had the best shower and bathroom we have ever had in Greece. The shower had a proper cubicle and the shower head had a proper attachment to the wall. The shower was hot in the evenings but cool before the sun came up but perfectly usable. The family that own this treat you as though you are one of the family and thanks go to Popi, Demitry, Peter, Stephen and Alex for making our stay wonderful. The breakfasts consisted of a bread roll, butter and jam, orange juice and coffee or tea...perfectly adequate. You could by extra from an extensive menu. A full English was only €5. The pool was very clean and didn't leave you smelling of chlorine or tasting of salt. Sunbeds were plentiful and bar service was efficient. Will be definitely returning !

We have just returned from 2 weeks with Popi and her family who run Sunshine Hotel. We went B&B as it was a lot cheaper than self catering. Popi did show us the sc apartment and it was lovely hence the difference in price, maybe. However our room was very good, kept spotless by the cleaners with sheets changed twice a week; and at the back so nice and quiet most of the time. Except when the complex further down was having a Kareoke night.
The family are so friendly and nothing is too much trouble. We visited the restaurant 2 years ago just for meals and then my son went last year to stay and said it was great, therefore we followed suit.
Breakfast is of a continental type (not croissants - as a fellow guest pointed out), roll, butter, jam, orange drink and tea or coffee included in the price. But you can buy a full English for 5euros or bacon rolls, scrambled eggs, fruit, yog and honey, all lovely.
The pool is perfectly clean and clear with very comfy sunbeds all around and a small bar near to hand with tables in the shade to eat your lunch at if you so wish. The Greek salad is very filling!! and Peter's iced coffees are the best!
The other advantage is that it is right opposite the bus stop which will take you all the way to Rhodes town for 5.50E one way, or any of the towns like Pefki or Lindos en route.
Or in the other direction to Lardos, Kiotari, Gennadi and eventually Prasonisi.
We shopped at the supermarket almost next door and the owners there are extremely helpful and friendly with a good selection of food. We tended to eat some lunches in our apartment just of feta and rolls, ham, retsina etc. A travel kettle is useful and a couple of plastic plates are a good idea if you want to do this.
Somebody complained that there was no toaster or kettle in the sc apartment, but he was supplied with a kettle when he asked. We have never had a toaster in any sc apartment we have been to in Greece over the years. Greeks do not eat toast, so why would they.
The local beach is a 5 min walk away and the Elvita bar next to it is good for food etc with the sunbeds being 3.50 each with a parasol. Although the beach is very shingley and not easy to get into the sea if you have sensitive feet.
There are some good eateries in Lardos (2km) like Valentina's and Bo Jangles. Also there are loads in Pefki to suit all pockets and tastes, plus the beach is sandy and the beds etc are 8 Euros.
If you need a car go to George's down the road, 85E for 3 days for a Toyota Aygo.
Steven in the bar makes some wicked cocktails, try the Mojito and Melon Daquiri.
I have just seen the comments by Liz W about the group that were there, as we caught their last week and I agree to the bit about the games in the bar, not what one really wants in Greece, but this group have been meeting there for the last 15 years and twice a year at that, which rather tells you something, doesn't it? Many of the people we met there are returners.
What more can I say, a brilliant holiday all round, made all the more pleasing by the stay at this lovely place.

Room Tip: Ask for one at the rear of the hotel, less road noise at night and nice views over the 2 small mount...

Just returned home from our third trip to the sunshine hotel. Glad to say, very little change. Quite simply a quiet, peaceful resting time. We are in our mid 50's and a couple in their early 20's asked to come with us. I was a bit worried it might be too quiet for them, but they loved it. We did take them over to Pefkos one night for a bit of a "lively" time, which was great fun. Short bus/taxi ride away.Yes, breakfast is continental, bread roll with jam, glass of orange and cup of tea or coffee. No cooking facilities or kettle (we took our own). Rooms basic bit spotlessly clean. Wonderful friendly family owners. Worth every penny. Looking at going again later in the year. If not, then will be back next year for sure.

Room Tip: Rooms at front of property get more sunshine. Rear of property rooms a little cooler, but on the low...

We did not stay at this hotel but we had two meals in their restaurant which were both excellent the staff were very friendly and the food gorgeous, don't know the name of the waiter (we had the same one on both visits here and he was lovely), gave the dads a shot each and the mums a strawberry cocktail after the meal which wasn't on the bill at the end, six people had starters mains and a drink each and it came to seventy euros which was a bargain price for the quality and quantity of food that we had, we were staying at a nearby all inclusive hotel and would have happily left there to eat here at popis every night it was so good would definitely return here if in the area again

I was there last week and up until Thursday, it was a lovely quiet and relaxing holiday. Then the regulars arrived who seemed to take over. Instead of the quiet dinners we had experienced, we were disappointed to have to put up with a "working man's club" atmosphere with poor singing, bad jokes over a microphone and requests to buy into "Play you Cards Right" at €1 each (which wasn't won during our stay). We only went for 1 week but, if we had stayed for two, then we would not have dined there in the evening for the second week. Other than that, the family were very friendly and the service was good, the room was clean and the food excellent.

Came here on a last minute deal in August 2013, you get what you pay for. Friendly family run hotel. Quiet area but close to other places like Lindos which is beautiful, you can get there by bus and its pretty cheap.
Only disppointment was the breakfast, which was a bread roll and jam. The transfer from the airport to the hotel was quite a distance too.
Otherwise I thoroughly enjoyed this holiday And would love to go back.
