“Excellent hotel in an ideal location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2008

We stayed at Costas & Mary in August and had a brilliant holiday. The hotel is extremely clean (the rooms are always cleaned to a very high standard) and the communal areas are immaculate. Although the hotel is situated only a few minutes from the airport, you hardly hear the planes. The pool area is lovely, with sufficent sunbeds (with cushions) and umbrellas and a lovely bar area (seats in the shades), which is cheap! The rooms have a balcony and washing line (the beds could do with being a bit softer and a fridge would be a welcome addition).
The hotel is sitauted only 5 minutes from the 'new' harbour and is in a quiet location. It is the ideal location to explore Skiathos Town (which has two lovely harbours and lots of resturants, tavernas and shops). It is also the place to catch the bus to all the beaches and catch a separate white minibus to the monestary (well worth a visit). The harbour is ideal for catching boats or water taxis to the beaches. We caught a boat to Tsouragnia Island, which was well worth it (lovely snady beach with crystal clear water and a taverna).
There are a number of resturants in Skitahos Town (serving a wide range of cuisine). The Windmill is expensive but well worth a visit for excellent food and views (do need to book). 1901 serves excellent food and Plakes serves excellent food with lovely views.
There are lots of bars (happy hour from 6:00pm - 9/10:00pm) and Rock & Roll (sit on cushions) is well worth a visit.
All in all an excellent holiday

We have just returned from Skiathos and Both had a great time.Costas and Mary Hotel is lovely, very clean and perfect location. In my opinion its not suitable for kids,as its very quiet.Perfecy for couples though.Location was spot on as we prefered to be 2 minutes walk from Skiathos town in the evening and take a water bus, taxi or bus in the morning out.
We had a car hire which was great fun. Also we hired a little boat from the marine shop down club strip. This turned out to be our best day,The lovely old sea dog who we booked with is a great character and so interesting to chat with (Dont shake his hand though its a crushing experience!!)Its so easy with the boat and highly recomend it,We circled the island and stopped at remote beaches.
Best place to relax was at the round windmill thing down club strip with a cold drink.

Our first trip to skiathos , got the deal cheap and with a 3 star hotel in Greece we where not expecting much . How wrong we where . Mary met us off the coach and walked us down a dusty lane , before entering through a gate into the hotel , The cleanliness of this hotel was superb and puts many higher star hotles we have visisted to shame , The rooms where spotless as was the whole hotel , pool , bar area , gardens . Mary treats the whole hotel as an extension of her own home . Breakfast though simple , is an experince in its self with entertainment provided by the two girl helpers which brings everybody together and starts the day off with a laugh. Rooms are serviced daily with clean towles and bedding seemed to be changed almost every day .
A short 5 min walk finds you on the sea front , and you can then walk into the resort proper . Bars and restaurants and everywhere , just keep following your nose and you will find another and another , some of the more trendy bars towards the fish market are just great to spend a couple of hours on an evening people watching .
During the day the bus service is easy and regular or just jump aboard one of the many boats that sit in the habour to either go for a couple of hours or a whole day .
There are a good selection of shops to browse around and the people are just so helpful and friendly .
overall a great holiday with only a single problem , The beds where a little on the hard side , but so clean you can forgive them . I would certainly return to costas @ Marys and would recomend it to anyone looking for a no frills holiday .

Hotel Costas & Mary is a small hotel set in the a lovely garden, it is spotlessly clean and is only a short walk to the town of Skiathos.
If you want a quiet, formal type of hotel then this is not for you, but if you want a family run, happy, informal hotel, where you can have a laugh with the family and girls, where after an evening meal you can come back and chat about what you have done and where you have dined over a few drinks and a hot chocolate with old and new friends, then this hotel is for you.
At breakfast Clotilde, one of the girls who assists Mary, may sing to you or be a little cheeky, but we have never found her rude or offensive in anyway, in fact she has always been very helpful to us, a lovely girl. Maybe if you are a sensitive or not a morning person then she could well be a little over the top.
Our room (101) was on the ground floor overlooking the gardens and bar pool area and we were never disturbed by any noise. We always kept the doors shut at night because of the mosquitoes, we both react badly to bites and stings.
Lunch Time
Mary will make you a delicious salads, bacon and eggs, yoghurt, fruit & honey to die for and much more.

Favorite Restaurants
Plakes …. Excellent food………… lovely views
Amfiliko .. Excellent food………… lovely views
1901………..Excellent food
Dino’s …….. Good food and a friendly welcome from Dino and his wife Rula
Meja Gialos….Fantastic views, much recommended Soutzikakia, delicious, We also had cooking lessons form Mamma & Daphne………. Hilarious.
Old Port Inn, a friendly welcome………. Lovely pub, Mythos ,2 euros for a large glass, the owners are a lovely Yorkshire couple.
Open Air Cinema
Try the open air cinema a unique experience!
Recommended Walks
We do a lot of walking around the island.
Walk up the donkey tracks to Evangalistra Monastery
Walk to Castro……. A long way but very rewarding…….. lunch at the taverna on the beach, very Swiss Family Robinson.
Kekria is across the north of the island, lovely views across the mainland, lots of deserted beaches but they are difficult to reach.
We always call at the bakery for sandwiches cakes and water, for a picnic…..fantastic!
We recommended this hotel to our best friends, and they have returned 4 times, we have been 12 times.
We would recommend this hotel to anyone who likes a friendly, family run hotel and enjoys to mix with people of different ages and backgrounds.
The island can be difficult for people with disabilities, but can be done. We have pushed a relation round the town on 3 different 2 week holidays. It was hard work on the uneven surfaces and you are restricted to accessible places only. But we had a lot of laughs along the way.
