We visited Alexandros on our second night in Skiathos and didn't return as there was no way to top our first visit. When we arrived at about 10pm the whole courtyard was full, however they reassured us they could get some more tables out and we were seated with 5 minutes, as were many other late comers we saw throughout the evening and it was well worth the wait.
Firstly I must describe how lovely the setting is. Without the views boasted by some of the other Skiathos Taverna's it has bags of character with its nicely lit courtyard with stunning buildings and a real authenticity given by the four old chaps on the guitars situated in the corner. They were a constant fixture at just the right volume to add to the atmosphere without interrupting conversation.
The food is very classic Greek fare without fancy flourishes or piped balsamic vinegar, so don't come expecting a stylised plate of art. However the quality of ingredients is clear, with baked feta, halloumi and roasted veg, beef stifado and mousaka all really tasty. My only criticism of the food (or in fact any of our evening) would be that the mousaka was only luke warm in the middle. This was soon forgotten when they brought us the most delicious yoghurt and black cherry compote!
Now to the staff, well despite being rushed of their feet they were extremely efficient and professional always looking around to make sure you were sorted and not sat without a drink or with empty plates. It is very clearly a family run establishment which is lovely to see.
I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending Alexandros to others and am surprised to see other people have not had the same wonderful experience. I would rate this higher than Lo&La in a heartbeat. Don't bother with a 'Greek' night on Skiathos, visit Alexandros instead.
