“Quiet Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2013

Lovely family owned apartments in a quiet location. Our spacious studio had a well equipped Kitchenette, hard beds that you get used too, a needless TV and excellent air conditioning at 7 Euros a day. The rooms could have been cleaned once more a week. The bar and pool area were in a very peaceful setting and cleaned daily. The Sunday BBQ had excellent food, was good value at 12 Euros each and catered well for vegetarians. Kostas and Mary were very keen to ensure our happiness. These apartments have very many return visitors due its location and hospitality. A choice of six different beaches are available within a 25 minute walk. The only downside of the location was the the dusty track that had to be used in the 5 minute walk to get to the main road by Bus stop 23. During our stay in early July Mosquitos became a major aggravation.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2013

We have just returned after two weeks of another brilliant holiday in Skiathos. This is the first year we've stayed at Eliso, and it is just as good as when we stayed at Magda, it's nearest neighbour. The only real difference being that Eliso has a pool bar.
The rooms were large, airy and clean. The beds at eliso I have to say were rock hard, which isn't really to our taste, and if I had any real criticism that would be it. The kitchen equipment is adequate but basic as you'd expect. A TV and a digital box which we didn't use. This is the first year we have used the A/C which isn't cheap at 7 Euros a night and ironically was probably the first year we could have done without.
The weather was very good, hot during the day, but because of two massive thunderstorms the evening heat never got that oppressive. We been in Skiathos before witnessing the storms, never have we had two massive ones in a fortnight, and the rain was incredible, the first time I've seen massive puddles that took days to evaporate, but rainy one minute, scorching sun the next.
The owners of Eliso couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful. They are Savas and Mary, who are the main customer contact, and their English is perfect, far better than my attempts to speak Greek.
On our first night tired from travelling we were going to bed near to midnight when we had electrical problems in the studio, and could smell electrical burning, with fuses blowing. Savas called out an electrician who arrived promptly, and worked fast, he isolated the problem got everything going, returned the next day and completed the job when we were out. Savas was genuine in his concern, and very apologetic and he compensated us with a free BBQ on the Sunday. Talking of electrics and similar if you're a health and safety inspector don't go to anywhere in Greece for your holidays, their standards and regulations shall we say aren't the same as ours in the UK.
The BBQ was fantastic great value for money at 12 Euros each, and there was loads of really nice food.
On a general point don't expect a cheap holiday, prices have gone up, in some cases quite a lot. Being sad I gauge the changes on the price of beer. Over here in the UK we are one of the most heavily taxed on things like our beer, so we pay about £3.50 a pint here, around the island prices vary but you'll pay on average 3.50 Euros for 500ml, pretty much the same price as home. The food in the Tavernas is generally good, and again prices vary but prices are on the way up. When you speak to anyone they all use the excuse that it is the fault of the Euro increasing their costs, I'm not entirely convinced, I think some (not all) are getting as much as they can before the bubble bursts. It's not unusual to see very expensive SUV's with cigar smoking Greeks driving along speaking into their iphones.
When we first started visiting Skiathos the smaller resorts we prefer were humming the Tavernas were full to bursting, now the resorts are quiet and lots of tables empty. I suspect there may be many reasons, but I don't believe a hike in prices will attract more custom.
Having said all that I will for the time being continue to visit Skiathos, and hope the hike in costs will reduce, as the place is lovely, and the people are great. If you're prepared to budget and watch your spending you can still have a cheapish holiday, but I think holidays are about letting go and saying what the heck, but even I am now thinking, maybe we'll have a takeaway Gyros and a bottle of beer from the supermarket.
Wasps and huge bitting flys, take a swatter and some cream. They seem to target you on the beach especially if the wind/breeze is low or non-existent.
Plenty of mossies about, some people get more affected than others, take high strength Deet.
I must say something about the baggage delivery and collection system, I understand why they have to do this, because some places like Elios are off the main road, impossible to arrive directly outside with a coach, and it would be awkward to drag your cases along some of the tracks. The cases are loaded into open back trucks, with probably no more finess than is provided by the airport personnel, but what concerns me is the whole process is built on trust which is fine until it goes wrong. You lose sight and control of your luggage at first the airport on arrival, and then when you depart the luggage goes before you, and you are reunited with it as a huge luggage pile in the airport taverna. Who looks after the luggage in your absence? The taverna owner keeps an eye on it....how does that work, how the heck does he know whose case is whose, and who is allowed to collect it, open it etc. The very least the tour operators should provide is a dedicated secure area with a dedicated employee maintaining a visual. Just a thought, hopefully it will never happen, but there are thieves everywhere in the world, and people that might prefer if you carry something in your luggage rather than them!
All said and done we will without doubt revisit Skiathos and indeed Elios in the future.

Stayed at the Eliso from 18 June for two weeks. Although we didn't ask for it we had a lovely one bedroom apartment, very spacious with a well equipped kitchen, better than other self catering we have had. Kostas and Mary and Mary's parents were lovely. Our apartment and communual areas were kept beautifully clean and clean linen every other day. (great fluffy towels too) It was a very relaxing holiday, we met some really nice people and would not hesitate to go back. It was my husband's 60th birthday whilst there and Kostas and Mary made it a bit special on bar-b-q night by putting up balloons and bringing out a cake with candles. Very thoughtful.

Room Tip: One bed apartments are no. 7 & 8

This was our third time to these apartments. We still love them and recommend them but this year our holiday was spoiled somewhat by WASPS.!!

There were hundreds of them floating in the pool..No fault of the apartments of course but one day I attempted to scoop them out of the pool,as it was hot and I was in need of a cool down dip. There wasn't anyone from staff to do this and I felt a little let down. When Costa's came on duty,he simply put on the pool filter and the jaccuzi and the wasps seemed to flee from the water. So take that as a tip.

The salads were just as good and the staff as friendly as ever.

We hired our usual jeep from Mustang at the bottom of the track.140 euro's for 4 days.Unfortunately we were accused of breaking a clip on the roof.As it had rained for four days during our jeep hire,we didn't even attempt to remove the roof, never even touched the clip.We can categorically say that we did not break it.On return of the vehicle, the clerk went straight to the broken clip,as if she knew it was broken and tried to stitch us up.It took phone calls to head office in the town before they agreed not to charge us for repair. We was furious and it certainly spoiled my day.If you do hire from these people, check the vehicle for damage etc.It was even a very tatty jeep !!!

Room Tip: Ask for a balcony room, leave the windows open and plug in mossie plugs, to avoid air con charges and...

Great location, quiet, beautifully kept - nice pool area with plenty of sunbeds. Food is really good in the poolside snack bar. Apartments very clean and in good condition. Have tried other accommodation in Skiathos but this is by far our favourite.

We stayed in the ground floor 1 bed room apartment for four. The staff were polite and friendly. The room was not as clean as we would have expect as the bins were only emptied every other day and on one occasion it was the third day . The bedding and towels were changed twice weekly. The kitchen area was small and there was very little kitchen equipment (cork screw, chopping board, can opener) or food preparation surface. We have stayed in Skiathos for the last 8 years and the position of the apartments were ideal for the beaches around Koukounaries and the bars and restaurants.

this was our first time to skiathos, 2 week stay and staying at eliso studio & apartments was an ideal place to start ,the room / apartment was very clean and plenty big enough for two, very clean as the maid came in everyday except sunday. there is a good pool and bar, and the staff are very friendly also stavos the owner is there to help,we sat most evenings speaking and having a drink with him and his family when we came back late (11 ish) shame none of the other guests stayed up they all came back and went straight to bed.
REMEMBER TO WEAR GOOD MOSQUITO REPELENT AS THEY ARE EVERY WERE
being at eliso apartments is also a good base the local store is only 5 minutes walk away along with bars and resturants (BIG BAD WOLF, STROFILIA, LLIAS ORCHARD, STAMELOS TAVERNA & AGUSTERA BAR i will review these seprately).
if you wish to travel to skathos town the bus stop 23 is also the same 5 minutes walk as all the resturants /bars are on the main single skiathos road just to warn you the bus gets very crowded( bit like sardines) but is great value at only 2 euro per person to town, but if your not up to being squshed and sweaty there are taxis that you can flag down just get the price before you get in.
also remember if you hire a car/jeep there is zero tolerence to drink driving so if someone bumps into you it could be a longer stay than you thought (jail) its not worth it as there is one road on one side of the island and even the beaches on the other side you can only get to via boat.
walking distance to the main koukounaries beach which is approx 20 min through a gate next to the bus stop and just follow the path throught a second gate by the side of a river over the bridge (hopefully seeing the two black swans) and your there.
and mandraki beach is approx 25 mins going the other side of the island going along a very sandy path through the pine forest this was our favorite beach less busy but still with a taverna which you could buy food and drink.

Room Tip: all rooms are good just very hot so recommend having air conditioning
