“Relaxing stay in peaceful resort”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2013

Upgraded to villa room in the gardens. Each villa is brightly coloured in a Portuguese style. Rooms were a little tired (needed a lick of paint) but they were very comfortable.

Pool was huge with lots of comfy sunbeds and the buffet breakfast had a good selection of international and Indian food.

Its a short walk to the beautiful beach where there are many beach shacks serving fresh seafood and cocktails.

Overall a pleasant stay in what I think is a four star hotel - 5 star is too high - but the prices were 4* so we were very happy with the choice!

Room Tip: I think the rooms in the main building have a poor review so request or upgrade to a villa room.

Cons:
1) We booked Superior Room that appeared to be in Main block which hasnt been renovated for years i guess. All furniture is ragged, walls have dirty strips etc. So it's just bad and definitely not 5 stars.
Bed in the room got broken on the first attempt to sit on it.
Minibar was empty on check-in.
A/c cant cool the room in hours.
2) Really high prices, at least 2 times more than in South Goa on average and 4-5 times more that in North Goa. It's like you pay 30$ in any Las Vegas hotel for Gourmet buffet and here you in Goa (!) pay 20$ for just a buffet.
3) Hotel is on 2nd line and you need to go 7-10 minutes to the beach. Pool is small for such a big hotel.
4) An check-in manager asked us to re-send her our personal Agoda reservation though she already had us in her system. Why?
Pros: Hotel offered one option to change the room to Villa, but villa room was smaller and on the first floor.

Room Tip: Rooms in villa are newer and nicer but smaller.

We Had a decent stay in Radisson Blu. However would like to bring to notice one of the incident which happened, we went out to explore the city and when we came back we saw our room door wide open, after reaching out to the front desk we came to know that housekeeping folks came for evening service and forgot to shut the door, after reaching out to the duty manager he apologized that it was a human error and when we asked him to let us speak to the General Manager he said he would do so next day, till now we have not heard from any of them Highly Unprofessional and laid back attitude. I was lucky enough that nothing was stolen but it was blunder from the hotel end.

Overall - lovely hotel, beautiful surroundings, great location and super helpful, friendly staff. Be warned, it's not very quiet though!

We arrived on the first flight into Goa from Mumbai, after about 30hours of travelling at 8am. Needless to say, we were shattered and very much looking forward to that quiet room we'd requested. However, checkout in India seems to be a unanimous 12noon, which is lovely if you're the one checking out but not for someone who arrived early and would like to check in. The hotel had no spare rooms so we had to wait 7 hours for our room to be vacated and cleaned before we could crash. I realise this isn't the hotel's fault but please be aware for when you're booking your flights and don't pick the first flight in. We had to rummage through our suitcases in the reception's loos, find bikinis and suncream and then lie around the pool, which may not sound like a hardship but they were setting up a pool side wedding party and the music was deafening. Not conducive to much needed sleep.

Unfortunately, the noise did not abate, though we were told the next day that it was due to the wedding party and wouldn't happen again. We were kept awake until about 4am by our room vibrating from the bass of music in either the bar or the club below us. Our request for a quiet room had got lost somewhere in translation (even though we booked with a travel agent) and we were directly above the unsoundproofed bar. And I had earplugs that normally let me sleep through anything. However, every night except Sunday night, the bar played deafening music until around midnight and the bass could clearly be felt in our room on the second floor, though the earplugs did help mitigate this a bit. Radisson, you definitely need to soundproof your bar. I would concur with other reviewers who have said there seem to be a lot of weddings and conferences here but (other than the first day) only once did I feel that the pool was out of bounds for me due to the large number of exurberant Indian boys/men having taken it over. November to February is traditional wedding season in India (we were out there for a wedding) as the temperatures are good so perhaps bear that in mind when you book your trip.

However, the noise was the only major downside to this resort. The staff were unbelievably lovely and helpful, particularly Tanvi on reception who was very knowledgeable about what to see in the local area if you were organising your own trip out and also knew exactly where to go shopping for the authentic Indian attire we needed for a wedding the following week. The breakfast restaurant manager was also great and arranged for us to have a boxed breakfast for our incredibly early checkout for our next flight. The other staff were also extremely nice and eager to help.

The pool was lovely and (apart from that first day's wedding) lovely and quiet and relaxing. Temperatures in Goa in February are in the mid 30s which was perfect sunbathing weather. I'd read beforehand that due to India's conservatism, it might not be possible for women to sunbathe in bikinis as then they received unwanted attention but it was absolutely fine in this resort, the one next door and on the beach from what I could garner. Just take something with you to cover up in for walking around. The pool was large with steps into the shallow end and the "deep" end only being about 1ft deeper so very safe for children, though there was a small children's pool too. I think if there had been any Germans there, there wouldn't have been enough sunbeds to go round and definitely not enough brollies for those who can't sit out in the sun all day but the pool boys seemed to deem your bed available if you hadn't come back after a couple of hours and would remove the towels which was helpful if you hadn't got in there quick enough or had been out for the morning. You could also sunbathe at the next door hotel no problem, which had a slightly bigger pool with a deeper "deep" end and a bar literally next to it for those poolside drinks.

The hotel had a Chinese, a Goan/Portuguese fine dining, a bar, a club and a buffet giving plenty of choice if you didn't want to venture outside every night. The buffet did breakfast and seemed to have everything from traditional Indian to American to continental breakfasts though their selection of pastries could definitely be improved upon. It was also very convenient for dinner the couple of nights we didn't venture out, though it could have done with a few more continental dishes (from someone who doesn't eat fish or curry). It's not expensive to eat in - about £14 for two people with all the taxes they add at the end. However, this is more expensive than venturing out where you could eat for two for about £8.

The rooms themselves were perfectly clean, comfortable and adequate. There was a monsoon shower head as well as a handheld one in the shower cubicle and small toiletries are provided. The toilet paper is of an inferior quality however (it seems to be most places in India as they don't use it routinely) so if you have a sensitive posterior, take some Andrex. There is a safe deposit box in the room though it's not bolted down or connected to the main electricity, so conceivably, someone could just pick up the whole box and take it with them if they were determined to steal your stuff. It also meant that we ran through two batteries whilst we were there and it tended to give out at inconvenient times as these things do. The air con was great, not too noisy (above all the other noise and my earplugs, this wasn't a concern) and the room had a beach facing balcony (though you can only just see the sea through the trees but it's good for sunsets). There was a large TV but we didn't touch it, good hanging space for your clothes, though not much on the drawer space for undies etc and a mini bar/fridge. The hotel provided two big bottles of water a day which was great and a couple of days we somehow managed to acquire more so we didn't have to buy any water the entire time we were there (though it's only about 40p for a huge bottle) which was very helpful. In terms of value for money, I would say that this is about right, on the whole, I did feel relaxed and pampered when I left.

The hotel's spa was also good - we had a total body massage one morning which was amazing, though the girls' English wasn't the best and the fact mum had eczema and was allergic to massage oils was totally beyond them. But as an experience, it was lovely and pampering and not too expensive (about £25 for an hour) but remember they add taxes. We also did some in-house laundry and this would've been fine except that their laundry sheets state that if you hand in your laundry before 11am, you'll have it back by 11am the next day. You won't. Apparently this sheet is incorrect and you'll have it back by 6pm the following day - slightly panicking as we were leaving and needed to pack said washing. My advice, don't leave your laundry until the last day.

The great thing about this hotel was the location. It is set back from the beach and it's about a 10min walk through the adjoining hotel, Dona Sylvia, to get there but it's a lovely walk as all the grounds are very nice and well-tended (and you can get buggy rides to the beach if you're feeling super lazy). However, as I'm not too worried about sunbathing on the beach (all that sand's just a nuisance), it didn't bother us at all, though plenty of people did make the daily trip (and you can take the hotel's towels too so don't pack your own). There are lots of shacks on the beach where you can get food and drinks all day long. We went down for drinks at sunset which was beautiful and then walked back up to the hotel via all the shops along the mainroad (8 pashminas later...) so this was ideal for us. There is a lot to do in Cavelossim which in my opinion makes it far more appealing than many of the surrounding resorts. There are plenty of shops and restaurants and innumerable stalls selling everything you could ever wish for. We ate out several nights, the best local restaurant is probably Mike's Place as it offers a good variety of food to suit all tastes at very good prices. The river is a 2km walk/taxi ride away; we didn't make it down there as there wasn't enough time but there are apparently more restaurants down there and lots of boat trips/cruises too. Cavelossim isn't too far out of the way for it to be a pain to get anywhere else to see something of the area - we rented a taxi driver for the entire day and did a whirlwind trip of a spice farm near Ponda, some Hindu temples, old Goa and Panaji for about £30. I think on some of the resorts around here you're literally stranded as there's NOTHING else around the hotel for miles so I would highly recommend Cavelossim as a location, even if you pick a quieter hotel.

Room Tip: Don't stay anywhere close to the bar or club - these are all the rooms directly behind reception...

Radisson blu hotel and resorts in goa is located near cavelossim beach. Its an excellent hotel with all the amenities and facilities of a five star hotel. Personally i had a wonderful five star experience. Hotel has 5-6 restaurants serving different cuisins of the world like chinese.portugal ,italian and their specilality in indian food. it also has a personal spa parlour and a gym. facilities like swimming pool ,table tennis, pool and snooker is also available, I was impressed with their house keeping and cleanliness. providing such facilities under one roof makes it little expensive otherwise you can wait for a package deal.

The resort is a couple of minutes walk from the beach but don't let that deter you. It's set in well kept grounds including a pool and the spacious rooms are spotless. Service was world class, friendly and efficient. No-one could do enough for you. The food was excellent. The buffet was one of the best I've ever seen with a huge range of both Indian and European food...I'd recommend the fresh Kingfish. The success of the buffet means that some of the restaurants are quieter at night. Dont let that put you off. We tried a Goan curry selection at Lucios which was spicy but absolutely delicious and I'd recommend dining there. The four minute stroll to the beach is along a safe, flower lined path and the beach is a must, lined with informal shacks selling Kingfisher beer for a pound and even the odd beach hawker is more interested in a friendly chat rather than a hard sell. Outside the hotel are a range of bars, restaurants, tourist shops and cafes including the Jazz Bar where one of UB40 plays a lively set twice a week to a very mixed crowd from 20 to 80!. Its a great, quieter alternative to the 24/7 party vibe of other parts of Goa. My only regret was not staying there longer.

Room Tip: Rooms to the right of the pool are quieter

This hotel looks great in the brochure! However the staff at the main desk were very offhand to the point of rudeness and we were made to wait from 11.30am until 2.10pm without even the offer of any refreshment (water would have done!). When shown our room it was dirty. The bathroom had a lot of mould on the blind and in the shower itself, there were cobwebs and dust and the balcony had peeling paint and a filthy balustrade, the floor had not even been swept, let alone washed.
We were given another room which was slightly better but with a minute balcony which needed cleaning and again flaking paint - not what one would expect from a 4/5 star hotel that is only 18 months old!
The food was good, if a little repetative but this is hard to avoid with buffet style dining. We went to the Chineese restaurant once - don't bother. The food was too spicy and some was soggy and there were so few diners there that it lacked any atmosphere.
During our stay there were 3 weddings and a large conference. This entailed a lot of noise and people arriving at all times in the night and settling themselves in none too quietly!
One wedding party in particular took place around the pool and was so loud that our patio doors shook and we couldn't sit outside as the volume was so high that it hurt your ears.
The other weddings and conference took place on the green patch between the Raddisson Blu and the Donna Sivia. This area is too small and close to other guests so that their well being was comprimised.
The Spa is a real treat and the hotel is conveniently situated near shops and restaurants. However it is a corporate hotel not suitable for a relaxing holiday.

Room Tip: pick a room away from the grass area because they water the grass most days and the smell can be ove...
