“Goan Goan gone!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 31, 2011

what a fabulous little place this is!!
If you get the opportunity, this is seriously somewhere you have to stay if getting away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life is your aim. Clean and tidy and very peaceful, no screaming kids or busloads of tourists to contend with. This location is one of the best i have been to in Goa and the 10 'Shacks" are for me the antithesis of the perfect Goan getaway... Do yourself a favour, and get yourself there as quickly as you can! You will not be disappointed!!.

After reading about the Blue Whale restaurant in the Lonely Planet, we decided to stop in at Mobor during a two-and-a-half week trip through Goa. Firstly, it's worth pointing out the place is very much at the end of the road - our (non-local) taxi driver tried to give up getting us there more than once!

When we did arrive we very quickly realised we'd made the right decision to stop off here. There are 10 bamboo huts (and calling them huts really does not do them any justice at all) either side of a pathway leading through the sand dunes to the restaurant and then beach. The next nearest hotel or restaurant is the Leela 10-15 mins walk down the beach, so you really do feel the beach is your own!

The huts themselves are a sight to behold; made using traditional methods by artisans from North East India, they really do surpass anything you could rightly expect from a 'beach hut'. If you are lucky enough to stay at a time when the owner and his family are there (Hallo Freddy!) be sure to ask to see the photos of how they were built. Inside they are very spacious and comfortably furnished. One of us even wrote down the name of the pillow maker after sleeping so well...

However lovely the accommodation is the real draw here is the immediate location and super-friendly staff. The restaurant is wonderful - the food is very tasty and fresh, especially the seafood if you are around when the catch of the day is landed nearby!

The beach is very quiet and peaceful. Really the only other people we saw were other guests and people coming for the day, guests of the Leela, who would generally walk by but not stop, and the friendly local lifeguard. The latter should reassure anyone thinking of visiting with children as you will definitely need to cool off with a swim in the sea once or twice a day.

The owner is very keen to emphasise the environmentally friendly ethos which has gone into building and running the place and we certainly found nowhere to stay like it in Goa. The only slight negative we can think of is the fact that the local town, Cavelossim, 4km away lacks the character and charm of many Indian/Goan towns. But that just provides even more incentive to stay on the beach and enjoy the peaceful life at Bamboo House Goa!

The accommodation was still being finished when we stayed, but we wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place to anyone wanting to find a spot of secluded bliss in Goa. Without wishing to sound too gushing, it really is the sort of place you half want to keep a secret so you can go back and enjoy it again but can't stop telling everyone to visit
