“Good but could improve..”

We had a pleasant week here in June when the hotel was less than full but I wouldn't fancy it in the very high season because the space round the pool was a bit cramped even when we were there, although there is plenty of room on the beach. The other serious issue is the aircon which was no better than average for most of our stay and by the last but one night had developed serious problems, only slightly better the next night after they had been tinkering with it all day. Food-excellent breakfasts, main restauarant had a vg choice for dinner and less bland than usual. Rooms comfortable apart from the aircon problem: design very clever as although the front of the hotel is on a busy road the pool side is three levels down and well back so you can hardlyhear any traffic. Access to Chania excellent via local bus service which stops opposite every 20 mins.

“A pleasant stay”

This was our first time in Greece and we spent a week here in June. The weather was pleasantly warm but it was rather windy at times which made sitting outside in the evenings somewhat uncomfortable.

It was an enjoyable stay and the hotel overall was very nice with friendly staff who spoke english very well. The food was very well presented and the standard was reasonable. Although you do get a bit fed up eating more or less the same things every day. But to be fair, there is only so much you can vary and if you want genuine variety, you have to eat out.

Our sea view room was a little disappointing. Not only was it small but the view was obscured by rooftops of the other parts of the hotel. Had I been charged over the odds, I would probably have complained. Looking around, I could see that many so called sea view rooms had similarly obstructed views due to the design of the hotel. But saying this, I was happy that I was not in a room overlooking the main road, obscured sea view or not!

There was also plenty of sun bed reserving going on, usually starting before 8am! Us English folk cannot be blamed for this as there were not many of us staying there.

Apart from the hotel being right on the beach, it was just that little too remote. Atlhough a taxi into Chania was 7 Euros, a return trip on a regular basis can be rather costly. However, there is a bus service with a stop outside the hotel but how reliable this was, I do not know.

The pavements near the hotel are not great either. They are either worn/damaged or non existent and you often end up walking on the road with cars speeding by you. Not good if you have pushchairs etc.

Despite the above, we had a pleasant stay and got good value for money. Not sure if I would return but at the same time, I would not deter others from staying here.

“Lovely Place”

Had a lovely week here recently. Fab food! The chef was fantastic and prepared me specific food due to my diet on some nights.
The service was excellent and the waiters work so hard.
The bar prices are a bit expensive, but it is a five star hotel so you expect it.
Pool area lovely and very well kept. 2 life guards on duty at all times (pool and private beach)
I specifically liked this hotel as there were not many children about (no offence meant to anyone!!)
It was just starting to get busier when we were leaving,so I assume entertainment would improve a bit, it was a bit lame to be honest.
The bus service in to Chania is fabulous, 1euro 50 and is very regular.
I would definately go back here at some point but my only bad point is that the air con in our room(sea view wow!!) was poor, not very effective.
Lovely complementary fruit and wine, slippers and bath robe were in the room on arrival . You must try the massages, especially the Kalliston special!!! Bliss!!! Had a facial too, but wasnt that impressed especially since it was quite expensive.
Hope this has been helpfull to you.

Booked rather late.

Superb hotel. Arrived early morning before check in time, but the the lady at reception was most helpful as was the bright and sparky porter.

Amazingly generous breakfast spread with some remarkably healthy choices and local food.

Evening buffet a bit expensive at 30 euros, but the food was fresh and very well prepared with excellent 5 star service. Very good room service menu. Hotel staff very helpful

No concierge, and therefore, had difficulty getting any information from reception, who handed a map of Chania with some reluctance. Difficult to get information from reception on tours and places to visit. Internet costs 5 euros an hour to find out. So best come prepared with details beforehand (more than what the guide books on Crete will tell you).

Extremely relaxing holiday. Well worth another visit

I booked this holiday through thomson holidays and as a single traveller was only able to book and I quote a garden / mountain view.
On arrival this turned out to be a small room overlooking a very busy road and a building site not a flower or mountain in sight.
I was offered an so called upgrade to a sea view room much the same as the other only with a sea view and slightly larger . however this did not come cheap with a huge supplement per night. I accepted this but definately think it was very over priced My thomson rep agreed with me but foolishly I did not see her about it at the time. She felt thomson holiday makers were given the worst of the rooms.

Apart from this the hotel was OK but definately not deserving of being in Thomsons A la carte brochure. The food in the dining room was quite good but the dining room itself was over bright and lacked any kind of ambience ( as did the ala carte restaurant)
There was very limited space to sit outside

The pool and the beach were lovelyand their were enough deck chairs to go round but this was May I don't think it would be the same story in high season.

I have spent the second week of this holiday at the Aquila Rithymna Beach where I have a lovely sea view room without paying a small fortune. The hotel is altogeather of a much better standard and I would reccomend it to anyone.

The Kalliston is a Grecotel to which I belong to their privilege club and in the past have always found them friendly and accommodating but not this time
I certainly shall not be going back to the Kalliston although Chania is a lovely town.
