“Vista Tranquila really lives up to it’s name, a beautiful, peaceful place with modern luxuries”
Review of Vista Tranquila, Alte
When you book an apartment for your precious holiday away from work, you always hope it will be at least as good as at home and certainly as good as the pictures supplied. We need not have been concerned when booking this one; Vista Tranquila is just beautiful with generous sized, light filled rooms. (As I am a bit squeamish about foreign wild life I was thrilled to see that both large windows have insect screens so you can get air & light in, without inviting any unwanted guests!) The apartment is finished and furnished to the highest quality and just oozes luxury. It really is a space you want to spend time in but the pull of the beautiful weather and numerous outdoor activities proved too strong. The infinity pool overlooking the hillside is a real treat, ‘though in October it takes a little determination to take the plunge (water was around 70 when we there). The pool is salt water with no chemicals & is meticulously maintained by Peter the owner.
Mandy & Peter who live on site, are lovely hosts who respect your privacy but in turn cannot do enough for you, you just have to ask.
There are several walks from the apartment but you will need to drive to others for a variety of scenery. Be aware of the occasional stray dogs you might encounter. We didn’t have any problems with the ones we met but if you want to be prepared consider getting a dog tazer. (Humane devise to deter dogs from approaching). One good local walk was at Rocha da Pena mainly along a lime stone escarpment passing by a neolithic stone bank with excellent views South. Monchique is worth a visit with a central market place – good stop for coffee before trying out Foia peak, the highest mountain in the Algarve. About 40 minutes drive away is Silves with it’s impressive 8- 12 century Moorish castle, considered to be the best preserved Moorish castle in the country, including stunning 360 degree views across the country side. If you go looking for the Barragem (dams) to the North, be aware that you are likely to end up on very rough roads and allow plenty of time for the expedition. (Our map was not detailed enough to show that the short cuts were unpaved tracks!)
If you drive on the motor-ways keep an eye out for toll charges which are automatically charged as you pass. You can arrange to pay these by credit card via the car hire company for an additional fee or pay yourself at a local Post office.
Vista Tranquila really lives up to it’s name, a beautiful peaceful place with modern luxuries (gym, music to all rooms, satellite TV, swimming pool, high spec fully fitted kitchen. An ideal place to “get away from it all” but with all the modern conveniences of a 5* hotel in a self-catering environment.
We will have to visit again as we ran out of time to try out the well equipped gym and games room and explore more walks on the west & south coast.
