“Great hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2014

Just returned from a lovely holiday at the Baobab - really great. Lovely food, very clean, great facilities, fabulous staff etc. Very highly rated. Only downside is the beach boys. They just hassle and hassle and hassle. Really spoils things. I travelled alone and simply was not comfortable going in the beach and I felt I was missing out but I'd heard of people getting ripped off and hassled incessantly (and seen it for myself) so I decided to give it a miss. It's a shame as it's a beautiful beach.

Apart from that it was a fabulous holiday and a great resort. If you do safari, contact Monika at Molu Safaris or JT Safaris. Both great and much better range than those sold by resort holiday reps.

Great service, the best experience of complete relax near the Indian Ocean, uplifting water aerobics with the most outstanding coaches, excellent choreography of the shows, unforgettable show of acrobatics, very friendly atmosphere, very tasty food and fresh juices. We loved this journey and the only thing we can regret - the time passes so quickly!

Aahaaa, that got your attention didnt it? Good because everyone should know about this place. Its a little gem..
NEVER AGAIN will we look around for a hotel in Kenya, it will be the BAOBAB Beach Resort every time!!! We absolutely loved this place :-))))
Stayed here end of November/December 13. for two weeks minus safari. Sorry for the late late review, never enough hours in the day.
Having stayed elsewhere (also a very good hotel) we returned this time with our good friends to share the delights of Kenya. We chose the Baobab with upgrade to the Kole Kole. Definitely worth the upgrade as people have said many times.
The staff are a true delight and their enthusiasm knows no bounds. From those who work extremely hard behind the scene to those at the forefront of customer service they are a credit to the hotel. Everyone wanted to help and everyone just wanted you to have the very best stay. Nothing was too much trouble, (not in a creepy way or in an effort to earn extra) just genuinely wonderful staff. We never once felt any pressure to tip, we just wanted to.
On arrival even though we had a sea view of sorts we weren't 110% happy. We were immediately shown other rooms and both couples moved within an hour of arrival.
Rooms were large and thoughtfully furnished with what appeared to be non mass produced furniture? hand made even? i don't know? but it felt totally in keeping with the whole feel of the place. They were clean and spacious with crisp linen and huge beds. The only thing i might change about the room was the open shower, maybe it could have a curtain or screen of some description as an option? Ok if your with your spouse/partner or whatever but if anyone is staying in the room with you that you wouldn't be completely happy of been starkers around they need to sit in the corner and close their eyes. :-)
The Jodari Restaurant. I cannot comment on any of the others as we didn't eat there but at the Jodari we loved the theme nights and how the room was decorated and made up accordingly. It was really lovely. Food, again is just grand. Choice for everyone and plentiful, nobody need go hungry here. Their meats are scrummy and really tasty. Would recommend all the meats. There was also the usual fish dish every night, not my thing so wouldn't comment on this. I would of eaten their snow peas every day if they had been offered and the coconut rice.....just yum! Thanks and hugs to our special omelette man Solomon for making breakfast (the meal i personally avoid at home) so damn good!!! Also to the lovely Patrick - Padster, Silus and all who served us so well thank you for your kindness and attention.
The small pizza station behind the pool serves fresh cooked pizza, burgers etc late afternoon. These are really good and tasty. If you like milky latte type coffee go over the other side of the pool and ask at that bar, otherwise its strong stuff. Under the same area, doughnuts, popcorn, cake, sandwiches etc in the afternoon. Some days they brought out cooking stations and cooked some things beside the pool like stir fry for instance which was a lovely touch. Just squashes the munchies between meals :-)
Animation team, brilliant and tireless. Shows pretty good. We didn't join in with too much but not because we didn't feel welcome to but because we enjoyed watching ;-)
The grounds are kept immaculately clean and carefully looked after and there is a lot of grounds to be tended. I never saw cigarette ends or any litter, amazing!
We stayed by the infinity pool which is clean and not overly busy with the entrance been suitable for the kids to sit and play in.
Beach boys are fine, they are no problem really and were never ever aggressive. I just asked them if they would like to join us and hold hands with me on our romantic walk. They just laughed and said 'i talk you later'. For anyone that has been to Egypt for instance these guys are a breeze in comparison.
Our party used the wellness centre on several occasions and enjoyed it immensely. Some things are quite reasonable but others a little pricey? but who minds paying a bit extra if you enjoy?
The internet access was good and ok on price. Didn't want to miss the football and listened to match commentary several times without any interruptions or buffering whilst we were there which i didn't expect to be able to do so was suited with that. Didn't bother with calls home just used the internet and social media.
The laundry service is very good and prompt. Away at tea time back by early evening. Only going to take half the stuff next time and use their service instead.
The little boutique type shops in the grounds are nice to have a walk to. Not incredibly expensive like a lot of hotel shops can be and definitely no pressure to buy when you go in.
Thank you to all and i mean ALL at the Baobab. You have a hotel to be very proud of. Call to the Caribbean for us this time but we will be back soon, of that there is no doubt.

We stayed in January and had spent 8 months looking forward to the holiday and were not disappointed! We booked through Thompson and every single part of the holiday was well organised, including the Dreamliner flight that was fab with lots of leg room.

Baobab is just the most wonderful, happy and beautiful place. We stayed in "Baobab" (rather than Kole Kole or Mirdadi) in one of the circular bungalows which we were told was the more "downmarket" part of the hotel but it was perfect for what we wanted. Clean, tidy, massive bed and tea, coffee etc.

The staff are wonderful, so friendly and interested in how your holiday is going, they take a real pride in making sure people are happy. The food was great, we ate somewhere different every mealtime each day as each restaurant has different atmospheres, although the view from Miridadi in the morning is just perfect.

The Dawa cocktail is a must for anyone to try! Some people complained the food was repetitive but there is plenty of to pick from which makes me think others must be choosing the same meals, there certainly isn't a lack of options.

It really was the best two weeks. I would recommending hiring a sea kayak and going out to the sand bar on it if you don't like the beach boys as it gets you away and you can enjoy the ocean, which is also perfect.

We went of Safari with JT which comes 100% recommended, felt quite sorry for the people in Pollmans vans going past us in our 4x4 to ourselves when they were all squashed in for the same price! You so lose out on the company and meeting new people tho so I suppose it depends what you prefer.

Anyway, I would go again tomorrow if I could, it really is the sort of holiday you can only dream of. Thanks baobab!

Will definitely return next year (for the 7th or 8th time, stayed there single, with 1 and this time 3 companions), not only due to the most beautiful location at Diani Beach. The people treat the guests like members of the family, starting at the reception, waiters, cooks, room boy/girl, gardeners, askari ... their friendliness is honest, the rejoice in their jobs is real (inconceivable in Europe). The quality of food is outstanding (regardless of whether you enjoy the meal at the all-in or à la carte restaurant). The cleanliness of rooms and public lavatories is faultless. The state of the garden is impressive. And and and ... Actually, there's absolutely nothing to complain about! On the contrary!
Came back to Austria yesterday ... and already feel homesick!

Room Tip: Heard of guests' satisfactory experience with their bungalow they used to book since years, anot...

The Baobab Beach Resort and spa is a large low level hotel split in to three wings the Kole Kole , the Baobab and the Maridadi each section has its own pool and restaurant. Guest can freely use any restaurant or facility in any wing.
From the moment we arrived to the moment we departed we were treated like VIP’s, everyone from the gardeners to management make you feel welcome and cannot do enough for you. This warm is genuine not for tips you may give.
The staff take real pride in the hotel everywhere was clean neat and tidy our room was very clean and well looked after. We did have a problem with the air conditioning unit losing its gas and it took 3 attempts completely rectify the problem. The bars had a good stock of local sprits, beer and coffee and soft drinks, Sometimes ice seemed to be in short supply and the cocktail list could be more comprehensive but this is only a very minor criticism.
We visited all the self-service restaurants we were always shown to a table and asked what we would like to drink. There was a wide variety of well prepared food and the chefs were always present. The décor in the restaurants is change daily. Two of the restaurants have an evening dress code which we liked.
The 3 pools were clean warm and inviting there was daytime entertainment which we did not see preferring to sunbath. Evening entertainment at the Porini Amphitheatre was fair to excellent depending on your taste. The only slight criticism was there could have been more variety in the music played the disco after the shows finished.
We had a massage at the Afya Bora wellness club which was very good and competitively priced. The high light of our two week stay was a moon lit dinner on the beach which was an extra and was well worth every penny.
While we were sun bathing on the beach we were not bothered by the beach vendors but as soon as we went for a walk we were, they can be a nuisance but if you are firm and polite they do take no for answer. If you want to buy from a beach vender be prepared to barter well or you will pay more than you would in the hotel shop, the beach sellers have to make a living and they know all the tricks of their trade.
The transfer from the airport to the hotel can take a long while due to the ferry queues, coaches are only allowed on certain ferries. It is far better to pre book a taxi which takes about 1hour.
As you can guess we enjoyed every second of our stay at this resort

Room Tip: Room 1209 close to the beach ,Restaurant and pool

We've just returned from a 2 week stay at Baobab and wanted to say what a fantastic place! Wonderful, helpful and friendly staff. Absolutely loved the monkeys running round the resort - made us smile! Excellant choice of food and didn't become repetative - always something there to eat. Loved the layout of the resort with it never appearing busy. We spent most of our time around the 'quiet' pool which was our favourite with it's pool bar! Watch out for the cheeky monkeys trying to steal food during snack time! We went on safari with JT Safari's who was fantastic (see seperate review). We would definitely recommend using his services rather then the cramped Thomson safari's and we didn't have to check out of our rooms when on safari.
We would return to this resort any day!!
