“Leopard Beach continues to improve.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2013

I have been a regular visitor to Leopard Beach over the years and while the level of service has always been excellent the facilities are being upgraded each time I stay there.

There is something special about visiting a hotel and to be greeted by name by staff who actually remember you and make you feel so welcome. This hotel is truly a home away from home and is the perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle of city life. The hotel grounds are superb and the pool area and beach are just perfect for relaxing and recharging one's batteries.

I have stayed in all types of rooms at the hotel and I have seen continual improvement in the quality of the rooms. I must say the Chui cottages are a real treat and when visiting the coast I feel like treating myself well. They are bright and well appointed with wonderful views looking down over the Indian Ocean, what a treat it is to sit outside in your own private area with a glass of wine and soak up the warmth and atmosphere of south coast!!

The new restaurant area is very nice, open and spacious. Service is good, the staff are very attentive and the breakfast is great. Sundowners at the bar is another wonderful experience, the view is spectacular and the unique styling of the bar area adds to the atmosphere.

I look forward to my next visit, my home from home on south coast, and the friendly welcome I always receive. Leopard Beach cannot be beaten, in so many ways it is simply the best experience one can have in this idyllic Indian ocean location.

Room Tip: Take a cottage, they may be more pricey but they are definitely worth it. To open the curtains and l...

I returned to this beautiful paradise after 4 years and can say its even more amazing with the new look and upgrades that it has. The resort is even more beautiful amidst its lush gardens and sandy beach. This wonderful experience started right from the time of booking until the day of our departure. I cannot stress enough about the most friendliest and amazing staff that catered for our every need. We were on half board so besides the amazing buffet we had a chance to indulge in some exotic scrumptious food that the in house restaurants provided including the famous chui grill.
The new lounges with their magnificent views are a marvel to the eyes. My children loved the pool and all the fun activities that were organized by the animation. The atmosphere is very serene and peaceful. Our rooms were very clean and well kept. Enough cannot be said about the amazing spa...it is totally bliss and paradise.
The only sad part was when it was time to leave. We cannot wait to go back and indulge in this luxury again! Well done Leopard...keep it up!!!

Our four nights stay at the Leopard Beach Resort and Spa were not just relaxing but also rich in terms of the quality services whereby we enjoyed the changed product the Resort has become after last year’s fire. Lots of emphasis on personal touches and the obvious eye for details reflect in imaginative decorations and the great original paintings in the lobby area.
Having been here before the recent Renovations after last year’s forced closure have given this hotel a brand new look with such great enhancements to guest experience that it is today even more value for the money paid for their still reasonable rates.
Our children were very comfortable with the new Little Leopards Club and this gave us quality time to enjoy our holidays with early meals for the young ones guaranteeing a quiet dinner time for us . Checking out of this hotel was not an easy task for the little and the big ones were surrounded by friendly and caring staff throughout our stay clearly reflecting the professional management Leopard Beach has become known for over the years.
The new addition Wines and Whiskers Bar is certainly a very unique spot serving up to 100 different wines and guests are spoiled for choices at for Kenya reasonable prices compared to other hotels we stayed in.
Food is amazing and we were spoiled with the dining options available for lunch and dinner. Being vegetarians our every need was catered for on a very personal bases by a dedicated Chef and F&B Management team
We could not have asked for better rooms with our Sea View Cottages and the spacious terrace overlooking the ocean, very comfortable beds and room amenities more than you actually need. Our friends were equally happy with their sea facing Superior rooms and we all enjoyed our walks thru the large tropical gardens which are very well maintained . We in particular noticed the since our last stay renovated bathrooms with high quality fittings, rain showers and tasteful new tiles.
Our only complaint was the weather that was beyond the hotels control as sun and rain mixed freely and often. This made us spend more money than planned at the excellent UZURI Spa but in the end this only added to our total relaxation and well being. Indoor games , sports channels, kids movies and the Kalani Coffee lounge with free WIFI made a world of a difference during rainy spells when we did not venture out for great beach walks.

We will be back again soon and meanwhile tell our friends what a wonderful Paradise there is in Diani a mere one flight from Nairobi’s Wilson AP

Room Tip: Chui Suites are sheer bliss!!

I don't really know where to start... The hotel is beautiful, on such a lovely stretch of idyllic beach and the hotel itself well laid out, gardens well looked after and the pool stunning!! The food was great, with something for every mood. From the moment we arrived we were treated like royalty, the staff were just so friendly, funny and warm and really couldn't do enough for us. We felt very welcomed and at home within minutes and by the end of our stay really didn't want to leave! We had only booked 2 nights and now wished we'd booked a week. Unfortunately there was a lot that we didn't get around to doing... we noticed there were loads of fun activities going on, as well as a spa that everyone kept raving about but we were just far too relaxed to get involved! I can't think of anything negative to say about the hotel at all, it really was a magical experience. Lastly thanks to Jones and James! The world's best bar tenders! You kept our glasses full and kept us very well entertained! Watch out, we WILL be back! :)

The Chui team remains committed to offer excellent service to our guests and our continuous Property Management Programme ensures all areas are maintained at their best. We are pleased that you noted the evidence in our spacious gardens which are looked after by no less than 30 gardeners and the stunning pool areas. Our Guests Relations officers, Front Office receptionists and the concierge brigade are well trained to be the face of the Resort and give our guests the first impression that should be the lasting impression. We are truly honored that you experienced this within minutes on arrival.

We have entertainment programmes with very exciting activities for all on daily basis; Children, teens and adults all get to be occupied and there is always more than you need. We also tailor-make activities to suit your preferences in our Adventure center.

Jones and James are renowned for their mixology skills and we have shared your elated comments with them and further appreciated them for making your stay very special; notably that they kept your glasses full which of utmost importance to us. ( and our cashflow...)

We look forward to welcome you again soon when you can fully enjoy all our services and products.

Stayed at this stunning hotel for only 2 nights unfortunately! What a fabulous end to our holiday!
The entire hotel is spotless and they have obviously taken so much care in the styling and ambience! The staff are so helpful and friendly and nothing is too much! I have to mention the super smiley bar staff especially James who had us in stitches....and taught us some Swahili!
The choice of food is unreal...you cannot fail! And the quality is evident!
The room was large and the beds so comfortable that it was hard to prise yourself out even to hit the stunning beach and pool area!

There are so many wonderful things about this hotel. It is beautiful, the food is great, the beach areas some of the best I have come across in Diani, but, if you are like us, and have small children then there are far, far better hotels than Leopard Beach. Almost any would likely be better. We have stayed in 9 hotels along Diani over the past few years, Leopard Beach may well be the lowest on my list for the simple fact that the needs of the smallest guests doesn't rank very high on their list of priorities. I think the appearance of being a nice hotel is very important, but the actual function was a disaster. Yes, there is a kids club, run by a single woman. The kids club is completely closed at all meal times, so if you were hoping to have a quiet meal, you will need to hire a baby sitter. Our children checked multiple times during the day to see if the indoor playroom was open, but it was always locked. We finally did find the woman who runs it who showed us the schedule. The activities are there, but you have to hunt them, and her, down. There are no channels for kids on the TV, there are many international movie channels, local, sports, but not a single kids channel. They do say that they run kids movies at 9am and 5pm on TV, but this not once happened on time during our entire stay. The only time the movies came on was after calling the front desk, over, and over and over. The Start Menu of the DVD to be played was shown on the TV, but the Play button was not pushed until you call- every single night, multiple times. And over the course of our stay only 2 movies were shown. If I ever see Toy Story again, I think I might have to leave the room. Speaking of which, there was 1 single CD played over the hotel music system the entire time we were there. The same music, over and over. It was nice African-esque, but after the 5th day...?
The hotel also has many many stairs, the pool is beach side, and the rooms are higher on the cliff. Lots of stairs of quite slippery tiles just right for little feet to slip on, or to be carried up. The tiles around the pool area are great through, not slippery at all, which was nice. The pool itself was also nice, but when we were swimming around with our snorkeling gear on (teaching our kids before we went out on their first snorkeling trip) we realized that the pool floor was filthy, littered with water bottle wrappers, toilet paper, napkins, bits of food, a stray braid of hair or 2. We were told by the pool boys that the filter system doesn't really work, so they have to sweep it up and open the drain every day to suck out the trash. Also in the pool area, one morning sitting on a sun lounger on the side of the pool bistro I heard no fewer than 5 times that plates, glasses and at least once, a whole tray of milkshake glasses break on the tiles next to the pool. They were swept up, but when my husband walked through an hour or so later, he picked up 2 large pieces of glass, and he wasn't even particularly looking for any. Most hotels do not allow glass near a pool...
Our room was lovely, with some of the nicest sheets I have ever slept on. The bed was perfect as was the pillow. The room was plenty big, with a nice TV and sitting area. The bathroom was fine, except for the fact that the shower has no door whatsoever nor curtain, so our boys could not ever take a shower with out drowning the room. I do suspect a small con though on the mini bar. We were supposed to receive, included with our room, 4 small bottles of water a day. For 2 days we were given no water, so we drank the water in the fridge thinking it was all the same, water here, water there, Hakuna Matata, right? Oh no. We were charged over 1 euro for a tiny bottle of water. When we asked the cleaner why no water was given, she laughed. The next time she left no water we asked her again, and she said, there is no water. This time we knew better than to use the mini bar water. Also in the room, the complimentary bath robes smelled so horrible I had to shower again after I wore one for about 5 minutes.
All of the restaurants in the hotel serve wonderful food. Really excellent and a nice variety, but dinners are much too late for kids. There is an earlier kids dinner available, but with out sufficient bodies to keep nature at bay, the local monkeys were soon terrorizing the little ones. Didn't make *that* mistake again. Again, the kids club wonderful playroom which is right next to the main dining room area is closed during all mealtimes, it isn't possible to send the little ones over there to play while you finish your Chardonnay. For food, we were on Full Board+. Not to be confused with All inclusive. This covers only food and drinks during meal times. And not all drinks, only some drinks. Since this is a relatively new system, even the staff aren't sure what is and isn't included. It made for may stressful meals and lots of arguing when we checked out. Such a miserable system.
I did have a massage at the spa. It was very nice although a bit of a walk from the

Over all we had a wonderful time. the kids were begging to stay an extra day, the room was fantastic, the food excellent, the staff for the most part were as great as any kenyan hotel, but there are just a few tiny things they could do to make this hotel truly outstanding for kids and families- Open the playroom during meal times, have at least 1 kids channel like NICk Jr, eliminate the glass next to the pool and have meal times a bit earlier so families can eat together. We were given a free upgrade and free late (very late) check out so I hardly can complain, but when a hotel is so close to being great, it is hard to over look the bits that keep it sub par.
We know which hotels in the area wow and amaze us, this isn't one of them. So, when we book our next holiday in a couple months time, it won't be to Leopard Beach, it will to to another hotel, similar price but one that *doesn't* fail to meet our expectations and the needs of our littlest ones. Leopard Beach: SO close, but yet so far...When we took our feedback to the front desk, it was met with threats and hostility, so I don't expect this review to be received any better...I was told very specifically and succinctly, "This is not a hotel for Children, nor for a family with children." I couldn't agree more.

Dear Mbvanwees,

Thank you for taking your time to give us such a detailed review following your 4 nights stay with us. We are most grateful for the very many positive comments about the wonderful things you noted in our Resort. We however most sincerely apologize that we finally fell short of your expectations.

We must admit, having been nominated by the World Travel Awards as the best Family Hotel in Africa based on the reviews we receive from the majority of our guests, we were a little surprised by your comments but we cannot ignore your one off experience with us in regard to the services offered to the Little Leopards.

We take the satisfaction of our guests both big and little very seriously and, having immediately looked into the issues you raised and taken action where needed, we would like to share our response with you.

Firstly, our apologies that your children could not access the indoor playroom and suitable television at all times. We tended to save the indoor playroom for those rare rainy days when children are unable to enjoy the bountiful playground offered up by our gardens and beaches. However, we have noted your feedback on the opening and closing times of the Little Leopards room and ensured this is now run and manned throughout so that parents can enjoy dinner in piece while their children are able to watch a variety of suitable films in the nearby playroom.

As you mentioned, we do also offer an early children’s dinner for those parents wishing to tuck their children in and enjoying an evening together past their children’s bedtime. For this alternative, we offer a babysitting service and a children’s movie channel. We sincerely apologise for the issues you had accessing these films and have established that this was a problem in a few rooms in two blocks which has since been resolved – we can confirm we now have the channel up and running consistently in all the rooms.

The use of plastic glasses around the pool areas is a requirement by the Federation of Tour Operators and we have ensured total adherence to this in our pool areas; if there was any lapse of this during your stay we highly regret this and can ensure you we are now closely monitoring this. We have noted with concern the apparent confusion over our Full Board Plus Package which has successfully operated for over two years. The management will be sure to attend some of the usually thorough briefings held for guests at check-in to establish where any confusion may have arisen from and will also ensure that restaurant staff are re-emphasizing what is included in the package, as they have been trained to do.

Our music system is on a 6 CD changer that is alternated daily which we have ascertained is fully functional, with CD’s alternating automatically.

We offer two bottles of complimentary drinking water per room on a daily basis and it is clearly indicated in the price list on top of the mini bar that anything else consumed from the mini bar is chargeable. This brief is also given at check in and we highly regret any miscommunication at the time.

Thank you for the very positive comments on our food and restaurants, we are very pleased to know that your children were begging to stay and urge you to give us another chance so you can attest to the fact that we have taken on board your feedback to ensure that Leopard Beach is a hotel both for children and for parents.

My wife and I just returned from Nairobi, but managed to get 2 nights in at the Leopard Beach Resort. What a GREAT place! Being it winter time there, the weather was perfect in the 60's-70's (F), especially since we came back to a hot summer in Arizona (USA). The grounds are meticulously cared for, and the staff couldn't have been friendlier. We did the half board which included 2 meals at the Horizon restaurant, and the meals were delicious, especially sitting out on the open deck overlooking the ocean, under a moonlit sky, being serenaded by the evening entertainment. Even though it was short, it was a great way to celebrate our 20th Anniversary. We are planning on another trip to Kenya next year, and the Leopard Beach resort, WILL be on our itinerary. My wife had a truly unique and relaxing experience at the Uzuri Spa, and can't wait to come back to try one of the their other pampering treatments.
