“Leopard Kenya”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 23, 2012

We spent one week in Leopard. Although I must admit that the quality of standard room isn't very high and we had to pay more money to get better rooms that could satisfy us, generally the hotel is great. It is mainly because thanks to those wonderful people who work there. Everyone is so friendly and helpful. Thanks to this wonderful atmosphere I would like to return to that hotel many times. I loved the animator Brian, who was so friendly that although we don;t really like sport we went to water aerobics every day. He created great atmosphere and we all loved that guy. Iha, his friend was also very friendly. We also enjoyed the elder guy who gave us sunbeds: extremely friendly and helpful. To all the waitresses and waiters: you do a great job. Leopard's has a great beach and beautiful gardens. One of the gardeners, Stephen, showed us plants and animals living in the gardens. It was so nice to see that he was proud of his job. Generally, we really recommend this hotel, especially to those who like peace and quiet, great friendly atmosphere, beautiful nature and comfort.

We have stayed at this hotel for a short beach break. Everything was great, from reservation through their Nairobi Booking Office until check out. I must admit I was bit skeptical with some negative reviews on Trip Advisor, but the place is great. One can always be critical, and there is always room for improvement, but this place is nice and we will hopefully go back in April.

We received a warm welcome at the entrance where host man offered us fresh welcome cocktail. At the reception, we were told that our room was upgraded because they simply had extra rooms available. We were taken to our cottage which had a see view, the room was big and had lot of space outside with chairs and traditional beach bed. We were kindly explained all we needed to know. The wi-fi Internet was also working fine in the room.

The breakfast was great, plenty of everything. Some viewers commented that it is always the same, but there is nothing more one can think of for breakfast. Coffee and tea were served free of charge at 4:00 pm by the pool. We had buffet dinner and we have no complaints about the choice and taste.

The beach is great and you can order your lunch there too. You do not have to have any money with you, you can simply add it to your room and pay on checkout. The pool is also there, with clean water.

As for entertainment, there was live music in the main restaurant. There is also spa, but we have not tried it. There are also some shops in the lobby area where you can buy paintings and handcrafts.

We traveled with our three year old son, and he had great time at the beach. Kids club is also there, but it is located in the very small room. I expected some activities for the kids at the pool, but have not seen anything. I wish they also had some water attractions either at the pool or in the sea, for example slide and pedal boats. It is not expensive, but it keeps kids happy.

Somebody commented on monkeys, and the smell . Well, the hotel is surrounded by tropical gardens and monkeys live there. It is an attraction and they have their role there as thei cats too which chase snakes away. The management requests guests not to feed monkeys and cats, and there is a reason for that. There were no mosquitos around the hotel and rooms. Mosquito nets are provided though at request.

The staff of the hotel are its greatest asset. Everyone is kind and attentive. Nobody asked for tip, but we were happy to give it. We checked ot at 5 am, and there was light breakfast and coffee for us in the main restaurant. I can say that we have traveled a lot and have not experienced such service yet.

So overall, if you wish to relax at the Indian ocean, we recommend Leopard Beach Resort and Spa.

Dear TheHagueDule,

We take this opportunity to thank you for choosing to come to Leopard Beach Resort and Spa; we take great joy in knowing that you accorded us a chance to host you and that your stay with us was most pleasant.

How lovely it is to hear that you enjoyed our facilities and our services. It warms our hearts that you share such positive compliments about our staff.

We appreciate your comments on our food; our breakfast and buffet selections offered at our main restaurant; Horizon restaurant. Our different food outlets within the resort offer a la carte menu options and specialize in delicacies that range from seafood, pizza and pasta, stir fries and desserts served at the comfort of our guests; by the beach side or in the privacy of their room.

Our signature restaurant; The Chui Grill is a member of Chaines des Rotisseurs, specializing in fresh seafood and grills. Our outdoor barbeque dinner venues give our guests the perfect blend of culinary delight in the midst of great scenery. These combined; engage our guests on a joyous culinary safari much to their unforgettable delight.

We have taken note of your comments and suggestions regarding children activities and we shall look into the options available to us.

We appreciate your valued feedback as it is a tool that we constantly use to monitor and evaluate the quality of products and services in order to meet and surpass our guests’ expectations.

We hope to see you in April for yet another great holiday experience.

Kind Regards,
Chui Team

frankly, i am not a fan of this resort. not because it isn't good in any way, its just a subjective preference. you know, i'm all for nature and leaves and shrubbery, but fighting off monkeys on the way to my room and running into black cats in the night randomly on a paved sidewalk just leaves you hoping that nothing more dramatic like a bush spider or snake pops out at you at some point. way too dramatic if you ask me.

its clearly a well-thought out resort built on a hillside that extend right down into the beach but its quite a walk from the rooms to any part of the resort. service levels are rather poor, it takes forever to get room service delivered and the food is kinda bland. plus, on check out, i almost missed my bus cos i was waiting for a porter to come help me with my bags to the reception! needless to say, i eventually moved all three heavy bags by myself in the hot kenya morning sun. clearly i'm still bitter about that :)...although they apologized profusely.

and then there's the monkeys. trust me when i say to you that monkeys are better off on TV...in real life they are a living menace. they're such a nuisance that the hotel has signs warning you against feeding the monkeys, however they don't tell you that even carrying food and minding your business will provoke an attack by these monkeys who are everywhere!!! i saw them attack a male caucasian man and it was not a pretty sight. someone else left balcony doors open and came out of the bathroom to find monkeys eating out her fruit basket right in her room!!! like seriously?!! i swear its like living in the wild but with cable tv. :)

to make it worse, there was only paid wifi and even that wasn't excellent, the scenery does not have on-the-water rock formations and their beachboys are a lot more in your face although the women selling scarves on the beach are delightful. getting there by road from mombasa is quite a drive and you go through amazing plantations and a drive-on ferry that is quite the experience (especially at closing time with all those beautiful kenyan people!) so yeah, overall, just a nice place to spend the night or a few nights but don't expect to be blown away or anything. i would only go back there if i honestly cannot help it, but thats not to say you wont like it yourself!

Room Tip: watch for the thieving, annoying monkeys :)

Dear Oroque,

We are very sorry to hear that our resort was not to your liking. However we do acknowledge that although we do our very best, it is impossible to cater for everyone’s tastes at all times. As reflected by our year-round high occupancy rates, the large majority of our guests (whose origins are as diverse as the colours of our hotel cats – all are welcome!) are often thrilled with our lush tropical gardens bursting with wildlife. Luckily our multicoloured cats keep the snakes away, so you need not worry.

There are indeed signs around the hotel requesting guests to refrain from feeding the monkeys as these are wild animals which have plenty of natural food available to them and feeding them can cause them to become a nuisance. However watching them from a distance and respecting their natural diet and natural role in our beautiful gardens can be a very enjoyable experience. Our resident troop has a number of babies at the moment and it is quite a sight to behold.

While we do charge for the use of internet in our cyber cafe as this is manned by a member of staff who is always readily available to assist, wireless internet is available free of charge in the Kalani coffee lounge for all our guests to enjoy. Additional free connectivity is available in all cottages and suites

Once again, thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts.

Kind Regards.
Chui Team.

There are many choices of accommodations along the coastline of Kenya from Lamu Island all the way down to the southern tip near the border of Tanzania. I thought after exploring a more adventurous schedule of visiting Kenya from Nairobi to Mt. Kenya Safari Club to Masai Mara etc. that a much needed relaxed and beach resort would be helpful and especially before the long flight home. This was definitely the perfect choice and an excellent idea which I highly recommend to all fellow travelers. The Leopard Beach Resort on the south coast that is south of Mombasa was highly recommended to me by a hotel friend and colleague and he was absolutely correct; it is the very best anywhere in this area along the coast line. The lush tropical gardens cascading down a small cliff which is above an absolutely pristine white clean beach. The accommodations are tropical comfort with all of the modern conveniences of in room amenities; there are several dinning options from Buffets to BBQ, Bistros, Pizzeria; a very lovely beach front restaurant and their most upscale Chui Grill which is Chaine des Rotisseurs rated. I highly suggest upgrading and opting for their lovely Chui Cottages; all overlooking the beautiful sea below with oversized rooms and villas; outdoor gardens and terraces just perfectly relaxing and comfortable. The GM Chris Modigell is a perfect Gentlemen/Hotelier and personally looks after his guests; he made us feel very much at home and that is true for the rest of the warm and friendly staff throughout the Resort.

Room Tip: I highly suggest the Chui Cottages; very spacious; great for being private or with families. All wi...

My sister came to visit me here in Kenya for the 2nd time and i wanted to show her something else then the North coast Hotels so we spent 2 nights in Leopard Beach Hotel together with my spouse and family.

The hotel is nice has a beautiful beach and very nice and large swimming pool very nice for small kids as well.

Hotel rooms are clean and big and nicely decorated must have been renovated lately and are taken good care which means that the staff is well trained in cleaning the facilities.

Restaurants and Bars. There are many. All have a great choice of intercontinental & local food some is prepared fresh to your choice and all have friendly staff working there.
Variety and decorations are excellent, taste a joy.

Afternoon tea & coffee is served free of charge near the pool. Bitings are affordable.

Swimming pool. Large, clean and nice for kids too. There is even a life guard on duty. If you prefer a quite place, go and use the some kind smaller pool near the spa and gym, as this is not for people under 16. Which also has a nice jacuzzi and a health/cocktail bar.

Gardens are very nice loads of newly planted and mature trees and flowers all around. Sittings are everywhere which invite you to just have a short break sit down and relax.

Staff: I give you an example. Did you ever sit somewhere in a restaurant or Hotel and a waiter/staff looks at you, you look back to signalize that you ready to order or that you need help and he still does so as he hasn't seen you?
This will not happen in Leopard Beach. Even if they in the biggest hassle you never walk, stand or sit without to be looked after very well.

We cant say much for the Animation or Entertainment as we only stayed 1 night and we went out to visit friends but for sure its amazing for tourists they really make an afford in entertaining you.

We were only able to see the Masai dance, which was pretty much the same as in all the other Hotels and bars where we have seen it but as always its nice to see these boys jump and sing.
There afterwards was a possibility to buy Masai art and jewels, at least there you have time to have a good look on the items and you are not hassled by them to buy anything.

Within the Hotel area is a Spa which has a quite interesting and full menu starting as low as about 5 EUR to use the Gym, Sauna and steam for a whole day, Week and month memberships available as well, to affordable massages starting as low as about 25 EUR by professionals. Full week treatment packages are also available all up to your taste. Best to check there website for this.

All in all i say I WILL COME BACK even if its again just for a day or 2.

Loved this beach resort. Exciting beach holiday with swimming, golf, great food. The service up to great hotel standards. The ambiance of Diani for a holiday fantastic. Their suites impecable and nicely decorated. The climate somewhat hot and uncomfortable but the air conditioning provides a good respite. Can recommend it very highly.
