“Relaxing place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2011

This is a great place to unwind and relax near the beach. There are many local amenities and the staff are always friendly.

The weather was not too great and there was a lot of rain for most part of our holiday.

The breakfast menu was superb and the chef's went out of their way to assist with the children's needs.

Dear PinkHun

Thank you for your review and it was a pleasure hosting you.

We are glad you enjoyed your holiday stay with us and experienced our great hospitality and cuisine too despite the heavy downpour as a result of strong winds that affected the coastline. However, all is back to normal again and the weather is great and sunny.

We hope to see you soon in the near future,

Sincerely,
Chui Management

My family and I have just spent two weeks at this resort and had the most fantastic holiday.
The staff, without exception, were simply wonderful. We had superior rooms sea facing which were large, well furnished and very clean. The food was excellent and service 1st class. The location of this hotel cannot be bettered and the gardens immaculate.Everybody employed work so hard to ensure that the guests have a good time.I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough...I run my own small B&B and thought my customer service was very good...I now however have decided that I need improve after experiencing Leopard Beach customer service and hospitality.

Room Tip: superior rooms

We spent 11 nights at Leopard Beach after a safari in the Masai Mara for our honeymoon. Had an amazing time at Leopard Beach the staff were so friendly and attentive they really did make our holiday. Food was lovely in the Chui Grill I imagine if you weren't A La Carte you may get fed up with the buffet so it was great to have the choice between the restaurants. The resort far exceeded our expectations and really is stunning. The private beach is also amazing but may want to avoid going for walks along here due to the constant harassment from the 'beach boys' - don't worry though they aren't intimidating just very persistent. We stayed in a Chui Cottage and although they aren't massive they are really nice and cosy with beautiful bathrooms which I believe have just been upgraded. I would definitely recommend Leopard Beach for a lovely relaxing holiday.

Dear Ekehheler,

Thank you for your review and we are delighted that you chose to stay with us and more so not only met but exceeded your holiday expectations.

We are grateful for your kind compliments on our a la carte Chui grill - a Chaine des Rotisseurs restaurant which makes a perfect setting for that romantic meal, offering fresh seafood and grills on a teak timbered deck. The Horizon restaurant- which is the main restaurant offers table d'hote venues, themed buffets inclusive of a weekly beach barbeque dinner experience and an African cultural dinner night at the Nyama Choma Boma rotated throughout the week. In addition and true to your observations we also have a choice of different restaurant settings i.e Coco Mchana for stir fries on the beach, pizza at the ocean-view Pizza n'Pasta Tornati or a light meal at the Pool Bistro and Bar.
We hope you enjoyed and experienced the different restaurants too.

The Chui Class Cottages are spacious in comparison to the superior or standard rooms and enjoy a magnificent sea view. Your feedback on the recently renovated bathrooms is appreciated; with the chui class cottages now featuring twin rain showers overlooking own secret garden.

Thank you for recommendations on the hotel and looking forward to welcome you back on the famous Diani Beach!

Sincerely,
Chui Management

We had spent so much time looking forward to our trip. Some friends had visited some years previously and had a lovely time. I took the time to do some thorough research into the hotel in part to make sure we could make the most on a once in a lifetime experience.
From the first moment it began to go wrong;
On arrival we were left for almost 4 hours with no offer of refreshment or option to take breakfast despite having travelled 12 hours and being booked via a well known package holiday.
Once we did access our rooms they were in a poor state of cleanliness with a number of items which needed fixing, in particular the main balcony doors would not lock. We did mention these problems to the hotel management but only some of them were fixed by the time we left.
The key are of concern is the way male guests are treated by this hotel. When my husband attempted to enter the restaurant for dinner in a pair of smart tailored shorts he was turned away. At this time we saw the sign which said 'Guests' are requested to avoid wearing sleevless t-shirts, torn or faded denims, flip-flops or other open toed sandals, shorts and caps. We had not been made aware of the dress code prior to booking and my husband had only one pair of long trousers which we had had to clean on arrival due to a dirty mini-bus transfer. Never the less he was prepared to go and get changed but as we turned to leave we were confronted by a female guest wearing hot-pants, a vest top and flip flops. On further looking around the restaurant it was clear that far from refering to Guests the dictat actually meant 'men'. Even then there were men present (and staff) wearing sleeveless tops and flip-flops with no mention of a dress code being made to them.

We did ask for some indication as to the actual interpretaion of the rules, as a result the management became beligerant and uncooperative with us we were made to feel that we were unreasonable and that the response of 'women are different' should be sufficient.

Over the time we stayed in the hotel we found that while the staff were unfailingly pleasant and helpful Joseph in the breakfast restaurant and Jones in the bar area the management of the hotel were rude and incapable of resolving any issues, the General Manager actually stated to my husband that he 'did not speak to guests'.

Sadly this experience and the overall feeling of being unsafe and treated badly a long way from home completely ruined a holiday we had spent months looking forward to.

Room Tip: I cannot recommend this hotel in any way

Dear Bunty 121

Thank you for your travel review,

We would not want to get into details pertaining to your review. However in hindsight check in time starts from 1200hrs. Upon earlier arrival than this guests are usually informed on this, offered for refreshments-tea/coffee at the Kalani lounge as they await for their rooms. We do apologize if this was not the case, and will improve on our services therein.

Bunty 121 we both know as a matter of fact and realistically speaking what led to you and your friends being evicted from the hotel by the Management which solely has the right of admission, the issue of the hotel dress code was not the main cause. Despite the dress code policy which is also known by all our agents and operators, on our welcome brochures given & briefed to all guests on arrival, displayed on our guest information board and also in our directory of services and adhered to by all guests respectively as indicated. But it was as a result of your intolerable, abusive, threatening language, and violent behavior to our staff, management alike and even extended it to the local tour representative causing disruption in hotel operations and also inconveniencing other guests. Such we have never and will never entertain or tolerate!

We understand your frustration and having to put down the hotel in such a manner. We on the other hand had hoped we could resolve it amicably but that unfortunately did not happen.

We hope you enjoyed destination Kenya as a whole and such will not deter you from visiting this beautiful country.

Sincerely,
Chui Management

I have never written a comment on tripadvisor (although I always check their hotel comments before making a booking) but this hotel is so bad that this time I thought I should write one.
We have been living in Kenya for more than 6 years and often spend a weekend out of Nairobi. Last weekend we decided to go to Diani and based on the comments from tripadvisor chose Leopard Beach resort. We have never been to such terrible place before (please consider that we already know what to expect from Kenyan hotels and are by no means comparing them with European or Asian ones).
Please do not be misled by the “excellent” comments but rather read the “average”, “poor” and “terrible” ones, which most accurately describe the place.

The hotel grounds are very beautiful and the gardens immaculately kept, also the beach is fine (mind the sand flies though).
When you read comments like: “lovely hotel, food terrible” or “great location, rooms poor and even kids wouldn’t eat the food” or “food dreadful”, take it seriously because it is TRUE!
The food is appalling! and definitely spoiled our stay at the coast. The second day our 4 year old child said she wanted to go back home because she couldn’t eat the food. The first night we had Nyama choma night and they were serving “beef”, but I would think they had slaughter a camel instead.
Kenyan beef is even better than the Argentinean and that was definitely not beef, or of extremely low quality.
This hotel tries to cut their expenses in the most ridiculous ways, starting from the quality of the ingredients. For example, Kenya has great fruits to offer, particularly pineapples, mangos and finger bananas. There were no mangos (probably to expensive for this “5 star hotel”) and the pineapples were basically what Delmonte trashes as unacceptable quality: very small and green. There were of course no bananas (probably also too expensive?).
The second day during tea time there was no drinking chocolate and when I asked for it a very unfriendly waitress not even looking at me said “It’s finished….”.

Another highlight of the “5 star restaurant”: dirty table clothes at breakfast (of course dirty from the previous dinner …) and as consequence plenty of flies.

The staff is extremely unfriendly and impolite. They seem to only talk and smile to European customers whom they think would give them a tip, but if you are a resident be prepared: they will not even look at you.
Upon our arrival it took them 4 hours to give us the room, but when we asked to check out HALF HOUR later (so at 11 am instead of 10:30 am), they refused and we had to literally beg for it.

In conclusion, go to another place along the Kenyan coast. There are many other good hotels and probably less expensive.

Dear Susie C,

Thank you for taking your precious time to write back your very first review! In our continued efforts of ensuring guest satisfaction, efficient and effective services we take our guest feedback with alot of interest and keen on details. It is evident you chose the resort based on the high recommendations on trip advisor. True to this fact, our reputation also speaks for itself in regard to our high level of products and services and the high occupancies we enjoy throughout the year; voted for 6 consecutive years as Kenya's best beach resort and Kenya's leading Resort 2010 & 2011by World Travel awards, these are definitely awards of excellence we pride ourselves in and speak volumes of our products/facilities and services therein.

It is not only shocking to read your alleged complaints but also surprising that as a client who is looking for value for money you could continue enjoying your holiday in such a place. We are family hotel and more so during your stay you will agree we also had other children similar to your child's age and even some younger. Having booked through one of our local and highly acclaimed agents who is very conversant, and has thorough knowledge of not only our products, but services and also the variety of cuisine we offer as you might have seen/experienced.

We cater for children's meal and all this information is clearly displayed in our guest room information folders also indicative of the meal times for children's dinner. We have a children's menu in place for dinner orders and also in the outlets the menu's features a children's corner with a variety of child friendly healthy meals/snacks. If and when none of the items is to one's preferred choice, we are always willing to make orders as per the client's needs, which we have executed very well in the past and still continue to do so. Our Executive Chef, F&B Manager, Restaurant Manager, supervisors, hostess inclusive of Duty Manager are always visibly present during meal times to ensure all guests are satisfied and happy with the food and service. At no single time did we get a complaint lodged by you to any of these members.

Having lived in Kenya you will attest to the fact that yes we are a blessed nation with a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables but also take note that these are based on seasons e.g the mango season is mostly from end April to beginning of August. September and October is not a mango season for sure & never have we ever had mangoes available all year round. Pineapples are becoming more in season now for your information. In these cases of seasonality we go an extra mile and compensate with other readily available fruits in the market to even importation of some. You will appreciate and notice that during breakfast time we have fresh fruit carving station ranging from tangerines, oranges, bananas, gold passion, black passion, yellow long bananas, watermelon, sweet melon, pawpaws, apples etc. In addition to this a variety of at least a minimum of 4 freshly squeezed juices among other juices/smoothies. Please be assured that we only provide for the best fruits, good quality-suppleness, juicy, tasty, sweet, in season, readily available and with consistent supply during that time of which that is what most guest including yourself would be happy to have.

We live in a tropical country, surrounded by plenty of flora and fauna. As a hotel we have the responsibility of ensuring that the environment is well taken care a practice we continuously and successfully do. We are grateful for your comments on our tropical gardens. We also enforce and carry out regular pest control measures such as mosquitoes, houseflies, rodents, etc by use of environmentally friendly pesticides/insecticides. We ensure environs are hygienically clean adhere to the FTO standards. Nevertheless you will agree these are only preventive measures and cannot guarantee total elimination of such.

It is shocking to hear of your insinuation of guest discrimination. Susie, this hotel enjoys a lot of domestic market - this is not only local Kenya based but also Regionally in Africa all year round. We have spearheaded marketing campaigns for several years through our own local travel agents who have supported us greatly in our efforts, the tourism bodies/organizations in Kenya, etc and received very high numbers of tourists. All of whom have high compliments of our facilities and hospitality of our staff which has been one of our greatest strengths too.

Our check in time is from 1200hrs and check out time is 1000hrs. Late check out is subject to room availability and these were explained to you on both arrival and advised accordingly on departure.

In any normal situation and for all guests, as much as we cannot guarantee 100% to please all guests, we would have expected if your holiday was to this degree dissatisfying, why would one not contact any of our Duty Manager's, or Senior Manager to report on such. They are always available on duty to address and ascertain any guest problems and take immediate corrective measures and endeavor to ensure a comfortable and memorable holiday. We are taken aback that this was left to this too late, to only come out and write out on trip advisor which is contradicting the very many positive, realistic, and good reviews we receive.

We will be glad to have you back again, and be rest assured that we will be delighted to serve you again in the near future and ensure an enjoyable pleasant stay with us.

Sincerely
Chui Management.

Just retuned from this Hotel. I am very sorry to have to report that despite having a 4/5* rating this hotel failed to meet expectations in many ways. After a long flight we were kept waiting for 3-4 hours for rooms to be prepared. No refreshments offered. Then after the long wait they were still dirty.Very shabby. No towels.Balcony door lock was broken (current political situation a worry). Mosquito mesh on balcony door was torn( Malaria area). Bedside lights did not work. All reported to reception and waited for days to have the problems dealt with. Then not all problems fixed. Staff were very kind and apologetic, but always appeared to be worried by the attitude of the management. Be aware that when dining in the evening there is a very strict dress code for guests which is only enforced to male guests.Ladies you can what you like. This is not advertised in brochures. No shorts or sandals. Even if you have children in your party.Alternative evening dining facilities are very limited. Suffered with severe stomach upset and D&V. I question the source of the infection as the only place I ate was in the hotel. Very belligerent hotel management and difficult to communicate with by their absence when voicing concerns. Moved to an alternative hotel because of poor standards. Will never return.
