“Incredibly beautiful property on a stunning beach”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 21, 2014

We stayed here as part of our honeymoon, and as other reviewers have mentioned, this is a beautiful property where everything is really well thought out and well laid out with great attention to detail for a couples getaway. The sand is fine and powdery white almost like snow, the water is turquoise and clear, and the architecture is distinctly African in the best way. Riccardo and Valentina are very friendly and do a great job of being open to any requests and try to go out of their way to accommodate their guests. Most of the staff here are very warm, kind, and go to great lengths to make you comfortable. The rooms are perfect, and the whole resort is well designed to make it feel like a private getaway even when it is full. There are plenty of different beach chairs and places to sit down when eating to give the experience plenty of variety. It is in fact so easy to be out of the other guests' way that I wished there was more social interaction between the guests. But I realize this can be hard while trying to create a private experience, particularly with the age and cultural variations of their guests. Despite what is mentioned in the other reviews, there are actually plenty of activities that one can take part in, and they provide you the necessary information but do not force anything on you. But if you inquire, you will not run out of interesting things to do for at least 2 weeks. You can take a kayak out to the sandy bar during low tide and explore the surrounding reefs, which, while a bit battered from people casually walking on them during low tide, holds a good variety of marine life. Kitesurfing is also very good and popular here. The food was above average, but nothing to write home about. We are vegetarians, and there was an extensive vegetarian menu but some of the items, although interesting, did not taste great. In the end, we found that sticking to the standard items was a better bet than going for the exotic ones, which hit or miss. The Italian representation is a bit heavy on the menu, and it would be good to see other types of foods (Thai, Greek, etc.). The drinks were not good, although we only tried once so maybe it was an aberration. The place is a bit expensive for what you get compared to similar places I've stayed in (especially the food), but they are a small business with great service, so I think it's worth paying the extra to have what feels like your own private property on a beautiful stretch of Diani Beach.

On short notice we spent a week here in early January and completely loved it. This is a family, designed, built and run resort and you really feel welcome. The rest of the staff (including excellent mangers and director) feel like an extension of that family and nothing seemed too much trouble for them. We spent a good deal of time at the resort (but there was plenty of things we could have done if the beach, pool and service ever got boring!). Although not massive, we never ran out of things to do and then the Indian ocean (which was almost bath hot) was right on the doorstep...

We know where to stay the next time we are on the Kenyan coast

Room Tip: The rooms on the first floors of the villas have a slightly lager (and more private feeling) balcony

We had a very enjoyable stay at Water Lovers resort for a week over the New Year period.

We travel frequently and don't write many tripadvisor reviews but wanted to support Riccardo and Valentina given that we had a wonderful stay at Water Lovers.

What we liked:
- There were lots of different chill out areas in the resort.
- The beach was beautiful, clean and the water was really warm at this time of the year. We have been to Bermuda and Turks & Caicos in the Caribbean and this beach is definitely as good as those.
- The food was good
- Service was genuine and friendly. The Managers arranged for us to attend yoga classes, a snorkelling trip and a dolphin safari - all of which were professionally run. They were also very responsive and helpful when we reached out for help after we lost our camera on the journey back home. Everyone we met at the resort was friendly and helpful. Riccardo and Valentina frequently checked in to make sure we were happy.

Our impression is that Waterlovers is amongst the best hotels in Diani Beach and is the perfect place to go if you are looking for a laid back holiday.

We booked this hotel for our honeymoon. The reason we chose it in the first place was because of the amazing reviews we had read on this website and the fact that there were no negative ones. After spending a night in Mombasa in a crappy hotel and then three days on Safari we were really looking forward to the Waterlovers Resort. I was a bit scared that it doesn’t actually exist but when we got there I was soooo happy. IT IS PERFECT!!!
It was everything we had hoped for and more. The place is not only decorated so neatly and with love to detail but the whole atmosphere is just super relaxed and peaceful.
The resort is rather small with just about 10 rooms which we found perfect because that way there was never a big crowd. It was quiet and we always found a sunbed on the beach =)
We had half board and the food was excellent. I am a vegetarian so I was a little bit worried that I would not have much of a choice but I actually could choose every day from a list of meals and they prepared it EXTRA for me!! It was delicious!
When we saw the pictures on the website we thought that it would be photoshopped a bit to make it look nicer but it actually looks exactly like on the pictures!
The workers are also super nice. They help you with everything, are always super friendly and always have a smile on their faces =)
We could also just take a kayak from the resort to go paddling and snorkeling. Of course they also helped us transport the kayak to and from the beach!
The staff also helped us plan a diving trip we wanted to do with Pili Pipa. They were very helpful and organized everything for us even checking the weather so it would be a perfect day - which it was!
All in all we were SUPER happy with this hotel and our stay there!
If we had more money we would go there every year =)

Room Tip: All the rooms have ocean view so it really doesn't matter!!!

Managed to get some last minute place at Waterlovers. I loved the peaceful setting, small and well thought of design using natural materials and Swahili style. Ideal location and friendly staff. Bed and breakfast very reasonable during the high season. Meals a bit too expensive in comparison to other places but lots of opportunities to eat in restaurants around. They were able to offer everything I needed. It really gave me that holiday feeling. I certainly can recommend it as an ideal place to stay, especially if you don't like those massive places with too many people and noisy entertainments. At Waterlovers you can truly relax and have your privacy.

Room Tip: I think the top floors have better ocean view and less disturbance of people walking in front of you...

Superb resort with friendly staff and helpful. Rooms are nicely built with all natural materials. And the best part is the food which is a mixture of Italian African. Pizzas were not that great. Wifi is free and accessible from almost everywhere in the resort! I would defiantly go back and recommend it!

We,like a lot of visitors, stayed at Waterlovers after a safari in the Masai Mara. The small boutique atmosphere made it a truly wonderful place to stay. We had the large villa which was very spacious and full of character. The attention to detail was second to none with wood carvings throughout the hotel representing Waterlovers. We are not used to be waited on but the staff were so friendly and helpful that they felt more like friends than hotel employees. We had dinner every night on the sand near the bar with candles flickering and the sea lapping in the background. The beach Hawkers were not really a problem and kept us amused while lying on the sunbed over looking the beach. The gymnasts were amazing!! All in all an amazing place to stay. Our best holiday by far as we keep telling all out friends. Thank you very much.
