“An amazing place, with poor food. Really mean it!”
I visited this place a couple of months ago with my Wife, as we were looking for a romantic night out. Ali Barbour's Cave seemed like the right choice, the atmosphere is amazing, as the cave is as authentic as it can get (million years old!!) The candlelight atmosphere worked well for us, despite the fact that we were able to hear every conversation of the neighboring tables. But space is limited, so i wont hold it against them. Service seems professional and we had no mjor problem. The manager (i guess, not sure) actually took our order. Then she vanished. But it was a busy night. Coming to the food....... Our fish carpaccio was still frozen, just placed on the plate, and covered in seasoning. My prawns were ok, not the best, my wife's fish filet was too salty, barely eatable. The dessert was fantastic, Chocolate mouse with orange... AMAZING! Would go back just for that! The bar area is also quite comfortable. Might return in a couple of years, to see if the food improved (or at least the main course)!!
To conclude, i spoke with several people living in Diani, and they all agree its a tourist trap. They dont dine there.
Small tip to the management, your leaflet is translated in four languages, but the content should be the same! The dress code is not specified in all of the translations, so you end up with people in ties dining next to people in shorts and slippers... i guess everyone should have the choice of how to dress...!!
