5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2013

We visited Pylos and decided to stay in Westin.
I believe it was one of the most beautiful experiences we had last years.
Everything was great and truly unique!
Place was amazing and hotel had everything. Here you don't need anything else. there are numerous of things to do in the property and lots of activities for exercise!
We will definitely come back
thank you all!

Room Tip: I believe most rooms are excellent!

As many people have said, this is a remarkable place in terms of the architecture and scenery. The facilities and cleanliness are also top rate.

But the Manager keeps on saying how the prices are in line with other 5*resorts in Europe. Two comments about that:

1. They aren't. The Alfonso XIII in Seville is a higher category hotel than the Westin but you can eat and drink there much cheaper (just €4.20 for a good glass of Spanish house wine compared to €8 at the Westin is just one example). SPG guests in Seville also get assigned the best rooms in each category as well as free wifi throughout their stay. There are no such little nice touches at the Westin.

2. Nobody minds paying high prices if the quality and the service is 5*. At the Westin they simply aren't. A lot of the time the staff give the impression that they don't have a clue what they are doing. It's borderline Fawlty Towers (for those of you who have seen this series)! The food served up at the Taverna for example should be an embarrassment to the hotel.

It would be wonderful if this amazing-looking place could get its act together in all areas. I fear that it may take many years though.

Dear John T,

Thank you for taking the time to share your impressions. Your comments on pricing are noted while you have also noted our position on Food & Beverage pricing. I am saddened to read that none of our associates seem to have provided you with attentive service while visiting our outlets. There is certainly continuous training going on although our genuine aim is that level of service reaches consistency across the board which I have to admit is not an easy task in a seasonal hotel. I remain however confident that the efforts are gradually paying off while we should not assume of course that we have reached a cruising speed. In regards to complimentary WIFI, it is part of the privileges of SPG Platinum members and as an option to SPG Gold members. If this was not provided to you under these conditions, please accept our apologies and we would be pleased to provide you with a credit, kindly contact us directly for that purpose. With best regards, Michel Cottray – Complex General Manager

Once again, Navarino completely impressed us and made us want to come back for even more next year as we always do, In fact, the day after we departed we made our reservations for next August, one year in advance! As we always do, we have recommended the hotel to friends and family who will join us for an ever larger group next year and we cannot wait to come back to this unique, fabulous and truly special world class destination.

While we are very familiar with the entire resort, we had a chance this year to eat at Barbouni for the first time and absolutely LOVED IT! The very best fried Calamari we have ever had anywhere in the world and all of the dishes were outstanding. Additionally, Inbi provided yet another perfect dining experience as did Da Luigi and the other restaurants we ate at.

Special thanks to the assistant reservations manager Yiannis Kostagiannis who personally greeted us upon our arrival and took us to our Infinity Family Suite with the private swimming pool arranged for us. We met Yiannis during our third visit last year when he was the floor concierge and we just loved the extra personal touch of him being there on our arrival this trip. Yiannis is a consummate professional and he greeted us and our children for whom he even remembered their names!! What an outstanding person he is and a tremendous asset to the Navarino team!!!

Our 5 days were spent as they usually are, enjoying all areas of the facility and taking in every moment of it all, with relaxation and the hospitality that makes us come back time and time again! One nice suprise came when we watched a movie in the charming media room next to the Diner, which was a perfect way to start the vacation and something our twin 6 year olds really enjoyed. Then again, the Westin Navarino is PERFECT for children and there is not a thing at this resort that was not well thought of before it was added to the environment.

Thank you to entire staff, but especially, our dear friend Yiannis and his manager, Michael Cottray who although having a challenging job because of the size of the hotel, handles everything masterfully!! We are only sorry that we did not have the opportunity to meet you, Michael, but we will make sure that we do next year when we arrive in early August.

In the meantime, take care of this magnificent property and just keep impressing us like you always do.

For those that have no yet visited this Messinian Paradise, what are you waiting for? I can absolutely assure you that you and your family, will be hooked immediately as we were and that you will have the vacation of a lifetime in your new Messinian home.

Room Tip: Family Suites are large (about 800 square feet) and have more than enough space for everyone.

Dear jbrown2665,

Very grateful for your detailed, impressive and supportive feedback. Yiannis seems again to have provided you and your family with the best of his attention. As for your encouragements toward my own handling of the resort, I of course accept them, with pride! We still haven’t met as yet but I guess that I have no excuse next year! Our many thanks for your superb loyalty and continuous support. With very best regards, Michel Cottray – Complex General Manager.

Although the setting is magnificent, the resort has a major flaw. The buildings are tall and built in a way that there is actually no view of the sea from anywhere. You can't see the sea from the pools, or from the restaurants. Another major issue with the hotel is prices. Everything seems to cost more than it should (meals, coffee, sun screen, water cost exorbitant amounts). Although breakfast buffet is plentiful in selection and quantity, the number of tables and chairs is limited creating a situation of congestion. Otherwise it is a typical resort with many pools and fantastic activities for the kids (they'll go crazy in the slides). The staff is polite, the food is good, safety is high, the area surrounding the hotel is super with an unlimited selection of villages, traditional restaurants, sublime beaches, ancient ruins, and places to visit.

Dear Thanos S,
Thank you for your post on TripAdvisor and your kind words about our staff. I was rather surprised by your comments regarding the architecture; we have been time and time again greatly appraised for our unique structure and perfect adjustment to the local environment. I regret that you found our services too pricey, I have commented on this subject in previous reviews. I hope that you will afford us another visit in the near future. With Best Regards,

The Westin Costa Navarino is a beautiful resort, well laid out and organised. Beach is really nice, clean clear water and good staff looking after you. The kids club was fantastic, although it is a shame that they charge guests to use it - in most places it is included as a service of the hotel! One thing to beware of is the restaurant food and prices which are completely outrageous. Pasta was awful, soggy, tasteless and was an average of 20eur per portion. For these prices it should be outstanding. The greek food in the taverna was better, but again hugely overpriced. We left feeling robbed, although the hotel itself was worth the money.

It is almost the 7th time I visit the said resort. What made my stay memorable this time was the excellent and beyond all expectations personalized service and treatment I received by Constantinos From the guest relations desk. His professionalism was noteworthy. Due to my Platinum Spg status and Diamond HHonors I receive in many properties personal attention. However Constantinos managed to prove that he is by far excellent with everything he deals with. He combined those skills that facilitated efficiently not only our request but foreseen our needs which is by far more important. From a repeater guests view he has been a noticeable adding value to the Hotel. It seems that the property has committed to offer unique and high quality services to its guests and that was obvious through Constantinos this year. Keep the standards high! It makes us look forward to our come back. Sincere congratulations to the management team.

Dear Alexcouc,

Your highlighting of the qualities of Constantinos at Guest Relations is most welcome. It is very pleasing to read that Constantinos has provided you with the attention and personalization of your requests while staying with us. I will share with Constantinos of course your feedback as much as with his head of department. Many thanks for your loyalty which is quite amazing in our less than 4 years of operations. Looking forward to your 8th visit sometime soon and with best regards, Michel Cottray - Complex General Manager.

A luxurious and relaxing holiday.
The rooms are excellent with amazing beds. We had a family suite with an extra shower room - great! Many of the rooms have their own pools, so the hotels pools are never too busy. There are DVD players in the rooms, but no DVDs to borrow or rent from the hotel. The choice of pay as you go films was not great and the only channels in English are News channels. The internet is free at the lobby, elsewhere it is expensive and not very good. It was faster (and cheaper) to just use a data roaming package. Vodafone works great over there.

Breakfast is delicious but it is also the only time when you realise the hotel is full. Go before 9.30 for a more pleasant experience.

The staff at Navarino Outdoors (bike rentals), Tennis (Thank you Dora for great lessons for my kids!) and Snorkeling were very nice and helpful. Prices were reasonable. A trip to Voidokillia is a must!(either by bike or by car).

At the SPA and at Surf Salad, the facilities, equipment and the people were all very nice, but the prices were far too high. The Spa is more expensive than a 5 star hotel in London and the kayak rental for 1 one hour (25 euros) is more expensive than a bike for a day (20 euros)...

There are many restaurants and the food is good, but there are not many less expensive or snacks options. You expect to have high prices in a star hotel, but this one was a bit too much. A can of soft drinks costs 4.30 euros anywhere in the resort.. For a special night, try tFlame or the Japanese restaurant.

The beach is excellent. There is still the odd imbecile that tries to reserve a sunbed early, but they must feel pretty stupid after the first day. There are more than enough sunbeds for everyone. The restaurant/bar at the beach is very nice, but again no simple sandwiches, crisps or ice lollies. The only toasted sandwich options was always sold out and so was the luxurious and delicious chocolate ice cream tub .

The kids area is very impressive, but my kids were too old for it. A shame the diner is not open in the evening! It could be a meeting point for teens.

The hotel has some organised activities like group tennis, volleyball, football and fitness, but, except for the fitness, they are not at the best times and not very well promoted. If you have teens you will end up organising private lessons.
