Me, my wife and 3 children (9 years, 6 years and 19 months) stayed in the Planos bay hotel from the 10th -- 24th of May 2013 on an all inclusive basis and really enjoyed our holiday. The hotel is situated about 20 minutes from the airport. Our room (336) was spacious and airy and well decorated, with a kitchenette equipped with microwave, electric hob, sink, fridge and kettle. The twin aspect of the room worked really well for us and was a big plus point to the holiday. The only negative was a lack of English speaking tv channels, But we didn't go on holiday to watch tv....there is also a hair dryer and plenty of electric outlets. Air conditioning is FREE for all inclusive guests.
The dining facilities at the Planos are Good, but can be a little cramped at really busy times, on a couple of occasions we actually turned around and returned later. The quality and variety of food is excellent and rotated every 14 days, Breakfast is especially good as they serve English sausages! The restaurant is managed by Wendy who is English and very friendly, she welcomes you and informs on what the daily specials are which was a nice touch. Every couple of days, the Planos hosts a theme night at the water park, We went to the Greek night and BBQ, both were fantastic and highly recommended (free for a/i guests). Pepsi, 7up and fanta are all on tap, along with a local watered down beer that was pleasant enough.
The pools and outdoor facilities at the planos are good, but we found the floor to be extremely slippy when wet, even when wearing shoes. the main pool is 1.4 metres deep and the baby pool is about 0.5 metres deep.
Now for the not so good stuff.....the entertainment! with the exception of the kids club which was really good and very well run by disco Dani, party Paula and Nic Nak , the entertainment was poor and needs sorting, in the 2 weeks we were there we watched 2 decent acts (Deano who was brilliant and the Greek Dancers) everything else was poorly managed. The kids mini disco consisted of the usual German and English novelty songs and kept the kids happy for 30 minutes. The outside bar gets very busy which can result in very long waits for a drink, however the barman Stathis is a legend, very funny and entertaining! The First choice reps were very good, Faye was really helpful and pleasant and is a great ambassador for first choice.
If you fancy a boat trip, dont use the overpriced first choice/thomson excursion, we found a little place just down from the hotel called mamfredas tours which was run by Angela, we opted for the half day trip to the shipwreck and blue caves which cost 22 euros for adults and 15 for children (under 4s free). The trip was brilliant and very well managed
