“Fantastic location and peaceful relaxation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2012

Had a great time in this hotel at the start of June. A glass of bubbles on arrival and a golf cart trip down from the main reception to our room in the 300s (i forget the exact number but it was close to the lift). Fantastic room with lovely view of both the mountains and the sea (had a great thunderstorm the morning of the day after we got there but that cleared up by midday!). Had booked on a half board basis and the food was outstanding. Buffet style but with so much choice and approx 25-33% of the meals rotated to keep you interested, along with theme nights. Beach is a little stony and I wouldn't recommend the beach bar or Vertigo - on arrival we went for lunch at the beach bar but were ignored for about 20 minutes and the food choice is the same as at the main hotel and Vertigo, for an 'a la carte' restaurant didn't quite live up to the premise in my eyes (ie no differing choice of wines, food no better than the excellent main hotel).

That said I cannot find anything else to knock about the hotel. The lift worked fine, the lizards perturbed my partner which provided me an endless source of amusement, the pool, although small, was excellent, we hired 2 hardtail mountain bikes with accessories (Giant via reception) for 3 days for approx £80 to tour around a bit and the biking was excellent. Did a couple of trips - sundowner cruise, Corfu town etc which were good value.

Would go back in an instant...

Room Tip: Get a room close to the lift and closer to the main building for better views...

Just returned from a very relaxing 2 week holiday at the Grand Med. Great staff, lovely surrounding area, very spacious rooms most of which have some sea and mountain view. Lovely choice of food both dinner and breakfast. Great walks around the hotel area. George's beach bar good choice of food and is a lot cheaper than the hotel beach bar.
cons:
Arrived at 10.00 pm and had to wait 30 minutes for a car to take us to our room.
Paid for a sea view which would class as limited but was told by reception that it was sea view.
Beach bins overflowing with rubbish for the full two weeks.
Beach bar closed and beds removed for second week.
With cars flying up and down collecting people for dinner etc, very dangerous if you walk.
Drinks quite expensive 27 euro for a bottle of wine with dinner 4.20 euro for large beer which is about 0.5 pint.
4* at most.
but do feel very relaxed and chilled out.

Room Tip: Don't pay for a sea view, most rooms have them.

Large hotel, felt very 80's "Package Deal". Had a room on level 2. Room 215......Fine, was standard creams and browns......view was good. Hated the walk to the main building....not just the hill and the distance but poorly lit at night and had large toads sitting in the shadows...quite grim!! Mid week we moved to the main building which was much better but same soulless decor.
The evening entertainment also came from the 80's...pub singerish!!!! Only allowed 3 pool towels in one week. You have to get a card stamped for them. No cushions on the sunbeds so very uncomfortable. The pool isn't heated and even after a hot summer and temperatures up to 27 when we were there the water was freezing cold.. Pretty pool area but broken umbrellas and could have done with a daily sweep. It is the little 5 star touches that are really missing.....You become very much another package guest...on the Thomsons conveyor belt of travel...horrid. Dinner was buffet style..we knew this when we booked, not a fan but must say the food was good. The staff were also very friendly in the restaurant and on reception.
I would really recommend renting a car...Corfu Town is lovely and "real" and we drove up to the North East Coast which is also pretty. Car hire was less than half the price if booked online before you go and if you pick up/drop off at the airport you avoid all the queuing on the return,
beating the mass of coaches!!
Hope this review helps.

We've spent one week in Atlantica Grand Mediterraneo Resort & Spa. Beautiful location if you're not looking for crowded center and hundreds of pubs. It's near small bay with couple of good greek tavernas. Hotel is not one big building, but a lot of small houses distributed on the hill with beautiful view. Rent a bike or a car if you want to see something more than a hotel and a bay. Rooms are clean, service nice, I can with pleasure recommend the hotel!

Room Tip: Rooms with private pool are excellent.

hat a great resort, everything about this hotel is first class. On being appointed our room we were disappointed as the view was obscured by trees and no sun on the balcony. A quick phone call to reception and 30 mins later we were appointed a new room along with a courtesy bottle of wine.
That was the only thing we had to complain about during our stay of 2 weeks.
The staff were absolutely terrific always willing to help and great company. We managed to get to know a few members of staff and share a few drinks and laughs.
The food was excellent,a great variety. even the wasps liked it. Rooms were great spacious, clean with nice decor. On the whole I thought that the resort provided good value for money. The location I thought was perfect for the island as you are quite central for visiting both North and South if you wish. I will be returning.

Room Tip: I prefer the rooms closer to the main building and pool area etc.

We stayed here for the first two weeks of September for our honeymoon. It's a Thomson couples hotel so it was lovely that it was adults only, which made it more relaxing.

We stayed in room 210, with a sea view and only one level down from the main part of the hotel so the walk to and from the restaurant, bar and pool wasn't too bad. The room was big, huge bed, large bathroom. Good sized balcony with great views, table and chairs and a small clothes drying rail, which was very useful for drying towels/swimming costumes etc. Air conditioning was very effective, there was a fridge in the room (although I would recommend leaving one of the two room cards in the slot in the room which provides the electricity, otherwise the fridge doesn't keep cold as there's no power to it when you're out of the room). There was also a corkscrew in the room and if you walk to the local wine estate (about 45 mins walk from hotel each way) then you can pick up some really nice wine (white- 5 Euros, red-10 Euros) and enjoy it on your balcony without having to pay the room service price. Bring your own tea/coffee though as there's a kettle in the room but no complimentary teabags etc (though the shops isn't far).

Pool area- great views and lots of sunbeds, there was the usual one or two that was reserved from first thing but overall we found that there was no problem getting a sunbed at about 10. Leave it until much later though, and you could be stuck. That's similar to the situation on the beach but you had until about 11am to get a sunbed there.

Drinks- quite expensive but then we were expecting that and it's no more than you'd pay in London and there's a local minimarket at the entrance to the hotel where you can pick up drinks and keep it in your hotel room fridge.

Evening entertainment at the hotel was good- normally the mere mention of hotel entertainment makes me cringe but I was pleasantly surprised with it.

Food- absolutely fantastic. Huge choice of food, which was varied every night. We stayed for 2 weeks and there wasn't noticeable repetition at dinner. Very large salad bar choice, breads, cold greek salad dishes, soup, hot buffet with several choices of meat, vegetables, fish, pasta and vegetarian options. Amazing selection of desserts as well.

It was very clean throughout and the whole hotel was spotless. The hotel is very modern.

Cable car was fine. It's not the fastest and once it seemed to ignore our stop, even though we pressed the button(!) so make sure you press the button properly. The only time it didn't work was on the last day when it became very windy.

The only gripe we had with the room (and it's only minor) was that although we locked our door from the inside when we wanted a lie in, the maid's key seemed to override that lock and the 'do not disturb' signs often fell off the door handle outside so one or two mornings we were disturbed by the maid. I mentioned to Thomson that I didn't see much point in having a lock on the inside if it can be overriden by the staff!

The other issue that people have mentioned on other reviews were the wasps. There were a lot of them and when you sat down by the pool/beach then a few wasps would come over and 'sniff' you out but then they seemed to realise you weren't fruit and head off elsewhere. I absolutely hate wasps so I was a little concerned before I went but I was amazed at how quick I got used to them and managed to not be bothered by them and even forget they were there sometimes. The time they really were annoying was when you wanted to have a meal outside in the daytime. We tended not to eat lunch (the buffet breakfast kept us going until dinner) but the one time we did at the beach restaurant, the plate was quickly covered in wasps BUT, the hotel staff quickly put a little dish of greek coffee on the table which was lit so that the burning smell of the coffee seems to send the wasps away. Also it meant no one at breakfast outside but dinner was fine if you didn't eat before sunset (about 8ish when we were there). I should say that I can't see that it's the hotel's fault that there are lots of wasps as I didn't see any wasps nests. The hotel is surrounded by woodland and olive trees etc so I can't see there's much that can be done about them.

There's not much else in Ermones except for the independent minimarket and bar at the entrance to the hotel and the couple of tavernas on the beach. We went to Corfu Town several days as it was very easy to get to. The bus (more like a coach) cost 2.20 Euros one way per person and took about half an hour. It picks up and drops off right outside the hotel reception so it was ideal.

Overall, I'd really recommend this hotel. We had a lovely relaxing holiday with great food, drink and views.

This was our first couples holiday with Thomson so we went with an open mind not sure what to expect. Our plan was to relax and chill out as we only had a week and had planned only to go out on two excursions, thus, spending the rest of the time at the hotel. Not comparing 5 star Greek standards to 5 stars UK.
We were looking at the service and how we were looked after overall. On arrival we were given a glass of champagne as we waited for our room to be assigned to us. Our first impression was the hotel was clean and the staff were helpful. Our room was located on level 2 (209). We were taken to our room by a golf buggy, on entering the room we were very please with what we saw. Clean and simple the bathroom was well laid out with a walk in shower, the bed was king-size. We then went out onto our balcony what can we say, a picture post card over looking the beach with the mountains opposites us. Looking to the right we could see the beach and the open sea, the view was fantastic. This was our anniversary week so we had pre booked the Italian restaurant for Thursday. However, we found that they had left for us a bottle of red wine chilled water bowl of fresh fruit and canapés, this was a nice touch.
We like to keep things simple so here is a list of pluses and minus
 Room: Plus – the room was nice and simple and well laid out and storage was very good. Minus – the TV was tuned in but you got a poor reception from the English channels.
 Beach: Plus – the hotel had a restaurant on the beach were you could dine and you could pay on your room number. Opposite there are two taverna’s, George’s was the best for us. Minus – the beach is pebble with course sand so you need sea/beach shoes (you can buy in the hotel shop).
 Food: Plus – very well presented and a good choice. We sat at a number of different tables and we found the best was around the pool under the canapé. The Italian restaurant is the place to dine for special occasions. Minus – We found none.
 Service/Staff: Plus - We found the staff to be helpful and friendly and the majority could speak English. When arriving at the restaurant you were met and greeted, they all had time for you. Minus - We found none
 Thomson staff: Emma the main coordinator prepared an introduction package for us which was extremely helpful. She organised our excursions and booked the restaurant reservations. Laura the entertainments coordinator was bright and cheerful. We joined in the events and had great fun.
 Entertainment: it was spot on. This was set just right remembering that this is a couples holiday were couples are here to relax and not jump up and down and go head banging etc. The entertainment was varied with local acts as well as the Thomson duo (Paula and Mark). Paula and Mark were very professional covering a large portfolio of songs/music from disco, soul, classic and pop. We liked the combination of flute, clarinet and guitar. We found one of the best sessions was when they covered the rat pack.

Summary: We would recommend this hotel for a short stay. A lot of reports complained about the lift and wasps but they were no problem to us. We had a relaxing time, we enjoyed the hotel facilities and have come home with lots of great memories.

Room Tip: recomend level 2
