“Nice place to stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 24, 2013

Stayed here for two nights and really enjoyed it. The spa has a good gym and nice pool, the golf course is quite basic but scenery is nice. Didn't dine here, went to two lovely country pubs close by. Ideally situated to visit York and harrogate. Would definitely visit again.

Booked a two day stay including two rounds of golf. The golf course is superb with a varied course and challenging holes. I would thoroughly recommend the course to anyone.
The hotel is also nice with a health spa attached, food was great.
The only exception was the service in the restaurant which was poor at dinner time, it took 50 minutes to get the starter and 30 minutes for the main course. They said that they were busy, but you would know how many had booked in advance to eat, so should have got the staff in.
Never mind the golf made up for it and we would return to play there.

This was a beautiful stay... We attended as a family - my husband, our little 2 year old boy and myself...
Rooms - immaculate... The rooms were stunning, so spacious and wonderfully dressed/equipped... I honestly couldn't fault the rooms these were extremely pleasant...
Location : perfect.. So peaceful and countryside views... The grounds are stunning and so well managed... Nothing really for little ones to specifically do however lovely for family time and walking around with nature all
Around...
Spa - welcomes everyone... My little boy was made to feel very comfortable and there was even a young child receiving a swimming lesson which I can relate to as we attend a similar type hotel at home due to the warm temperature of the pool... Pool lovely not massive but big enough... Sauna and Jacuzzi are what they say on the tin! Very relaxing break and clean... Changing rooms again what they are suppose to be...
Food - we had a breakfast here and there really is nothing to complain about - something for everyone! All brand name cereals, fresh fruit juices honestly again nothing to complain about.
Staff - friendly nothing special but never really got to know any so find it hard to comment on this!
Enjoy your break it really is such a relaxing enjoyable break.

We've stayed here many times and always had great service and a great time, in fact I proposed to my girlfriend here in March so that is an indication of how fond I am of this place.

We actually had it at the top of our preferred wedding venue list, but the service we experienced from the people who manage weddings here was not up to par with the experiences we have had. We struggled to get any response from the people here despite several emails and phone calls, leaving many messages and asking to be called back. When we did receive calls or emails back our quests were either not fully answered or the answers seemed to indicate that they were not really bothered about us or interested in helping us to make this day special.

Other venues we have been in touch with have been far more professional and are now working with us to make this event great. It is a real shame as I would have loved to have had this as our venue, but for a special event to be special, it has to be planned with people who care.

...still....as I say, a great place for a night away. I will stay here again, but will never hold any special event here, as the people who arrange these don't seem to care.

One last thing.. Bring back the breakfast buffet, it was much better than being served a plate of food as you could pick and choose what to have and how much...

This is a lovely Hotel set in superb countryside but not too far from York. The golf course is very well maintained , level, with some interesting holes. Our room was special and very spacious. We were on a dinner, bed and breakfast and golf package Our allowance for dinner was £26, but as many main courses were over £20 a 3 course meal was not an option unless you paid extra. even with soup, bread was not available unless you paid £3 - 50 extra. In my opinion these little niggles spoiled what would otherwise have been a fantastic break and feel they should be addressed by the hotel.

Room Tip: rooms in the 'old' part of the hotel are more spacious.

We booked the romance package for a night away from home, having read some of the reviews on here I was a bit concerned. I have to say we had an excellent stay the room (a feature room) was lovely, it was spotlessly clean and well kept the bed was 2 twins together with a mattress topper so was a very big bed and a lot bigger then the double that it said was in the room with a great view of the golf course and a lovely clean bathroom. I have to say it would be worth the upgrade the room also had a small sofa coffee table and chairs as well as desk tv cabinet with complimentary fridge and bath robes.
we took advantage of using the swimming pool and sauna but unfortunately the Jacuzzi was out of action I'm assuming its because the boiler in the spa was getting changed the next day and so they would have no hot water till the new one was fitted.t The changing rooms were clean and tidy and staff friendly we used it at about 4pm on a Wednesday so wasn't very busy.

The restaurant was very modern in design and the food was amazing everything was fresh and homemade and tasted delicious worth every penny extra we paid over the £26 that is allocated as part of our package.
The staff were all friendly and helpfully food came quick and plates were cleared quickly breakfast was lovely and looked fresh they changed several dishes while we were eating so every thing was hot and not dry like some breakfast buffets can get.

Cannot recommend this hotel enough for a short break whether you want golf, a spa break or just a romantic break with your partner. Lovely quiet location in middle of beautiful Yorkshire countryside but close enough to York and other tourist attractions (in car). Lovely old manor house brought up to date with much thought and care. Staff couldn't do enough for us and meals in hotel restaurant were awesome. If I have only one tiny complaint it is that the hot water in the bathrooms it overly hot and would be a concern if you had young children.

Room Tip: We had double room on second floor, good size with large en-suite. Have some suites I believe that...
