“Really friendly staff, NOT worth the money!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 22, 2011

On arrival the hotel seemed lovely, our room was nice! The first night we went for dinner in the restaurant menu was good, food was fairly standard. Breakfast was just warm good selection of pastries fruit and cereal. Bed wasn't the comfiest. Next morning we left our room and there was a cleaner running along corridor with a dirty pair of knickers that she had found in a room showing other staff, very unprofessional not something you wish to see before lunch. Second night in restaurant my partner ordered a side of vegetables which had a small insect in it couldn't fly so guessing it came from kitchen. On our last morning we had treatments in the spa excellent service and staff very nice best part of staying in the hotel. Lovely pool sauna and steam room. Overall the prices are over rated for the quality of the hotel, staff are very friendly and tried to help but no one really seemed to know what was happening where and when in the hotel.

Room Tip: Not the junior suite!

Many thanks for taking the time to write a review of Aldwark Manor. It was great to hear you enjoyed your Room the Food and Spa experience. I feel we offer great value for money however despite your positive feedback I am very sorry to hear you didn’t feel this was the case. All your points are valued and I will ensure that we act upon all of them to improve the product moving forward.

Stayed here with our elderly parents one of whom is disabled. It was vital that we found a hotel that could cater for their needs, and this hotel did exactly that. The disabled rooms had excellent facilities. The beds were extremely comfortable . The staff were without exception very helpful and welcoming. The food was very nice, not exceptional, but value for money. There is plenty to do in this area and this hotel makes a good base.

We stayed for 3 nights, had a lovely 4 poster room in the main building, word of warning though is that being in the main house we could hear the music from the squadron bar at night as the speakers are near the ceiling and our room (201) was affected although not being directly above. Housekeeping was a bit hit and miss, my beer glass was just turned upside down without being washed, the white wine was missing from the mini bar and the used teaspoons were left for the whole 3 days. Breakfast was disappointing for 2 mornings as the hotel was busy on the Fri and Sat nights so we had to wait for more bacon and mushrooms, ask for more butter etc. would have been good to be told when sitting down that more food would be along rather than have to go and ask. What did sour the experience at the end was that although we paid up front due to booking the day before, we were still asked for £10 outstanding bill when we checked out, after explaining that we had paid already on booking the amount was waived but I cannot understand why we were asked for it, the receptionist would surely have seen that we had paid upfront - would we really pay all of it less £10. Shame as that is our lasting memory of what is a lovely hotel

Room Tip: Main house for luxury but beware noise from bars

Your review has been of great use to me and I must thank you for posting it. It is the little things noted by our guests that make it possible to improve the product moving forward. The guest journey is of great importance to me and the new management as its is the small things we are really focusing on. My thanks once again.

We stayed here for 4 nights and booked the dueplex suite which was a lovely room with a large deck area to sit outside. Once we checked in and got our key "key" yep no nice swipe cards big keys on big keyrings" we went to our room which was great. There was no iron or board in the room so i asked for one to be brought up, after 3 more calls and 10mins till i needed to go to dinner it arrived.

We went for dinner which we were told we should book as it gets busy, hmmmm 3 tables full including us but hey ho. The food here is amazing good size portions and great food worth every penny. The restaurant has a dress code of no t-shirts shorts or trainers which is good, but then when you see people sitting in trainers eating thats a little anoying.

We went for a walk after dinner and headed out the end exit near the church....beautiful little church but be warned at night there is a farm on the right side as you come out the complex with the most aggressive dog ive met. It is not locked in the farm and can easily get out to you. My wife does not like dogs and im always telling her she is being silly but this thing scared me too, just be careful.

We used the leisure facilities which were great. Now we had a room that was £189 a night which included free bottled water and other items which house keeping seemed to forget to put new ones in our room every day as im guessing they thought they could get away with it oh no.

We had a very relaxing time here and i would recommend it to other people, the items i mention above are minor problems and would not stop me from visiting again.

Could nit pick about a dozen or so problems, but will stick to basics. food was dreadful (maybe because it was a monday) staff all very nice but so poorly trained (sack their mentor) general untidyness etc etc. Have stayed at several other Q hotels, first time dissapointed.
Nice location, great beds

Thank you for taking the time to post a review of Aldwark Manor. I am very sorry that you have left the hotel with a negative view.
I can assure you that your experience in the hotel is not normal practise or reflective of the service we normally provide. As you can see from the Trip Advisor posts for the last 4 months we have invested in our people heavily. I will look again at the training that is provided to my Heads of department, and welcome your comments in the area.
We have also recently received an award for the food product at the hotel and so it was very disappointing to read you did not enjoy your meal.

I would like to discuss your points in further detail and have contacted you directly for this purpose.

Kind Regards,

Steven Hodgkinson

We stayed at the hotel for 2 nights and had our wedding there. We had 16 close family and friends stay with us, and everyone was impressed with our choice of venue. The rooms were great, we had upgraded to a junior suite which was unusual, but good for having people coming in and out the morning of the wedding as it was on two levels. The other rooms our family stayed in were all different and all lovely. The food was amazing for the wedding breakfast, and breakfasts both days couldn't be faulted. The grounds are gorgeous and the nearby villages are lovely for a little walk around. The men had 3 rounds of golf and loved the course, and all women were pleased with their spa treatments and the facilities are great. I liked the fact the pool didn't have a strong chlorine smell, very off putting in lots of other hotels. The staff at Aldwark are great, they showed genuine interest in us and were so helpful, a lot better than I had expected. We can't wait to return, we said for our first anniversary, but the family all want to come back sooner! Thanks for helping making our special day so great!
