“Lough Derg House Excellence”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2013

We spent two glorious weeks as part of the SA sailing team at Lough Derg House to participate in the Mirror Worlds Championships late July 2013. Our frantic schedule didnt allow much time but Declan and Fiona Collison (our wonderful hosts) were superb. From the moment we arrived we were accommodated in every way. Their attentiveness to their guests needs cannot be overtstated and we immediately felt welcome in their family... The B&B option is perfect as the rooms are comfortably equipped and the location to the water cannot be beaten!!!
Also the breakfasts are delicious, efficient and very well priced - Declans coffee is a must!!!

If not staying over do visit the Cafe as they offer Fiona's home baked desserts and also her freshly baked bread which quickly became a team favourite....

Our SA sailing team was blown away by their dedication and commitment and we were treated like royalty....
The WELCOME team South Africa banner was a beautiful and thoughtful gesture .....
Thank You for a wonderful visit Declan and Fiona

We were a cycling team taking part in an event near Dromineer. Our group were weary upon arrival in Lough derg House but Declan's friendliness and enthusiasm gave us the lift we needed.
The hosts were very flexible and attentive to our needs.
The facilities for a group involved in outdoor pursuits are excellent including a drying room and a lock up for bikes etc.
The surroundings and views are impressive.
We'll be back.

We were there at Easter for a regatta held in the local yacht club. The location could not have been better, the welcome could not have been more sincere and the service and factilities were perfect for our needs.

Declan and Fiona went out of their way to be as helpful to all of the guests (we did a large block-booking). The excellent breakfast (with very good coffee) was served promptly as was need for the event. They also obliged us by preparing dinners in the evening which was tasty and very good value.

During our stay we also had lunch and teas and coffees from to time. The lunch menu was varied and nice and the home made cakes and biscuits delicious.

The rooms are basic enough but more than sufficient for a sailing event particularly with young sailors.

Highly recommended for anybody doing a sailing event at Lough Derg Yacht Club! There was even a room for airing wet sailing clothes.

We went here by invitation of the Inland Waterways Association Ireland (IWAI) .
All facilities available for you & your boat. Public Moorings outside, on Lough Derg.
Not for the faint-hearted, you need to be an experienced boater as weather & water changes quickly. Plenty of room available for trailers. Nearby Shannon Sailing Marina - Dennis Dillon (+353(0)67 24499 - very helpful. Excellent Concrete Slipway.
Declan & Family provide excellent food & en suite rooms very clean & comfortable.Very friendly atmosphere & beautiful views of the Lough . Pub walking distance.

Attending a local wedding with no knowledge of the Nenagh area, I arrived at Lough Derg House a little flustered! The proprietor Declan, welcomed me warmly with an offer of tea and showed me to my very comfortable, simply furnished en- suite family room.

Breakfast the next morning was freshly cooked and featured an extensive and reasonably priced menu. The 'Cafe' also offers delicious home baking. I can recommend the coffee walnut cake and steaming fresh coffee. If not sailing or enjoying Lough Derg for other water sports, there are lovely walks around this 30 mile long lake!
Lough Derg House is an experience I highly recommend!

Beautiful location. Declan and Fiona were excellent hosts. Affordable, and a very enjoyable stay. Owner is a carachter. Biggest swimming pool I have ever seen - Lough Derg! Have a few beers in the local pub, and sleep well in Lough Derg House. Beautiful views first thing in the morning. Will be back.

We chose this B&B because it was right on Lough Derg and we planned on renting a sailboat from the nearby marina. Declan is the most excellent host of this house and did everything possible to make us feel at home. The accommodations are simple yet comfortable, and very environmentally conscious. It is right on the waterfront, near the marina. The ruins of an old castle are right next door, and there is a neat little restored cottage with a thatched roof.

Declan also runs the Lake Front Cafe downstairs. This is where you get your breakfast if you're a B&B client, but they serve breakfast and lunch to all comers. Tasty food, and very good coffee.

For dinner and drinks, you can't go wrong with the pub just up the street called "The Whiskey Still". Excellent food, pleasant staff, and friendly locals.
